The annual CCIW pick'em contest is starting up again. Be sure to head on over to the CCIW pick'em room and post your prognostications before Saturday afternoon's season opener.

Greg, for those of us who have never participated in this, what exactly do we do?  Do we just click on the CCIW Pickem board and post our picks for each game listed or is there somewhere else we go?  When I look on that board, I only see a few posts.

I'm planning some travel for March 09  that may work out for me to make the D3 final four. Can anyone tell me when that will be or reference a site with the information. I looked briefly on this site but could not find it.

The Augie scrimmage must have really toughened up Platteville for their meeting with Bradley.:)        Glad to hear Augie was competitive against the Pioneers in the scrimmage. Obviously, Platteville, Wheaton(with Kent Rasymond) and Wash U (victor over DII Missouri (St.L) look to be the class of DIII going into the new season, but Augie and several other CCIW and WIAC teams are right in the mix. What a great advertisement for DIII basketball these wins over and competitive losses to DI and DII teams are..

I'm a bit late on this, but I would most certainly it did.  I'm sure that Augie's players and coaches will agree, but getting to play outside competition is always better than beating on each other in practice, especially if you can go against a great team.  I'm sure both programs will benefit from scrimmaging each other.

He will usually post all the directions on the CCIW Pickem board.

Remember, DEFENSE WINS games - in D3 basketball atheleticism, quickness and playing defense is a key to WINNING, points will follow.

A team will NEVER WIN BIG games unless they have that ingredient on the floor at all times!

Mark my words     ;D

... I thought OFFENSE won games and DEFENSE won championships...  Or the best offense is a good defense?

How about a defense for your offense...?

Unfortunately I can only find these clips from Fred Heinz and his "World Style Basketball" video...  but that's the one quote I remember from watching his video over 15 years ago while at a Wheaton College Crusader basketball camp...  When shooting a one handed shot, you were supposed to put your other hand up to knock away the defense... that was the defense for your offense...

Alas, couldn't find that clip, but here are two more that are almost as entertaining...!

... and there's good reason why we've never seen this before...!

I've really gotta thank Coach Harris for this... it makes me chuckle even today!

If anyone else is wondering about that ... please post your picks in the pick'em room. Don't post them here, and don't e-mail them or PM them to me. The reason why there are no picks posted there from prior seasons is because Pat cleans out the room every year (except for the final season totals) in order to save space on this site.

OurHouse

Nope - DEFENSE wins games

Creates opportunities which enables teams to score points thus winning games because of GREAT DEFENSE.
Did the Bulls win games in their era because of points scored? Of coarse they did but only because they playes GREAT DEFENSE to create offensive opportunities.

Milikan, IWU, NP and NC will have a tough time this year because they do NOT play defense - no really good guards either.
Mark my word, please      ;D

OurHouse, I want to make sure I'm understanding you correctly.  Are you saying none of those four teams you've mentioned have any really good guards?  IWU's guards are not as good as, say, Elmhurst's?

I seem to remember Johnson and Rosenkranz running circles around Wheaton's guards last year while Dwyer focused his attention on shutting down Raymond (and doing a better job than anyone else).

Titan Q

You have to keep in mind the posting history of OurHouse.  He is not a real big fan of Travis Rosenkranz, Sean Johnson, and for that matter, any Illinois Wesleyan guard not named Sean Dwyer.  Many will remember the informative post declaring former IWU guard Teddy Toliver "total garbage."  The posting history tells a bit of a story...

Last year when Johnson and Rosenkranz started playing very well for the Titans, OurHouse created a new screen name and was sniffed out...

A story from the Decatur Herald & Review...

Rosenkranz makes his point

Interesting quote for Marc Smith to make:

"He's fast, and he runs their show well...we need a point guard like him.''

I'm guessing Mark Patrick isn't going to like that.

Q:

Milikan is one terrible team - it was like watching a bad high school game sorta like the one in which IWU played NCC at home. I am questioning the parity in the CCIW this year?

I'd bet a lot of money you are OurHouse reincarnated.  I mean, anytime Rosenkranz or Johnson has a great game, it must be because the opposition is terrible, right?

Questioning the parity in the league?  You'll get laughed out of here saying that this year.

Pick a name and stay with it.

Wow, nailed it.

He returned to the board as OurHouse, after some time away, with the post:

Boo    :o, it's me again..
hmmmmmmmmmm

It was almost as dramatic as Michael Jordan's "I'm back" fax.

On a serious note, Sean Dwyer is about as solid a kid as any Illinois Wesleyan player I've ever been around.  I think it is unfortunate this clown has tied himself to Sean.
