Mr. Ypsi

Greg,

During the season I try to stay within a cab ride of reality.  The off-season is for dreams! ;)

One of the best auto-biographical descriptions I have ever read.  +K

DoS

My cab has a flat-tire.
I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

Is "dude" now the formally-approved (pencil in Hall of Fame) method of addressing each other in D3 chat?  I didn't get the memo.   ;D

DoS

But then (or them) I'm not.

I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

Here is a more complete article from the Pantagraph on Eric McCullough's commitment to IWU now that he has paid his rooming deposit and the school is allowed to comment...

I wonder how he defines "we"??!

It was a rhetorical question.

It does show he is ready for CCIW basketball though!

And is McCullough potentially a Jack Sikma, or am I getting delusional again? :o

Dude, Jack Sikma had offers from Illinois, Purdue, and Kansas.  McCullough from IUPUI, Niagra, Holy Cross, etc.  Yes, you are delusional!

As far as where it puts them, I'd just say it's a big piece to the rebuilding process that is in place.
Ypsi - delusional?  - Yes!  Q - really nice to get McCullough committment this early - most definitely a 'big piece' to the rebuilding process still in progress.   I think we all realize the Titans still have a few more pieces to find just to be able to finish the puzzle.  And, as you noted earlier our current guys still need to hit the weight room hard.

Just so 'we' means parents, not outside boosters! ;D

Ooh, that's harsh, man! :o  Like I told Greg, the off-season is the time for dreaming.  Since he is so rapidly improving, and appears that he may still grow, until proven otherwise I'll retain hope the majors just blew it on a 'diamond in the rough'!  (I am also free to fantasize that, with his size, he will become Randy Johnson for the baseball Titans! ;D)

I don't think it means the collective "we" (which would include "he"). It appears to be the directive "we" (sans "he"). which is what made me take note. Do you really think he doesn't know how much it costs?

Actually, he probably doesn't.  My college student tries to be sensitive about it (and DOES know the outrageous cost of books, since he buys them - though with my credit card! :D), and was very concerned when he decided to transfer from EMU to UM, worried we couldn't afford it.  But he has only the vaguest sense of the actual tuition cost.

Speaking of tuition costs, scholarships, parents, etc.....I wonder if Assistant Coach Ray Swatella will still be on staff now that both his boys have used up eligilbility.  I say
eligilbility as I have no idea if they have/will graduate.

Just curious, is Raymond a junior or senior?  It says Junior on the all america list but I recall seeing him referred to as a senior as well?  If he is returning, I imagine he is overwhelming pre-season favorite for national player of the year.  If not, I imagine it's pretty wide open.

For personal reasons he skipped his sophomore season, so he is a junior by eligibility.  However, word is that he will graduate this spring, and already has a job lined up in his field.  It seems highly doubtful that he will be back.

I have been thinking about this and I don't know anything more than anyone else on here but I actually think just the opposite. I had a feeling going into the CCIW tournament and its even stronger now with Wheaton's success in the tourney. I will go on record as saying I would be very surprised if Kent did NOT return next year. A player with his level of competetive spirit is fueled by success and with the prospect of his whole starting 5 coming back from an elite 8 team I would think he is hungry for more as opposed to satisfied to ride off to Orlando for "financial services". I know there are economic concerns but he has the rest of his life to pay off debts. He likely would do it a lot faster than he thinks.

Look for #24 to lace them up for another late season run into the tourney.

I'm not going to dwell on this... I'm not going to think about it. <Repeat><Repeat><etc...>

I sure hope you are right, but I don't want to get my hopes up too high, only to be crushed when he doesn't return.

Can you imagine the fight for the CCIW crown if he does return?

While your theory seems plausible, usee, as far as I know that's all that you're doing -- expounding a theory. Have you made any inquiries among people in the know on the Wheaton campus? Although I haven't spoken to Kent Raymond himself, I have discussed his situation with two people affiliated with the Wheaton men's basketball program, and they both assured me that the chances that Raymond would return are very slim. Granted, both of those conversations were prior to Wheaton's tournament run, but the idea that the tourney run would've changed his mind all by itself is sheer speculation.

If you have a contact within the Wheaton program who can elucidate further as to Raymond's current thinking, then please share it. You can keep your contact anonymous, as I have. But any theorizing that doesn't have a source close to Raymond is really just idle talk at this point.
