Sac:  If the MIAA tournament started in 93 than there must be some Hope players that qualify for MIAA Tournament, and NCAA over 4 years.  However, I agree he (Meckes) might be the first Calvin player to play in 4 MIAA tournaments, and 4 NCAA's.  Not sure he is the first in that sub category for the entire MIAA.
Lodewyk graduated in 92 (after stuffing the ball on the final possession with Eddie D screaming NO).  Broene sat out a year.  Eddie D. liked having a roster of 12 or 13, and bringing up a fr. or two from the jv for tournament time.

Sorry to change the subject from ripONred but I'm still wondering; where was Hope's new mascot Dutch during the MIAA tournament?

Some of you guys are a bit jumpy!

Jumpyness has been known to happen around here--especially as certain teams are closing in on game day. ::) :-X  Welcome to the MIAA board at tourney time. :)

GK is right on the spelling of Mike LeFebre. I believe Mike still holds Calvin's all time three point shooting percentage record for a single season--I think at 57%.

GK is also right on Thwaites coming from Cornell. One more correct answer and GK has a trifecta! ;)

I guess that is why he is the goodknight and you are the oldknight ;)

That's a pretty good zig and zag with our handles.  8)

Just to clarify:  I am in no hurry to become an OLDknight, although I love to listen to his stories about the Kronemeyer sisters.   ::)  I think we can agree that it's prudent for a goodknight to live vicariously through the mistakes of an oldknight. ;)

Didnt WSP lose at home this year by 17

You are correct...and it was to a team that didn't even make the NCAA tourney.

Quote from: ziggy on March 08, 2007, 01:47:30 PM
wow, they must really suck!

You are correct as well.  Point is really not that good.  They played a cupcake nonconference schedule and the WIAC was down this year (only ONE team in the NCAA tourney).  They lost to Oshkosh by 17.  I think the Titans were only ranked 8th at the time...so losing at home to a team ranked lower than you is totally unacceptable.

Quote from: RiponRed34 on March 08, 2007, 03:20:15 PM
It's "unacceptable" to lose at home, but it doesn't mean you're a bad team.  Losing to a non conference opponent is never "acceptable,"...

I think the goal of every good team is to go undefeated at home.

So, if Stevens Point (#5 at the time) lost to Augustana (#9 at the time) at home, that would be unacceptable since it's a nonconference game?

;D ;) :) :P ::) 8)

I wouldn't want to change either if I were you goodknight (accept maybe the team I would be rooting for).  Anyone who gets that much vacation time down south during January and February has got to be good at something    ;)

I heard he was mascot-napped by some rowdy Calvin students, tied to the Anchor and painted maroon and gold... ;)

Seriously, there are a lot of us Hope fans who would also like to know where the heck he went.   ??? :o ???  Perhaps his ghost ship flew off and took him along...

Has anyone here mentioned that Aurora's mascot looked exactly like Calvin's mascot, except for the colors?  FDF is supposed to be posting a pic (he nearly got busted by the overzealous security at Aurora in the effort -- funny!). :P

Oh come, come now!  The guy comes in like a troll (whether he meant to or not), behaves trollishly, and then gets treated like a troll.  There's no real injustice here.  I'm all for treating newcomers politely, but IMHO newcomers should likewise enter politely -- a problem we've had with other newcomers here -- they enter like lions and then wonder why their karma takes a serious hit.

Bring on the discussion, bring on conversation, bring on good clean teasing and haranguing, no problem; but don't cry when you enter all puffed up and then get knocked back a little.

Ror, if we have misinterpreted your intentions, I for one apologize.  We don't mean to run you out of the room or out of the discussion.  But be a good guest -- I think you'll find we'll treat you with the same respect you offer, and be happy to engage in conversation with you.

I know this is a little off-topic, but here goes.  For all of you travelers coming from the east to go to UWSP, I would suggest a little traffic research in order to facilitate a smooth journey.  The Illinois Department of Transportation began the second phase of the Dan Ryan (90/94) reconstruction.  What does this mean?  Well, it means that of the original 7 lanes that were available coming into Chicago last week, now there is only 4, and all of the local traffic has been diverted into the express traffic.  It's a nightmare, especially going into the weekends I'm sure.  You can check the IDOT website as well as www.avoidtheryan.com for information.

Personally, after living in Chicago for the last few years, I would suggest taking the I-294 Tri State north towards Wisconsin until you get to I90 west which will take you all the way to Madison.  From there, hit 51 North and you should be in stevens point before you know it.  That by the way is the route to my snowmobiling second home.

Which is Interstate 39, North of Madison.  That takes you to Stevens Point.

Basically three exits when you hit Stevens Point.

The first main exit is Highway 10.  If your hotel is anywhere on Highway 10:  Getting to the gym is easy.  Take Highway 10 West (Main St.) into Stevens Point (though you may have to go EAST to your hotel, there are a couple out that way).  Turn right on Division St (which is also Business 51).  Turn right on 4th Avenue.  There is Cousins Subs, a Hardee's and Ella's Deli on that corner.  At the 2nd block, you'll pass Quandt gym on your left.  There is also an indoor pool right next to it.  Go past that and about a block down, there is a big parking lot on the right.

The 2nd exit off of Interstate 39/Highway 51, is Highway 66.  Take this left (which is also Stanley St.).  If you go past the Stevens Point airport, you're going the wrong way!  This runs you right to the parking lot I mentioned above, literally.

The 3rd exit is Business 51 (there are a lot of hotels located on this exit, so it may be yours!).  This exit curves right and loops around past Sentry Insurance and you come into Point via Business 51 the opposite way as if you did on the first exit.  You'll turn LEFT on 4th Ave and this will take you past Quandt.

Despite being on the Dan Ryan just 5 days ago, I already forgot....thanks for the reminder Chidutch.  Tri-State it is. 8)

I did some heavy reading of the Sentinel this afternoon, a few quotes really stuck with me.....

"I think we lightened up for two weeks. We lost some of our toughness and we've been working hard to get that back," Van Wieren said. "I thought we got some of it back last weekend."---very noticeable from the stands and it was very nice to see it back last weekend.  Most of the comments this week that referred to Hope playing like they did in January probably relate to this quote.

"Last year, I thought we lost the battle," Van Wieren said. "We will not lose the battle Friday night. We might not shoot the ball well, and we might turn it over once in a while, but we will not lose the battle. We will find kids who will win in battle."

"Right now, this team is playing with a different attitude (than last year)," Van Wieren said. "Part of that is that we're going on the road and there's more urgency because of that. I'm not sure we played our best two games of the season last week, but we played two games back-to-back as well as we've played two games back-to-back all year.

"We have unfinished business from last year. We didn't win the league last year, but we won the league tournament. This year, we put more emphasis on winning the league and going deeper into the NCAA tournament."
-----probably explains the hunger I saw in Hope in the early MIAA games, they just really seemed to want to win the MIAA this year.

"This is the best team we've played in the tournament. There's no doubt in my mind."

Sounds like a team that knows what they need to do......hopefully they can do it.
