Nice breakdown Q.  Will the future "Mrs. Titan Q" continue to let you spend this amount of time breaking down the CCIW?  if so, does she have a sister?

Just back from opening night of the Columbia Coed Competitive League (softball).  The "Future Mrs. Titan Q" goes 4-5 with the game-winning, base-clearing 3 RBI double in the bottom of the 7th.  Impressive stuff.

Made my first career start in CF tonight after a 14-year State Farm Competitive League career at 1B.  Didn't think I'd like it, but I gotta say I'm too old to be fielding ground ball screamers from lefties.  Bring on CF.

Here's the picture from the Pantagraph of TQ celebrating after the big softball victory... He really takes that "Titan" thing seriously.

I'm at work right now, and I'm pretty sure that any earthquake-derived swaying here in the Sears Tower isn't going to feel any different than the usual ever-so-slight wind-derived movement in the building that I've long grown used to feeling.

Wow.  How did I miss that news?!  When did you get to the day shift, and to what extent has that impacted (positively or negatively) your time on the lifeline that is this board?

Nice Fox!

Even though the character might be TQ's stand in, +1 for the thought and characterization of the mighty "Titan."

I'll take the 3 yard shuffle and the single cone drill - the one where you gets points for hitting a cone at 3 feet with your TV remote.

Having served on the Board of Police and Fire Commissioners in Mount Prospect for a brief while, I can tell you that just reading about the physical test firefighters had to pass made me tired.  Dragging an 80-pound hose a 100-yards, climbing up and down a ladder with a 150-pound person on your back, and cutting a square yard hole in a roof with just a fire ax.

Sounds a little more taxing than running around some cones set up on a football field.

DoS
I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

Wheaton has landed the forward from the Detroit area hinted at last week, Phil Carr, 6-5, from Southgate Anderson...

Phil Carr was also a Class A honorable mention in the state of Michigan.

I never liked those ratings sites, but if those guys have him ranked ahead of Charlie Woods from East Lansing, who went D1 Cleveland State.  Wheaton must be getting a pretty good player.

Wheaton's class is looking stacked.  We already talked about how good a player Pflederer is, but I've read some nice things about McCrary as a "dirty work" type of player, and some of these out of state kids look like they're going to be tough.

Has anybody heard anymore about Dave Pilalis?  I know he was leaning strongly towards Wheaton.  That would give them a bunch of guards in this class.

minneapolis miracle

Mccrary is a great pick up for Wheaton.  Tim was the garbage man for a New Trier team that was loaded with talent.  A little slight but has the fight to hang with anyone underneath the rim.  In a couple of years he will be a premier big man in the league.

Haven't heard anything definite, but other than geographically, Wheaton seems like a bit of an odd choice for Pilalas:

1. I saw several Wheaton North games last year. At none of them did I see any Wheaton recruiter talking to Dave. Of course, all they had to do to have access to him at any time was to drive about 3 minutes from WC to WN. They may have regularly attended practices, etc.

2. Even if Raymond doesn't return, Wheaton has 8 (players not listed as a G/F) guards eligible to return from last year's roster.

3. Pilalis is a pure 2 guard. Freshman Andrew Jahns started 15 of Wheaton's games last year at the 2, and shot 46%. Defensively, while in HS (also at Wheaton North), he was known not only as a shooter, but also as a superior defender, often being assigned the opponent's top scoring guard. Odds are high he'll be the full time starter this year. And, he'll only be a soph.

From an opportunity to play standpoint only, the Midwest Conference might be a better place for him to play. Just about every team from that conference was on him heavily all year with St. Norbert, Lake Forest, and Knox the most prevalent suitors, and with, I hear, St. Norbert holding a slight advantage among those teams.

Titan Q

I've heard Troy Rorer, 6-1 G, Bettendorf (IA) to Augie...I assume Oliver's brother?

http://ads.qctimes.com/articles/2008/03/31/sports/varsity/doc47ebc0b20892d238078213.txt

9.7 ppg
4.5 rpg
2.5 apg

Can't confirm - take it for what it's worth.

I see there is another Wessels at Bettendorf (Peter)...on the Honorable Mention list above.  Will he be a Viking like his brothers?

The last I heard Pilalis was not coming to Wheaton, though that is not confirmed.

And Jahns was the full time starter this year; he just had to recover from ACL surgery

Another recruiting rumor - 6-0 PG Mike McCurdy (24.5 ppg, 6 apg, 4 rpg), Burlington Central, to Elmhurst.

http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=152674

"He is considering Augustana and Elmhurst College, among others, and intends to make official visits to each before committing to his future path." (3/14/08)

This would be a biggie.

minneapolis miracle

If McCurdy decides to go to Augie, Augustana could possibly bring in a stellar backcourt.  Brian Desimone, a 6-1 guard from Buffalo Grove is considering Augie and IWU.  He and McCurdy would be a dynamic backcourt duo
