I asked the dean if she could hold off on fixing up Magnuson until thursday because I have a Wednesday night MBA class that's held there and if we couldn't have class that would be fine with me!
Classes normally held in Magnuson are being relocated elsewhere on campus.  I'll be teaching in Nyvall and Brorson this week.

Sorry to scuttle your plans!

Ah, the basement of Nyvall - remember it well - that's where I had English 101 Fall term of my freshman year - 1965.

I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Mr. Ypsi

My sincere sympathies to NPU denizens on the damage; any other campuses in the area seriously affected?

I was feeling rather afflicted with the 4-7 inches received in SE Michigan (I'd estimate my house got about 6), and the tornadoes only 10 miles away, but you guys obviously got hit much worse.  I suppose any posters who got seriously whacked may not be heard from in awhile, but everyone online OK?

Personally, I'm about 500 yards from the Huron River (and 30 feet higher), so if I get wiped out, look for Arks on the waters! ;D  (Though the storm drain is directly in front of my house, so once all the debris clogs the drain, the water sometimes (like yesterday) does lap against the house - annoying, but not to the degree of what you guys got.)

I would have never imagined that it would ever get that high.

Spoke briefly with a North Park student today and learned that NPU is steadily recovering from the large amount of damage inflicted on the campus by the recent rains and subsequent flooding. All classes have evidently been resumed, although some alternate locations are still apparently being used. This student resides on an upper floor in school owned apartments and indicated his building was never closed, but the parking lot of the building was under water for a couple of days. Open gym has continued without interruption. It sounds like the gym and athletic center suffered little or no damage.

Best wishes for a continued rapid recovery to the 100% level of the pre-flood operations at NPU.

Titan Q

A note about a big kid being recruited by Augustana and, reportedly, other CCIW schools...

http://ilprepbullseye.com/page29.html

... 6'7 Erik Dornfeld from Geneseo High School in Geneseo, IL visited Lake Forest College last weekend and is also receiving interest from Wisconsin-Parkside, Wayne State, Ashford and most of the schools in the CCIW (most notably Augustana).

Well, we're about 2 1/2 weeks from the start of practice (10/15).  I'm getting a lot of good reports on the Titans, especially in the development of last year's freshmen to sophomores.  It sounds like 6-7 Doug Sexauer has gotten a lot bigger and stronger and that 6-4 G/F Matt Schick really had a great off-season.  I expect the two returning freshmen guards - Travis Rosenkranz and Sean Johnson - to have big sophomore seasons.

"Competition" will probably be the theme of IWU's preseason.  The Titans have multiple legitimate, CCIW-ready players at all five positions.  Reports are that open gyms have been extremely intense as players try to establish themselves heading into practice.  With his first two recruiting classes, Ron Rose has the program back to where it should be in terms of quality and depth of talent.

Before practice even starts, my best guess at IWU's 2008-09 rotation is...

PG - Travis Rosenkranz, 6-0 So. (Sean Dwyer, 5-11 Jr.)
SG - Sean Johnson, 6-1 So. (Jordan Morris, 6-3 Sr.)
SF - John Koschnitzky, 6-6 Fr. (Matt Schick, 6-4 So.)
PF - Doug Sexauer, 6-7 So. (Duncan Lawson, 6-8 So.)
C - Brett Chamernik, 6-5 Sr. (Eric McCullough, 6-8 Fr.)

I've heard that Eric McCullough is way too thin right now after a summer of playing baseball...needs to put on 15-20 pounds to be competitive for playing time.  This will probably be an issue for McCullough during his career as a two sport student-athlete at IWU...the body types necessary for a pitcher and a low post player are not the same.  He could be anywhere from a big minutes varsity guy to JV for the Titans this season.

Several other players are in the mix though, most notably senior guard Andrew Gilmore if healthy, freshman Jordan Zimmer, and sophomore Ed O'Callaghan.

A lot of water will go under the bridge between now and November 21.  Should be fun.

Titan Q

Nuptials two weeks from today in Palm Coast, Florida.  She appears to still be in but does have 14 days to get cold feet.  Will keep everyone posted.

Titan Q is right on the money with his assessment of the Titans. I have been lucky enough to watch a few of the open gyms. They are going to be very competitive for the next few years. They will get up and down the court pretty quick and have pretty good size in the middle.

TQ, I'll assume the honeymoon will be short and sweet as you  couldn't miss opening day of practice for ANYTHING !!!!
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!
