After reviewing the Wheaton website it's hard to believe that they haven't been to the Sweet 16 before. Is that a typo ??
Wheaton has made three appearances, prior to 2008, in the NCAA Tournament with an accumulative record of 1-3 (1995 0-1; 1999 1-1; and 2005 0-1)

I like the coach with the orange bow tie.  That was classey.

As long as the coach(s) are wearing pants, I don't give a rip.

I thought the exact same thing, but I didn't feel like "poking the 'Green' badgers".  Best to let them sleep over a single, inappropriate verb.   :P ::)

Well, at least you noticed my provocation! ;)

Your self-control means I will either have to be more provoative, or more subtle! :D

Study the posts of CardinalAlum.  He has become quite adept.  Or should I say inept?  :D

They have not been to a D3 sweet 16.

Wheaton won the first NCAA College Division national championship in 1957 and finished fourth in 1958.

I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

Q, will you be doing some recruiting in your back yard for IWU?

Hammer, I'll be looking for a 6-9 center here in mid-Missouri.  Hope to send one up to Bloomington.

I would prefer a very athletic one from Vashon...but a 6'9" beast with some talent will do.

Thinking about someone just like you but 2 inches taller, with better handles, more pure from the mid-range, longer wingspan, possessing better hops, and less afro as a collegian.

That sounds like a 6'9" Jeff Gibbs...what do you think, Stat?

I'm looking for the boxscore of Augustana's first game vs. Aurora.  If you can dig one up for me, can you post it on the d3 men's pick em page?  Or just send me an IM.

Thanks.

Despite having my credentials as an Augie fan regularly impugned by the "Fox," I think my devotion to Augie sports is pretty well established. To be going head to head for recruits with IWU, historically the best team in CCIW history, is a compliment, but over the years IWU has won a majority of the recruiting battles. Last year the consensus of nearly every one familiar with the CCIW basketball was that IWU had the best frosh class, and they demonstrated that on the court by exceeding expectations.

So why is Augie so successful? Coach G has lost out on some top frosh players in recruiting, but he has done very well with transfers. A lot of Augie's success the last 3 years was a result of convincing the Swetalla brothers to transfer to Augie, and where would Augie have been without Iowa transfer Brett wessels this year. I also thing DI transfer Keaton Frye could be a factor next year, if he is injury free. So it's not all about freshmen recruits.

Augie's success is also in no small part a result of Coach G being a terrific coach, who maximizes his talent despite not getting every targeted recruit. There is certainly no team in the conference that utilizes as many as 10 to 12 players in every game to achieve success. Depth and relentless defense are Augie's strengths year in year out.

I expect Augie to be a favorite again next year for a CCIW title and a NCAA berth. Snatching a few of IWU's recruits will help assure that success continues.

Sac, you missed the most exciting of all - the year Wheaton defeated Grinnell and scored over 130 points.  Sadly, they were smoked by Wash U in the second round.  Must have been all that running around.
