Mr. Ypsi

Now, now, Greg.  I said "AT LEAST ten times the hyperbole".  And even your hyperbolic retort surely wouldn't deny that 'ten billion quadrillion' is at least ten. :D

Let me give you an example which was related to me by the father of a player Coach G was recruiting a couple of years ago. I can't prove it, but I have no reason to suspect the father was lying. ALSO, I'M JUST THE MESSENGER HERE, NOT THE OBSERVER.  The father, mother, and son (player) were weekend guests of Augie and Coach G. Naturally they attended a game during their visit. The game was very close, and with about a minute left Augie's perhaps biggest star made a bonehead play and turned the ball over to the opposition. Coach G immediately call a TO. When the player who erred came within reach of Coach G, he reached out and grabbed him by the shoulders, shaking him violently, while screaming in his face to the effect of how stupid he was. The reaction of the father and son was that if he was this intensely aggressive and brutal to one of his brightest stars, how would he treat a lesser player on his teams?  The kid ended up at another school.

In fairness, i think the man can coach. That fact is evident by his record. I'm just not sure I'd want him coaching MY son, and if I was a player, I wouldn't respond to that type of "coaching."

AndOne,

Some might say it's good that Coach G doesn't favor his stars or change his demeanor to impress a recruit. ;)

Seriously, the only part of the story I would question (other than "violent" and "brutal" which are a little over the top), is that Coach G was telling the player how stupid "he" was. He might well have been telling him the play was stupid, but I'd be willing to bet he was not calling the player stupid.

My guess is the player in question was Drew Wessels. I think the fact that his two younger brothers are at Augie now also says a lot about Coach G. And, of course, the Wessels aren't the only family to send multiple sons to play for Giovanine. As Greg Sager pointed out, his players and former players are intensely loyal to him (as he is to them). And not just the Carstens and Harrigans, but kids who saw little or no varsity playing time.

There's nothing wrong with your acquaintance's son going somewhere else. Not everyone is comfortable with every coaching style. As they say "different strokes for different folks."

I don't know who's bright idea it was to schedule back to back games and "cram" early.  The last thing you want to do is fatigue yourself as a team early, then be flat against CCIW foes.
I only was able to broadcast a half and had to leave but in the first 5-10 minutes Elmhurst looked a little on the sluggish side, but turned it around with the fast break halfway through.
McCurdy looks good.  If he is able to grow and get better that would help Burks and Ruch get a little more open.
Logistics nightmare!  After the Aurora game the Jays boarded a bus and drove halfway (Quad Cities??) and will resume their trip to Simpson this morning.  Tough scheduling early and some big time opponents coming up in UWL, UWSP, and possibly Wash U, plus Simpson is a toughy.

I have to say that the allegations made against Coach G. are just another example of the wussification of America. I can't count the amount of times I was grabbed by a coach(either by the shoulders, the head, or even a yank of a facemask in football) or screamed at and I turned out just fine and didn't feel assaulted in any way. Some people need to grow a pair.

Dan--

Thanks for your insight. And yes, there is something to be said for consistency
Also, I'm sure you're right that Coach G was not calling the player himself (I don't know his identity) stupid, but rather screaming at him for making a bonehead play.
I guess I just favor a different "style" as I know I wouldn't respond to that type of "coaching."

Wow. I never heard of a college team taking a bus 1/2 way to a game and then continuing the next day. Crazy scheduling for sure!

Do you know why Macias didn't return to school?

I see Zack Boyd DNP in the 2nd game after starting the 1st game. Any idea why?
Thanks.

Rob---

I like that word u used "wussification." I'm sure we'll see it in Webster's soon!

Some players, parents, and fans could probably care less how a coach treats his players as long as they win. Others would not be so understanding, especially in the no hazing, no violence era. I do certainly agree that some people, wusses if you will, carry things too far with regard to "don't yell at my precious little Billy." Its more the grabbing by the shoulders and shaking I object to.

As far as some people needing to grow a pair, I'd suggest you take care of yours and let others worry about the condition of theirs!!!

Lastly, this case wasn't an "accusation." It was a fact.

At the risk of endangering my karma due to ignorance, I am curious as to how the whole karma thing actually works.  ??? I have stayed in frustrated silence until now, but I can't take it anymore.  >:( Would someone please be kind enough to explain it to me?

I other news, the College of Staten Island lost their first game 90-48 last night :o I'm not really sure what to expect Friday night.

I just took a peek at U Chicago's schedule, and with three of their next four games against Augie, Loras, and Wheaton, is it possible for the Maroons to start 1-5???

+K for asking

Karma is the way the residents of the bat cave (aka Hall of Famers) keep the non-Hall of Famers in their place.  If you are a non-Hall of Famer and you pick a fight with a Hall of Famer a light goes off in the bat cave and the herd descends upon your karma en masse.

Now you might, for instance, call these non-conference games "pre-season" and you will incur their wrath.

If one of them tells you its December, when the calendar says its November, don't argue.  You lose.  It's like the card game "Government" - whatever card they show against your's - wins.

It doesn't matter if you are right are wrong, just how they play the game.
