Carthage @ Cal Lutheran box:

Sounds like a very rough night in hostile territory for the Red Men, as Carthage was whistled for 30 fouls and had three players foul out and a fourth player ejected. Down by 16 points with eight and a half minutes left, Carthage stormed back and had the CLU lead cut to seven at 71-64, when with 4:22 left Sean Fendley got into it at midcourt with one of the Kingsmen and was thrown out of the game.

I wonder if Sean Fendley was reincarnated as a Redman, or something else when, after being thrown out of the game with 4:22 remaining, he, or something inhabiting his body was still in the game 34 seconds later at 4:22, at which time he exited.

I wondered about that when I saw the box last night, too. But Steve Marovich wrote in his game recap that Fendley was tossed out on that foul, and I'll take Pistol's word over a Stat Crew PBP anyday.

North Central pummeled Aurora tonight in a game that was not even as close as the final 83-65 score. NCC was up by 30 with 9:11 left, at which time the Cards substituted liberally with 15 players seeing action. During that time, Aurora cut the lead from 30 to the final difference of 18.

NCC was led by Mitch Raridon who hit for a career high 20 pts (6/12, (6/9 3s), 2/2).
Reid Barringer was close behind with 19 (7/13, (5/9), and Chris Drennan had 14 on 4/7 + 6/7. PG Dean Prince dished out 9 assists without a TO! The Cards shot 46% for the game, but 52.2% from beyond the arc.

Here's the article in the kenosha news today about Carthage's loss to Cal Lutheran, couple of quotes from Bosko.

Davidson's Stephen Curry got shutout in last night's 30-point win over Loyola (MD).  The losers double-teamed Curry wherever he went so he went and stood in a corner and his teammates were 4 on 3 on offense every time down the court.  The Davidson coach was so mad at the tactic that he left Curry in the game until the final minute and he was still getting double-teamed.

In 1974 Augustana shutout Leon Gobczynski of Millikin, when Gobbo was averaging nearly 40 points per game.  Bruce Hamming 6-11 played behind the 6-9 Gobbo and Mike Michalski (6-7) played in front of him.  Gobbo got so frustated he fouled out.  Of course the game was in Rock Island (and Ryan and Gamber were probably tooting), but that shouldn't minimize the accomplishment.

Gobbo averaged just under 40 points per game (976 points in 26 games) that year - while getting 0 vs Augiestana, 5 vs IWU and 9 vs Olivet Nazarene.  He had 42 and 48 against North Park.

I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

Glad to hear UWO is better than they sounded last night. Augie beat them in a close one last year on the road. At least Augie's strength of schedule is improved over a few years ago with 2 WIAC teams, Wash U. and a few others. It should help get them ready for the conference season.

It sounds like Wessels is close to full strength again, although he did not start last night. His presence has certainly made the Vikings high ranking look more accurate since his return for the Wash U. game. Hopefully by next week he will be starting again, although the way Coach G. gives quality inutes to 8 or 9 players starting is not that big of a deal for Augie players.

I couldn't be at the game last night, but it sounds like another dominating performance by the Thunder. The balanced scoring is very good to see, especially coming from McCrary and Pflederer. This team is much more difficult to defend due to the amount of scorers in the lineup. Andy Wiele has been as good as advertised so far, but has yet to face anyone remotely his size/strength. But he has been playing outstanding basketball.

Now it's time to see how Wheaton will perform on the road against tougher competition when they travel to University of Chicago next Wednesday.

Doesn't seem to give Loyola (MD) much confidence in the quality of their coach, when clearly this tactic wasn't working. Unless his primary goal was to stop Curry.  ::)

That said, it doesn't sound like Loyola (MD) had much of a chance.  Still... you gotta compete with some level of integrity.  Sounds like this coach is just a bit "out there".

I dont know if "tougher competition" should be used to describe U of Chicago right now.

Well, that may be true but they showed against Augie that they are capable of hanging with the big boys

and they showed against a very poor Lake Forest team that they are just not very good.

So which U of C will show up? Just because they played bad against LF doesn't mean they are a bad team. I would think they are very capable of competing with Wheaton on their home floor.

Wow. That's another shocker from the Maroons. I thought after the second half they played against Augie, that they were getting things figured out, but apparently not. That's an unbelievably bad start for the defending UAA champion and a pre-season Top 20 team.

Im sorry. I just dont see how any team that gets blown out by this year's version of LFC can be a good team.
