Could the fact that Carthage lost 6 of their last 8 have anything to do with Raymond getting the award over Djurickovic? Or perhaps because K-Ray is a senior?

While neither is officially a criterion (after all, there ARE no official criteria!), each might have been a factor.  The MOP has more often than not been from the title team, and nearly always from a team near the top.  Also, if a freshman has ever won, I'm forgetting who.

Still, I have no problem with the pick.

Both, yes, absolutely.

K-Ray

Has the J-Lo, A-Rod, K-Fed vernacular really led us to "K-Ray"?  I'd like to see this escalating craziness - and what we need to do as a nation to get past it - addressed by the presidential candidates.

Well, Titan Q, the football players were chanting it Saturday night. So I am afraid that the answer to your question is yes.

Just gotta roll with the punches, B-Quill. ;D
I'd have gone with "Q-Tite" to retain the mystique.

I predicted that Steve Djurickovic would win the MOP over Kent Raymond based upon taking the name of the award at face value, which in retrospect I probably shouldn't have done if I was trying my best to be an accurate prognosticator. That's no smear upon Raymond, whose career has already reached legendary proportions and who certainly had more than his share of fantastic games in January and February (last Saturday's being a classic example). But the player who was, literally, the most outstanding in the CCIW this season was Steve D.

I tend to agree with those who are saying that this award takes on more than the face-value criterion contained in the words "Most Outstanding Player". As noted, the coaches have in the past demonstrated a preference for selecting players whose teams finish towards the top of the league, and that's something that is not even implied in the words "Most Outstanding Player", much less stated outright. And I also agree with those who've raised the possibility that this is a lifetime achievement award for Raymond (a senior), particularly since his competition was a freshman and the thinking might've been, "OK, let's give it to Raymond, since Steve D. will likely win two or three of them over the next few years. He won't be missing out by not getting it this year."

This isn't really a quibble, since I feel no sense of outrage that Raymond won the award (then again, I'm not a Carthage fan) and I've always been aware that the selection of the MOP isn't as straightforward as the award's name would imply.

Both are great players, but Djurickovic will probably win the award the next 3 years, so congratulations to Kent Raymond, who is as good as they come in DIII basketball. The Carthage star will have his day.

I am a Carthage fan, but I am not outraged over Raymond's selection.  I do think however, the Steve was the "Most Outstanding Player" in the CCIW this season.  Without him, Carthage doesn't go 5-1 to start the conference season and they don't go 8-6 in the conference either.  One could argue that they are battling Milikin for 7th place honors.  The same can't be said for Wheaton minus Raymond.  Look at the supporting cast for Raymond compared to Djurickovic.  Wheaton had a player on each of the three CCIW all conference teams....Carthage had a first and a third.

ThunderMike, I don't care that he's a Josten's finalist relative to the MOP award.  Yes, it's great for the league, but shouldn't, and hopefully doesn't, have any bearing on the selection of the MOP.

I don't think I said anything in that regard. I simply mentioned the fact that he was a finalist for the Jostens, that's all.

Late nite

Just another voice weighing in on the MOP choice---I think Kent Raymond deserves this award because he is the best all-around player in the conference---He doesn't need the ball in his hands all the time to be a factor in the game---His contributions go well beyond scoring and passing
