What's that old line about good coaches?  He could take his and beat ya and he could take yours and beat ya.  The MIAA has seen very few coaches who could measure up to Ed Douma.  He had great talent at Calvin, but his record based on who he played, was unbelievable.  He wasn't afraid to take on the DII and top NAIA teams and he usually beat them.
I'll never forget him taking the Knights into the old Civic Center during Eric Elliott's senior year.  After losing twice during the regular season to arguably the greatest team Hope has ever had (they were ranked 2nd in the nation at the time), Calvin beat Hope in overtime in the second round of the NCAA's.  He was a master motivator and game strategist.  Best of luck in retirement, Eddie!!

I don't see where anyone's complaining.

haha I guess it is just me because I am a poor poor college student and it means I am going to have to pay an extra 4.50 for that ticket if our bus is able to get enough tickets! :'( $$$$

Nah, it wasn't just you.  I thought the same thing yesterday when I read the post.  Unfortunately I'm supposed to be busy working right now, so I can't go back through and find the quote.  I thought it was funny, too, after last week's stressing about not having a split session.  I can really understand where it would put you guys in a bind, though!  :)

We complain if they do split the session and we complain if they do not.

It was a JOKE....easy Francis (sorry, obscure STRIPES film reference..I know your name is probably not Francis ;)....if I am driving all the way to WSP for a game, I will gladly pay extra to watch both.....

I was looking up information on NAIA rules, and ran across this. Smite me if you must, but the headline on the page was too good to keep to myself.

Can you say SPELLCHECK???  ???   Thanks for the humor!  :)

Thank you Pete, and GS for the info on the NAIA schools.  I had done some research, but it makes more sense if they let the schools do the split scholarships.  It just seemed like C stone has attracted quite a few kids the last few years, and I doubted they had unlimited $ to spread around.
Eddie D. had a great run at Calvin.  I am sure many opposing coaches are breathing a sigh of relief.

I would think from the Hope perspective they have to like how the bracket has worked out this year.  Their first 3 opponents are all 2nd place finishers in their respective leagues.  Each one is perimeter oriented.  And of the 3, Calvin seems to be the most defensive oriented.  On paper at least it doesn't look like Carroll is anything like playing Wittenburg last year.  I don't think Carroll will be able to limit Hope to a 5-25 first half as happened against Witt.  I'm not saying Carroll isn't a good team this just looks like a good matchup for Hope.

That's what the then #7 ranked Augustana said and the #5 ranked Tommies said.  What you can't overlook is that Carroll has a superstar guard who can do everything and is fearless.  Also, you probably haven't seen an offense that moves like this team does.  They run on you, but their half court game is deadly as well.  A lot of cuts without the ball and they set a varity of screens.  Typically 4/5 players on the court will be able to shoot 3's from distance and they can all handle it...heck even one of their bigs (6'7 Ryan Muellner 48% 33/70 3pt) can shoot it.   The one knock on them is down low.  You need to go inside.

With all that being said, they are beatable...but they are playing like a team on a mission and have beaten some very good teams in their last 6 games.  They crushed a good Lawerence team on the road this year while beating Augie and St. Tom on the road as well.

If you check out the massy ratings, they have the 11 toughest schedule in the country.  They have played and seen the best.

Perhaps. I wouldn't take them lightly, that's for sure. Quick, athletic guards have given Hope some trouble defensively (see the Wheaton game, for example). It'll be interesting to see how GVW handles Drury: Marcus? Cramer? throw some Partridge at him, I'd imagine. I liked the straight-up man they played against Calvin Saturday, without so much trapping and doubling.

The biggest problem is that we don't have orange and blue exclusivity.

Off the top of my head:

I'm going to try not to name any franchises!
Guu's in downtown:  Great for burgers
The Final Score:  Sports bar and grill, serves food
Springville Wharf:  Must try the Cheesy Italian Fries
Hill Top Pub & Grill:  Great food, TVs, etc.  A common place for visiting teams' fans.
Bill's Pizza:  Downtown, eat in, take out or deliver (if you're hungary at the hotel after the game)
Topper's Pizza:  Delivery
The Wooden Chair:  Downtown, good for lunch on Saturday.
Sky Club Supper Club:  Great breakfast buffet (all you can eat)
Blueberry Muffin:  Nice little breakfast place
Olympic Restaurant:  breakfast

Oh yeah, go to Belt's for ice cream!  Seriously.

There is also the Point Brewery, not sure if they give tours on Saturdays.
