How about this, then: Board contributor gets new job in CCIW land.

Holy cow. Now that is what you call an off-season bombshell.

Congratulations, Joe! Welcome back to the heartland! Just make sure that you stock up on plenty of Ozzie Guillen's Special Venezuelan Patchouli IncenseR. This is Decatur we're talking about, after all. Think Burgh Hall circa 1983, only with 80,000 people in it instead of 200.

The manager of the McDonald's across the street from North Park will be happy to see my brother again.

The CCIW is now going to have more chins than the Hong Kong phonebook.

(Yes, I am making sure that Dennis and Joe don't recycle any of their old material.)

Thanks, gentlemen.  It is great to be coming back to the Midwest and the CCIW.  I look forward to meeting many of you in person.  I haven't seen Dennis or Greg in many years, but I can't imagine that they have changed at all.   :D

See you all at some games.

Wow, the lengths it takes to get a Millikin poster! ;D  (Hopefully we will finally get some news from Decatur! ;))

Welcome home, Joe - even if you are now the enemy!  (Though I understand that the IWU/MU rivalry is definitely not what it was back in the day.  I even popped open champagne when the Lady Blues won it all in basketball; that would NOT have happened 35 years ago!)

BTW, I hope you're not TOO good - we count on those automatic victories in most sports! :D

Too late.  I recycled that one at lunch today with one of Joe's old Trinity College chums - Ken Inskeep - who sends his regards to Joe and his sympathy to Millikin.

Congratulations Joe Hakes!  Welcome back to the Midwest and CCIW.  Hum, could you, please, put on your list of things to do - a poster whom can provide some Millikin info ?

For those who follow the CCIW football board, this choice obviously was influenced by the proximity and quality of Decatur's college bar scene.

Oh boy... this one gave me a good laugh.  I need to go back and review the insanity of that thread.

Burgh Hall is currently undergoing a near-complete renovation (not "complete," because all the bathrooms were upgraded the last two summers) and should be a far more attractive and comfortable facility when the students return in late August.  In addition to all new rooms and furnishings, there will be a more welcoming student commons.

You won't have Burgh Hall to kick around any longer.

Yes, a friend of mine who is one of NPU's engineers gave me a full update on the facelift that the old girl is getting this summer. I won't be checking it out, though -- I'm sick of envying all of the improvements to the campus that the current generation of students can enjoy that I couldn't. I'll stick with my memories of the old Burgh Hall, with its either-freezing-or-boiling temperatures, its World War II vintage intercom system, its disgusting carpeting and chipped linoleum, and its cinderblock walls painted a ghastly puke green, thankyouverymuch.

Except that Franklin Hall didn't even have an intercom, you spoiled brat! ;)
