A nice win for the North Central Cardinals over the Millikin Big Blue Sat. night in Decatur
in a game that didn't seem even as close at the final 13 point margin of victory.
The Cards evidently had their radar finely tuned as they hit on 54% of their shots, including a sizzling 66.7% from 3 point land from where Mitch Raridon and Reid Barringer both drained 3 of 4 attempts. Barringer led the scoring brigade with 22, and was well supported by Matt Rogers who hit for 18 off the bench, and by fellow starters Chris Drennan with a double-double of 14 & 10, the aforementioned Raridon with 12, and by the rapidly developing David Twyman with 11. Dominique King played a fine all around game with 9 points, 4 rebounds, and a team high 6 assists. The Cards also hit 24 of 29
charity tosses, or 82.8%

NCC is 2nd in conference FT shooting percentage. Putting them on the line is usually asking for trouble. To that end, I'd like to see them continue to exploit their strong inside game while at the same time seeing the perimeter players more often look to go the the basket.

Hopefully the Cards will use this victory to build momentum going into the next two games at home vs North Park and Carthage, both of whom were winners over NCC in the first round of conference play.

As a sidebar to the Millikin broadcast of their game against North Central Sat night, it was strange to hear the Millikin broadcasters continually refer to the Cards Mitch Raridon as Mitch CARE-E-TEN.   :D   :(   ::)

Greg said, "Nobody seemed to know what play to run or what to do with the ball."  In my humble opinion, I offer these harsh words.  "Nobody" includes the coaching staff.  King Dennis and I have repeatedly stated that four guys hanging around the trey line does not represent a true offense.  Run a play, get some motion.  I don't see these directives coming from the bench.

Amen and Amen - Preach it brother !!!

"Joe Capalbo's old spot in the rotation"

What happened to Joe?  Here's arguably the best shooter on the team and North Park seems to not be able to run any plays or set solid enough screens to get him open.  It would be a shame, but understandable if he left, his time on the floor has become wasted because no one sets him up for a shot.

It's all one on one (two or three), head down and drive for the basket and throw up some kind of off-balance layup.  That's not team basketball - that's street-ball.

There's no secret why North Park continues to lose so many close games - they haven't been taught what it takes to win close games down the stretch.

DoS

Joe's still here, he was dressed on the bench Saturday, he just hasn't been shooting well.

I also listened to portions of the Wheaton broadcast of their game against NPU on Sat evening. I was interested in what the Wheaton broadcasters would say about the behavior of the "Crazies" from North Park.

The highlights of that portion of the broadcast occurred when the Wheaton crew indicated that:

1. The Crazies "can get away with any kind of behavior tonight and they won't get kicked out." It sounded like they took great pride in that being the treatment several NPU supporters got during their earlier visit to King Arena.
2. Complained that several of the NPU supporters were "scantily" attired. SHOCKING!
3. Indicated that they had observed one of the Park students "dressed ONLY in a towel" and then tried describing the implication of such attire. Makes you wonder just HOW close a look they took at that student!!!   ???    ::)    :o

Oh well---Perhaps Crusaders WAS a more fitting moniker for the Wheaton teams. Their broadcasters are still doing it!

Of course, after all what's better than a good dose of complete silence on a Saturday night in February? ;D

Just adds to my pride in the crowd that showed up Saturday!  More than a little telling about Wheaton...

I love it.  What two guys say on the radio translates to what all Wheaton alum think.  Gimme a break!

Honestly I love the passion shown by NPU students and frankly I wish most Wheaton fans would show the same level of enthusiam.  The Wheaton swim team has always been a rabid group of fans during the football season.

I think the best group of fans I have seen recently is the Wabash football fans.  Their tenacious fandom made a significant impact on the momentum of a football scrimmage.  One non-descript sack on 2nd down... their fans went nuts with synchronized chants and the players fed off it.  It wasn't even a real game!

But to simple state that what two guys at a collegiate radio station say is "more than a little telling about Wheaton..." is ridiculous.  I certainly don't subscribe the concept that the WETN sports broadcasters speak for me.

Mugsy--

I don't think thats what I said at all. I specifically said "their broadcasters" meaning the broadcasters were using the airwaves to "crusade" for their vision of acceptable fan dress and behavior. I would rather have had them stick to a description of the game action. I will admit that something told me that there was a distinct likelihood that there would be some comments about the crowd in light of what previously transpired at King Arena.
Its rather foolhardy to lump all members of any group together as having the same mindset on all matters. I'm sure there are differing opinions within groups associated with Wheaton College just as there are within groups associated with any organization. Accordingly, my intention was certainly not to presume the Wheaton radio station broadcasters spoke for the whole Wheaton community. However, given the nature and tone of their comments it absolutely sounded like they were passing judgment and "crusading" for their idea of proper fan attire and behavior. I'm sorry if you took my comments to be a presumption that the radio personnel spoke for entire Wheaton community.

Oh no, fearless leader. I knew there wouldn't be any criticism of the North Park fans by their own broadcasters.

No. It's fairly clear they speak for Ned Gulbransen. :)
