Congrats, Paul -- glad to see you back on the board.

When Mark Simon said a guy who used to do Wheaton radio was interviewing at ESPN, I responded with your name before he said anything else. :)

augie fan,

The Rock Island Argus reported that Swetella's wrist xrays were negative and that he was expected to practice this week.  He is being watched closely but hopefully he will be ready to go on Friday.  He obviously is key if the Vikings hope to make a title run.
WOW...seems to be the common response to Augie's 4 team regional pod.  Three of the four teams are ranked in the top 14 and the Wash U/Wooster game is a rematch of last year's Final Four matchup in Salem.  Anyone in the Quad Cities area who enjoys great basketball should head out to the Carver Center Fri and Sat night to see these teams in action.  I imagine that Aurora will bring a large following on Friday to play Augie.  With the students still on break, the Vikings will need to rely on the QC community to help them advance to the sectional round next week.  By my calculations, a regional title would put them in some serious consideration for hosting the sectional the following weekend!  How cool would that be?  Come on Augustana fans...let's fill Carver and cheer the Vikes to 2 victories this weekend.  They have played tough all year and deserve some great support from their fans.

Congrats, Paul, on both your marriage and your new job!

Wow, Pistol Pete and Paul Carr reappear on CCIW Chat in the same week. It's like a 2001 flashback in here. All we need now is some nonstop Derek Reich chatter, Ryan Knuppel lighting up someone from beyond the arc, and the pick'em pool wagering all the corn in Manito. ;)

Ah, CCIW Nostalgia:

Travis Seniks pitty pat dribble.
Trost getting nuggied by Bernero after a tough loss.
Those god awful rides to Decatur.
Sagers train rides to Kenosha, pre game party in KMs home.
Warning : U of Chicago being in a very bad part of town.
Getting Hammer all lathered up.
What was the name of that old greenie coach?

... you and K-Mark betting a case of beer on which one of you will finish higher in the pick'ems ....

Augustana is a better team with Swatella on the bench and Bertrand
in action.  Much more aggressive in both rebounding and scoring.

I knew that when they were both still in the ultrasound stage........

Late nite

Some would agree---Most would not--- Will never happen---For obvious reasons

Not only a better team with him on the bench but a more explosive team when he only plays spareingly ~ sort of like what IWU should do when they play that #2 guard Travis - dribbling up and down the court out of control all the time does not give a team critical wins plus they both play way too much unlike Raymond   8)

The system that the Augustana coaching staff employs is not designed around one player, and I wouldn't want things to change on a team that is 22-5 entering the NCAA tournament. In games where Swetalla has not started, Dan Rukivana has gotten the start and Justin Bertrand was typically the first "frontline" substitute in the game.  If the Vikings are to be succesful in the tournament, all three of these players plus Collins & Rorer will have to have an impact.  So it's really not a matter of "who should start" or "who should play", but their collective body of work that will make the team successful.

OK, so I am a couple of years in arrears.   KM always changed his picks after reviewing mine.   And you all thought he is such a sweet guy.

Am I getting any takers?

Giovanine was on the receiving end of the Bernero noogie, not Trost.   Had Bernero noogied Trost after a Carthage win at the Shirk, I'm quite sure Trost comes out swinging.

Maybe I'll plant the idea with the St. Joe's assistant and we'll see what happens Saturday.

Okay Jack, double or nothing (think that would be about 6 cases, correct), I'll take both Augie and Wheaton to win in the first round?

One of my all time favorite games...Jack and K-Mark on the road trip to Rock Island.....first a stop at the riverboat where I failed miserably at learning to play craps, buffet dinner, the Carthage - Augie showdown with Antoine hitting a buzzer beater, Bernero giving Grey the noogie and then Jack promising he wouldn't fall asleep on the ride home (I had the over/under on that at under 10 minutes and won that bet too)....boy I miss those days !!!!

knarocky22

Don't feel bad, I went to Augie for 4 years and ended up at the boats more than I should have and I still don't know how to play craps.
