When the coaches used to play at noon, it was fair game to hit Anderson any way you wanted to and no one would agree with his foul calls.  What was great was when his own teammates would hit him.  Winning wasn't everything in those days, but chances to take shots at Anderson was.

The quote from Dennis actually did refer to another incident between coaches that I won't go into here as the statute of limitations may not have run out.  North Park was the most entertaining place that I have ever worked.

From http://athletics.wheaton.edu:

"Wheaton, Ill. – Wheaton's Kent Raymond has been selected as the CCIW "Player of the Week" for men's basketball for the week ending February 24, 2008. This week's selection marks Raymond's second recognition as the league's "Player of the Week" this season, and the seventh time he has received the award in his stellar career.

Raymond helped lead Wheaton to a pair of victories last week as the Thunder posted a 2-0 record and secured a spot in the CCIW Tournament. Raymond averaged 31 points per game, with five rebounds and three steals per game last week. He shot 50% (20-40) from the field, with 46.2% (6-13) from three-point range. The 2007-08 preseason All-American scored 25 points, with six rebounds and three steals in a 65-56 win at Millikin last Wednesday to secure Wheaton's spot in the upcoming CCIW Men's Basketball Tournament. On Saturday Raymond tied his season-high with 37 points, with five three-pointers and three steals against Elmhurst.

During last Saturday's 78-69 win against Elmhurst, Raymond moved into 11th place on Wheaton's all-time scoring list with 1,504 career points. He passed five Wheaton all-time greats during the game: Luke Moo (1997-01); Clyde Glass (1976-80); Steve Clum (1970-74); Don Anderson (1955-59) and Rob Hamann (1995-99).

In addition to his placement on the career scoring list, his 20.3 points per game career scoring average is the second-highest of any player in school history. He is tied for fifth on Wheaton's all-time free throws list with 400 and his 162 career three-pointers is tied for the seventh-highest total in the program's history."

Congrats Kent.

Yes, congratulations to Kent Raymond upon an illustrious career at Wheaton. However, I'm pretty sure that his three-year career at Wheaton will end either this coming weekend, or, if Wheaton makes the tourney, whenever Wheaton loses in March. I just don't see him coming back next season. Of course, as someone said the other day, Raymond has confounded the expectations of league followers before, and he could do so again. But his valedictory performance on Saturday night appears to have been his King Arena swan song. Don't expect to see Kent Raymond in orange and blue again next season.

I agree. I highly, highly doubt that he will be back. I wouldn't want to stay an extra year for 33 grand just to play ball

Wheaton does have some sort of Master's program he could get into - but his major is communications, not biblical studies.

I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

AUGsportsFAN

Not to get picky or to take anything away from the 03 IWU team, but in 03 Augie and Carthage tied IWU for the conference title with all having an 11-3 CCIW record.

Here is an excerpt from Augustana's press release detailing there accomplishment and backgound on other teams who have also won three straight conference titles:

Three straight outright conference titles.  The teams that have won three straight are...

Augustana: 2006-2008
Illinois Wesleyan: 2003-05
North Park: 1978-80
Illinois Wesleyan: 1975-77
Augustana: 1972-74
Illinois Wesleyan: 1964-67 (4 in a row)
Illinois Wesleyan: 1960-62
Wheaton: 1956-59 (4 in a row...all 14-0)
Millikin: 1950-52

I second that AUG fan.  The Augie is the first team since NP in '78-80 to win it outright 3 consecutive years.

Goodluck to Augie in the tourney.

Guys, read more closely, since Q is generally quite careful in what he says.  He emphasized outright in the first sentence; left out the term in the second, to present all those teams with 3 straight (whether outright or shared).

P.S., good luck in the NCAA tourney (you're a lock for an at-large!), but I'd be lying to wish you good luck this week! ;)

Dennis, does NPU have a Master's in Communication?  How would Raymond look in blue and gold for a year?

robberki

I'd be more than happy to help create that masters degree and be his advisor for the year. After he leaves, I'm pretty sure we'll drop the program.

You can't transfer to a different institution and use graduate eligibility in D-III. You only have graduate eligibility at the school where you did your undergrad work.

I won't argue with you on that, but this award isn't a "body of work" award is it?

Scoring
Djurickovic 1st, Raymond 2nd  (1 PPG difference)

Rebounding
Djurickovic 14th, Raymond, not on the list

Field Goal %
Djurickovic 14th, Raymond, not on the list

Assists
Djurickovic 1st, Raymond 3rd   (1.5 APG difference)

FT%
Raymond 1st, Djurickovic 7th (10% difference)

Steals
Raymond 6th, Djurickovic not on the list

Assist to Turnover Ratio

I have nothing but admiration for what Kent Raymond has accomplished at Wheaton, but to say that there's no debating this year's MOP selection is far from the truth.

Titan Q

When I posted my All-CCIW team last week, I had Djurickovic as the M.O.P., but it was a really tough decision.  In the end, his heroics at the end of so many games tipped the scales in his favor for me over Raymond.

That said, I certainly can't question Raymond's selection at all.  He is a special player and one that just completely changes the game.  There can't be many perimeter players in Division III as dominant as Raymond.  It is a very much deserved honor.
