Nice pasting by Wesleyan, great bounce-back by North Park and fantastic (mild) upset by Wheaton!

I only was able to catch the Elmhurst play by play signing off on WRSE but the first thing that popped in my mind after looking at the box score were the 14 points from Rob Stzremp off the bench for Elmhurst.  He struggled immensely at Wesleyan over the weekend, so for him to bounce back big in Kenosha tonight was huge.

Great to see Burks drain 5 out of 6 from three point land.  When Burks is hot from three, Elmhurst usually win.

Four wins in a row in Kenosha for EC.  They needed a win, they got a win.  Well done guys.

Am interested to hear from posters who were able to watch or listen live.

Disappointing loss for Augie, but if they can win @ Millikin on Saturday and at home vs. IWU next Wednesday, it will be their 3rd straight CCIW championship.  They just need to put this one behind them and get the job done for the next week.

Wheaton has really stepped up their defense. A few days after keeping Carthage in check on the road, the Thunder hold Augie to 60pts while outrebounding augie 27-22. Wheaton also shoots 60% for the game including 57% from the 3pt line. Huge win and if they can beat IWU at home saturday they will have a good chance to win out and finish 10-4 going into the conf tourney.

Wheaton beat #8 Augustana tonight despite not getting a single FG from its bench.  The Thunder had 1 point off the bench - a Phil Denham FT.  Wheaton's bench only attempted one shot.

Carthage just couldn't find a way to hit the one big shot or get the one key stop when needed tonight.  And, to their credit, Elmhurst calmly canned 6 straight free throws down the stretch as Carthage had to resort to fouling.

Steve had a terrific night with 29 points, 9 boards and 5 assists.  Bowens was almost as good getting 22 on 9 of 12 shooting from the field.  At the end, Burks killed us with a huge three and Ruch hit four consecutive free throws to seal the win.

Carthage had to fight back tonight as has been the theme lately but, as mentioned, they just couldn't hit that one big shot to finally take the lead.  They did tie it with just over 4 minutes to go but Elmhurst came right back and Burks nailed a three and after a Carthage turnover, Burks went to work again and got another three pointer on an and one.

I thought Carthage could have put some pressure on the ball a little bit more than they did as Elmhurst had a few shaky moments where there were some unforced turnovers but all in all, Ryder and Childs did a good job tonight.

Carthage has to win out and hope for the best.....tough to lose the last three games at home, but, there is still hope.

The WETN broadcasters mentioned some of the players expected to take part in the IWU alumni vs Wheaton alumni game Saturday evening.  I can't remember them all, but I do remember...

Joel Kolmodin (2003 M.O.P.)
Rob Hamann (1999 M.O.P.)
Jonathan Steven
Jon Nielson
Charles Ridley
Nate Frank

They rattled off a bunch more too...if anyone from Wheaton has that list, please post.

I know the Titans will have...

Bryan Crabtree (1997 M.O.P.)
Adam Dauksas (2005 M.O.P.)
Keelan Amelianovich (2004 M.O.P.)
John Camardella
Luke Kasten
Jim Lehan
Brady Knight
T.J. Posey
Chris & Cory Jones
and more...

That's going to be fun.

From the Carthage website:

Quoting Coach Bosko Djurickovic on the Feb. 13 Elmhurst Loss;  "It was very, very frustrating.  At the moment, I don't even want to think about getting into the conference tournament.  We have to win Saturday at North Central, and that's all we care about right now.  Three weeks ago, we had complete control of everything.  Now, we don't control anything.  If Elmhurst wins out, we're done.  If North Central beats us, we're done.  This is a quality basketball team.  It's a good group of kids, and I'm proud of their effort.  Our only failings are in my lap, because we don't have the quality of players we had five or six years ago.  We have to go out and make ourselves a bigger basketball team and a basketball teams that has more options.  We rely too much on too few.  That's not a knock on anybody.  We've played really well this year, but we've lost five games in a row.  We need to keep how heads up and re-establish a little pride in ourselves, and that's our goal right now."

wow, did Bosko just say he doesn't have as good of players as a few years ago? As a guy who lived through the public bumblings of the Bill Callahan era at Nebraska, I can tell you that I'm sure that sits really well with his current players...even though it's true...yikes.

Rob.

This is not the first time he has said this (speaking of the last few years).

I didn't write it down but in addition to the ones you mentioned I remember: Jason Senik, Luke Moo and Jordan Kemper.

From the Carthage website this is a portion of Bosko's quote from the beginning of this year as part of their season preview and outlook....

"The lifeblood of college sports is recruiting.  We have nice players, but we don't have good-enough players.  We need size and we need better players to get back to the level we want to be at."

Well, that's certainly an interesting strategy. I've never seen it work...but hey, BD has plenty of rings and do not so who knows....

Viking Blue

I wouldn't be too fearful of Rob Hamann in the upcoming IWU-Wheaton game.  Formally known for his slashing style and 3-point touch, Hamann has let himself go over the past few years.

Look for him to get a touch or two in the post, followed by a full slab of ribs on the bench.

It's tough to see the great ones go... ;D
