I've heard that 6-8 Neuqua Valley center Dan Pawelski has chosen Loras over Augustana and North Central.  I do not have a confirmation but believe that word is accurate.

IWU was in on Pawelski before 6-9 Eric McCullough committed and then backed off.  I saw him play once this year (@ Waubonsie Valley) and wasn't impressed at all, but I may have seen his worst game.  I think NCC and Augie were both still on him hard up until the end.  He may not be great, but it is just very hard to find big guys.

Maybe AndOne can confirm this?

Pawelski was high school teammates with Neuqua Valley star junior Derek Raridon (Todd's son).

Augie is getting a guard from Putnam County...don't know the name.   I saw Putnam County play (vs Delavan in Jordan Zimmer's final game) and their two best players were both juniors - Carlton Fay's younger brother and, I think, Ahlers (sp?).  I don't think Augie's Putnam County recruit is a big impact guy...I'm sure the name will surface here soon.

......in 14 minutes of action, to boot.

I don't have the boxscore, but I suspect these were not John's numbers while playing for me at King Arena vs the Wheaton alums on 2/16/08.

No doubt due to the airtight defense being played by Jon Steven et al. ;)

So, fighting gets a five-day suspension.  Running in funny costumes gets a seven-day suspension and threats of dire further consequences in order to squelch dissent (I believe that could easily be construed as 'extortion').

Methinks that principal is in serious need of "priorities-adjustment" (and buying a sense of humor might help, too).

Is Chris Anderson officially committed to Augie? If so and he's comparable to Drew Carstens, he sounds like a great recruit. If young Max Artis is any where near as good as his father, he and Anderson should really help Augie maintain their annual run for the CCIW title.

Based on Raymond's return to Wheaton. Delp's return to Augie, IWU's maturing young team and the solid recruiting amd returning talent of the other five teams the CCIW should be incredibly competitive next year.

AndOne

Isn't comparing Anderson, who has yet to play his first college game, to Carstens who was an All-American, just a bit premature?

The "taller more athletic version of Drew Carstens" comment might be a tad over the top.

1) There is a place for a taller, more athletic Drew Carstens, and it aint the CCIW -- it's the Big Ten, or at least the Missouri Valley.  Multiple schools higher than Hillsdale and UW-Parkside would be on a taller, more athletic Drew Carstens.  I'm pretty familiar with the type of kids Hillsdale recruits (they offered Travis Rosenkranz last year and Eric McCullough this year) and generally, former Lawrence head coach John Tharp recruits "All-CCIW type" kids to his new school.  I mean, the kid at Wheaton North (Bagge) that committed to Hillsdale early this year isn't necessarily "above" the CCIW is he?  The fact that two D2's offered Anderson makes me think he has 1st/2nd Team All-CCIW potential...but a taller, more athletic Drew Carstens gets a lot better offers than that.

2) A taller, more athletic Drew Carstens scores a lot more than 18 points per game against Class 2A competition.  Carstens would have had numbers similar to the Zack Boyd kid at Warrensburg-Latham (24 ppg this year) had he played at West Carroll.

3) It sounds like Anderson's skill set is a lot different.  Carstens was a guard and a slasher...Anderson sounds like a 3/4...

"I like to be multi-dimensional, that's one of the things I really work on. I used to be just a post player." Anderson said. "I kept the ability to score in the post, but then I moved out to play more of a wing position."

The way he's been described to me, makes me think of John Camardella (IWU '03) with more scoring ability.  John was a 6-4 combo forward with great athleticism and was a tenacious rebounder and a very good shooter.

I'm sure Anderson is great, but considering how good Drew Carstens was, that statement may be a little over the top...and it may be a little misleading based on styles.

But yes Augiefan, you are right, the CCIW is going to be outstanding next year.

I'm not a big fan of player comparisons myself, but this one came from an insider with far more experience evaluating talent & potential than me so I'll stay with it.

Experienced insiders are still well-versed in hyperbole.

I'll be more than happy if Chris Anderson is a first or second team All CIW player in his junior and senior years. Asking him to match up to the excellence of Drew Carstens is a little much for any untested player. The reference to Drew Carstens brings back good memories, but sadly as good as Drew was he never got to play in the DIII NCAA tourney during his great career a Augie.

Andy Studebaker of Wheaton was just picked by the Eagles in the 6th round of the NFL draft. Although it's a FB story, some of us do not venture over there at this time of year. Congrats to the Andy and good luck in his efforts to represent DIII FB in the NFL

He should have a decent chance to make the team.

This may be extremely premature, but is it possible for Wheaton to go all the way next year (win the CCIW and the NCAA's)?
Since Raymond is returning, their starting lineup is back, all they lost was a single bench player, and Wheaton has what seems to be a good recruiting class (Pflederer and others)...
I guess everything is possible, especially with Raymond, but how good of a chance does Wheaton have?
