(For those of you who may have missed the announcement, MIAA member Tri-State University will officially change its name to Trine University on August 1.)

NPU will play only three of its eleven non-conference games at home, and five of the seven contests for the Vikings in the first CCIW round-robin will be on the road. It's going to be a long, hard slog to get to February.

AndOne

In tonight's Deerfield Summer League action---------

Congrats to the son of poster petemcb who hit a shot from deep in the left corner at the buzzer for the Redmen to send their game with North Park into OT.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to see the final outcome as I was a rider rather than a driver tonight, and my ride was leaving.

AndOne

Also in Deerfield summer league action----

I see that IWU forward Dan Schouten, a soph-to-be who missed all of last season following shoulder surgery, has returned to action. He appears to be moving well and playing without much if any restricted movement or pain. Looks like he just needs to get back in game shape. The talent he displayed during his HS career is still there. Danny is also one of the good guys. Good luck to him (except of course against one team).

Sounds like Illhoops1 is all but ready to lock IWU is as a favorite this year!?!?!  Pre-season predictions in July!....hahah im only kidding.

This is more for Elmhurst College Bluejays fans but any CCIW poster is welcome to jump in.  Help me name an all time starting 5 for Bluejays mens basketball.  I think Chris Martin, Brett Ruch, and Ryan Knuppel are easy picks.  Please help me come up with some more names to consider for the final two spots.  You can name players regardless of their position.

G Ryan Knuppel (2001)  [Only Bluejay to win the Fred Young MOP award]
C Brett Ruch      (2009)  [Might be early to include him]
F Chris Martin    (2006)  [Three time first team CCIW pick]
- - - - - - - - - - - -
others to consider

F Kent Jones      (1997)  [Two time all CCIW pick.  .603 FG% in 1996]
G Bill Simpson    (1975)  [Two time all CCIW pick.  Scored 1141 points]
F Charles Woods(1992) [tremendous rebounder.  Led CCIW 3 times]
C Pat Lira           (1956)  [Led CCIW in scoring twice.]

I am sure I forgot some deserving players.

Another possibility------Current EC player Ryan Burks-----

2nd team all-conference in both 06-07 & 07-08, and quite likely 1st team in 08-09.

In 06-07 he hit 49 consecutive free throws (most in the nation that year), 83 of 86 (96.5 percent) in CCIW play, and 130 of 145 (89.7 percent) for the entire season, including his last 35 straight and 74 of his last 75.

Naperick

Ryan does deserve consideration.

Thank you!

C Jim Peters (1970)
C Cal Saunders (1973)
G Dave Cowman (1976)

Bill Simpson was the best one season player I ever saw for Elmhurst in the last 43 seasons - i think he average 27 points per game in 1975, without ever coming within 20 feet of the basket.  Great Shooter.

I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

None of those five make my top ten - though Hill would probably be an honorable mention.

I never saw him play, but most longtime IWU fans would have Blaise Bugajski's ('84) name on this list right after Sikma's.

Carthage all-time team:

Jack Lutz
Dave Rosenbalm
Johnie Butler
Jason Wiertel
Antoine McDaniel

I struggle with keeping a four time all-CCIW first teamer like Rob Garnes off this list but I can't seem to pick someone to remove either.  One other player that merits consideration is Barry Bennett.

Lutz was a beast and was chosen in the draft by the Milwaukee Bucks the same year that Lew Alcindor came out.  Unfortunately they also drafted Bobby Dandridge that year and Lutz ended up being the last cut.

Butler was a Fred Young MOP and Rosenbalm was a terrific player on some pretty good Carthage teams in the mid-70's.

No need to tout Jason or Antoine, both MOP's and All-Americans.

I really have dated myself by adding a player from the late 60's who I remember watching as a young lad (Lutz) and the players from early 2000's...

a very good list and reasoning.

add C Jerry Parks (1968) to the list as a reserve, with Garnes
