Interesting that you're calling NCC @ WC as the only game out of the four that won't be a tight one. As I said back when these two teams faced each other in the first round-robin (a one-point North Central win that I witnessed in the airplane hangar), Bill Harris has found a genuine nemesis in Todd Raridon. The Cardinals have beaten the Sonic Atmospheric Disturbance the last five times that the two teams have hooked up.

Should be interesting.  I think that Kent Raymond has one of those 34 point nights tonight, and that its close for about 25 min until Wheaton pulls away.  But who knows, you may be on to something Greg.   :)  Truth is for as wacky as this year has been I may just go 0-4 and all the road teams go out and win!!   ???  Which by the way would make the standings look like this:

Augie/Carthage 6-2; Wheaton/Elmhurst/IWU 4-4; NPU/NCC 3-5; Millikin 2-6   Wouldnt that be something

well, as greg saw, if the Thunder don't play better defense in the paint tonight they will bo 0-6 vs NCC. Last time NCC shot 60% which you can really only do if you are scoring on mostly layups. Rogers went for 30 and the Thunder were never really close to winning that game. Jacob Carwell has been stepping up the last 2.5 games with better defense and production. He will be a key to a Thunder win at home tonight.

Least we forget, in the first round WC-NCC contest, the Cardinals played only their 6th game of the season with their regular starting line-up. They won them all. Chris Drennan had missed the previous 7 games with a surgically repaired right hand fracture. During those 7 games, the Cardinals were victorious only once. He returned for the Wheaton game in which he scored 23 points to help the Cards defeat then then 12th ranked (I believe) Thunder. They had prev defeated 13th ranked Aurora U. However, in that 1st Wheaton game, Jeremy Williams was lost with a knee injury, and hasn't played since. During that time. the Cards are 1-4.

In the last two games, playing without Williams, and with Matt Rogers playing sick in the last game, NCC has lost by 10 to the pre-season conference favorite Augie who was playing at home, and by 6 in OT to Elmhurst who was picked to finish 2nd.
I know injury/illness are no excuse, and none of the other teams are going to be sending any sympathy the Cards way. What I AM saying, and what will probably draw hoots and howls all around, is that I believe if the Cardinals could have played each game so far with Drennan, Rogers, and Williams, they'd be no worse than 14-4 right now, including the fact that they might very well be undefeated or possibly 6-1 in conference play. I acknowledge Augie has lost a star in Delp, and he is a superior enough player that he could have made a difference had he been available.

I'm not stating this as an absolute fact but, before you label this post as lunacy and zing the hell out of me, ask yourself this--If the Cards could beat the 13th and 12th ranked teams in the country with their "regular" line-up, why couldn't they beat anyone else they played? With a core of Drennan, Rogers, and Williams, supported especially by Raridon, King, Barringer, Prince, and Twyman playing as well as they have, I don't honestly think the above mentioned record would have been unattainable.

I realize this is the real world in which injuries have certainly occurred. Also, as I stated, I don't expect any tears to be shed for the Cardinals. As a fan, and as any good fan of any of our teams would feel, its a damn shame NCC has suffered the injuries they have. It would have been fun to see what the results would have been. Two things are for sure though--first, take the Cards lightly due to their record or injuries, and you could well be asking for trouble, and second, in light of the misfortune they've experienced, the coaches and players have done a heck of a nice job of battling and exhibiting a never give up attitude.

So Delp could have made a difference, but NCC's injured players definitely would have made a difference?

Spoken like a gentleman definitively looking for the confrontational side of the issue, knaroky.

I acknowledged him as a "superior" player. I used the word "could" due solely to the fact that I have only seen him play a few times against NCC, and I am not as familiar with him as I am with the North Central players who I see on a fairly constant basis throughout both the summer league and several times a week during regular season practice.

Listening on the radio it seemed that "The Voice" was not happy with the officiating, can anyone say something on this?

The Titans made big shots when they had to and you have to give them credit.

Besides the loss, it was a fun game to listen to and hopefully Carthage can come back and beat Wheaton on Wednesday.

Career game by Captain Darius Gant 22 Points 20 Rebounds  ::) :o to lead the Titans to a win at home over the Red Men.  IWU outrebounded Carthage 48 to 28 tonight but were only 8-24 (33%) 3-Pt and 15-24 (62.5%) FT yet made their free throws at the end to seperate from Carthage.

IWU had no real answer for Steve D 28 points on 10-24 shooting.  Thankfully, Steve D had only 9 attempts from the charity stripe making 8 of them.  Nice game by Trey Bowens too who finished with 17 points.

Redmen, it seemed that way.  But I would rather not get into a refereeing argument on the board.  The Titans made big plays down the stretch.

There was one comment that I was looking for some opinions on from John Weiser:

"Sean Dwyer is out there playing like this is a football game.  Somebody needs to sit him down and tell him there is a difference between playing hard/physical and playing dirty, and he seems to be borderline."

Just wondering what Q or others there thought about that comment.
