Hey Rip Tide Red this is an MIAA board.  Go back to your home.  Nobody cares what you think and I can't believe I'm defending Hope but they have been to the tournament repeatedly and had success.  You give meaningless stats like "Because the Detroit Lions beat the Cowboys this year they should have been a playoff team and probably would have beat the Seahawks if it weren't for a botched snap."  Great reasoning Red Eye  There you go Dutchies anything can happen.  I will probably be crusified for defending you.
-K from me. I like to have a welcoming board, especially from informed followers of the game who are willing to venture an opinion, and can bring some perspective from another league. It's a board ABOUT the MIAA; not a board limited to people whose allegiances are to MIAA schools. So - a +K to RiponRed.

Thus Spake Hopeathustra.

Well said.  I particularly appreciate other perspectives at this time of year when MIAA school are going up against teams that we may not know much about.  Ultimately, we'll have to see Hope and Carroll actually play to know anything with certainty, but getting opinions from both sides is great for now.

Eh, I don't know.  A quote from Ashabi supporting Hope?  That's worth gold - LOL!   :D

Hey RoR -- Our losses to Carthage and Wheaton came with a key player injured, along with 2 others.  But okay.  I guess time will tell...enjoy Thursday.   ;)

Wow:  The more things change, the more they stay the same.  If
one wants to really do some research check out the data on recent MIAA vs. MWC teams.

Take a look at the Massey Ratings.  Hope had the 64th hardest schedule in the country.  Carroll currently has the 11th hardest schedule.  Pretty much everyone in the MWC had a harder schedule then Hope did (Expect Knox).  They played against better competition according to Massey.
Fine - make those comparisons.  Massey is a fine rating system, but your rating doesn't win you games - just ask Auggie & the Tommies.

Hope lost to Wheaton, a team that Augustana beat twice...the same team Carroll just beat on their home floor.

Gregg Ashabi---Thanks for makeing my day........and welcome back.

Should I put a stop payment on my donation to the new Mike Turner basketball and brew pub complex?  You've got me worried. :-\

For those who don't know or don't remember, Mr. Ashabi is a legend, the only individual to be inducted into the supersweetness hall of fame.........in fact he's the founding member.  The only poster in D3hoops.com posting history to have his name red-dotted like a curse word.

Oh the memories. :D ;)

I'll probably get a punch in the shoulder for this on Friday........it was passed on to me,  I thought it was funny.

I love the notes in orange and blue,
the tickets in hand, I love that too!
And now my friends I have to say,
I can hardly wait until FRIday.
The wait is taking its toll on me,
I feel weak, I can barely see.
I have a hang nail that really hurts,
I've worn the last of my good, clean skirts.
I guess I'll have to call in sick,
if they read this poem they'd know its no trick!
I shared with my principal last Monday morn
my mental well being is not in top form,
I'll need a sick day I'll need one real quick,
He said, "b-ball fever can make one very sick."
So I,m off on Friday without any trouble,
and my priest said, "GO HOPE!" which makes our luck double!

Please note, I can not be held responsible for poor poetry, I work with 13 year olds all day, it tends to have adverse effect on my brain.

GO HOPE!

I have no problem getting bashed...I know where I am, but thanks for the karma!

First of all, if you want to disregard strength of schedule and opponents played...fine tell that to the NCAA committee who I guess just picks the teams with the best records (wait, actually the do...atleast at the D3 level :) )

All I'm pointing out is that Carroll has seen some of the best teams D3 has to offer and has beaten some of the best.

I would like all of Hope nation to explain to me who Hope played this year that was any good.  This is an honest question.  I mean did I read that right that Hope played Calvin 4 Times!!!!! If that's proof of a quality opponent, I agree, but FOUR TIMES!!!

Also, losing at home to anybody is never acceptable when your as good as 5th in the country.  I realize Wheaton is a good opponet, but they finished 3rd in a very good conference that got only one bid.  Also losing to the 5th place team in the CCIW (carthage).  Who was this key player you talk of?

Again, I'll be pulling for Carroll, but ultimately I don't care who wins this game.  I was just amazed to see the quality of opponent that Carroll has played against vs. the teams Hope played against.

Please put me in my place if I have over looked some of the "quality opponents" Hope has faced.

I'd love to see the "history" of MIAA vs. MWC.  Although I'm not too sure what that proves...history isn't on the court come game time.

Please..."Enjoy Thursday" is that some kind of threat.  Of course I'm going to enjoy it!

Who was this Key player?

The key player isTim Partridge.  I believe one of the other 2 hurt players was Dan Holt.  He of the " white chocolate thunder-flyin, robinzine-cryin, teeth-shakin, glass-breakin, backboard-swaying, wham-bam, I am jam," or as he was recently referred to by a Hope poster as the "human victory cigar.

Hope played Calvin 5 times.

Why is a Ripon fan talking smack about a Carroll game?

I'm not much for smack, all I know is to get to this point in the season you have to be pretty darn good.........or a Northeast Region "powerhouse". (zing) ;)

I expect a tough competitive game Friday, and the team that plays the hardest and wants it more will win.......period.

I've watched D3 for 17 years, Hope's schedule will tell you nothing about this team, it wasn't tough that we know........but they plowed through everyone they should have and had some tough games with their rival......just like they do every year.

RiponRed34

Seriously this guy is the "key Player" missing?

12 Tim Partridge...... 27-0   373 13.8  54-117  .462  32-72   .444   8-16   .500   18  53   71  2.6  44  1  17  25  12  13  148  5.5

Just trying to liven the board.  I'm not talking "smack," mearly stating facts.  Why are you guys getting so upset?

Who was this Key player?

1. As flawed as it might be, they use the QOWI to rank teams.

2. Hope played Calvin 5 times this year and the underdog in this rivalry always seems to play up to the other team.

3. 9 of the top 10 teams in the nation, so d3hoops.com says, have lost on their home court this year.  And Hope is 10th, not fifth  ;D

We're not upset.  We think you're funny -- like the kid who wears the beanie  and black socks with shorts and thinks he's cool.   ;D

Not that it matters a lick towards Friday.........Hope vs MWC

Beloit...........0-2   last meeting 1955
Carroll.........1-1   last meeting 1963 (Carroll was CCIW)
Illinois Col....1-0   last meeting 1989
Lake Forest 20-6 last meeting 1978
Lawrence.....2-0   last meeting 1956
Monmouth....1-1   last meeting 1948
St. Norbert....1-0   last meeting 2002 (NCAA Tournament)

So Hope is 26-10  or 25-9 depending on if you count Carroll as MWC or CCIW.

You can also see a good many of the meetings occurred before a large majority of Friday's crowd was even born.

I think the MIAA and MWC have only hooked up once in NCAA play, this would be #2.   Hope v St. Norbert 2002
