Aww Sac you left out my favorite part in the article!  ;D

When Hope coach Glenn Van Wieren talked about his team's next opponent, Carroll University, he quoted from Rudyard Kipling's "The Jungle Book" to convey how tough he expects the pioneers to be. "The strength of the wolf is the pack and the strength of the pack is the wolf," Van Wieren said, quoting Kipling. "This is the best team we've played in the tournament. There's no doubt in my mind."

OH yeah I liked the very end too!  :D

Slay the wolf. Finish the business.

hahah it cracks seeing what ol GVW had to say about Carroll!

Greek Tragedy

I just copied my post from the WIAC page.

Swampgoon, among others, informed me of this:

Returned (and remaining) tickets from Washington U. for the Point game will go on sale tomorrow morning at 8 am at the box office, which is located at the University book store.  The catch is, you can't buy tickets over the phone for these (unlike the first wave of tickets that went on sale and were sold out in 90 minutes).  So, YOU MUST BE IN PERSON to buy these tickets.  Unfortunately for the Carroll and Hope fans, this makes it nearly impossible for them to get any tickets for the 2nd game.  It's unfortunate, because if I were a neutral fan, I'd want to see the other game as well.  Believe me, there aren't going to be any available at Quandt.

Tickets that were returned from Carroll and Hope will also go on sale, and must also be in person to buy, I believe, will also go on sale Friday morning at the same location.  I just hope they have different lines for folks who already have Point/Washington U. tickets who simply want to get Carroll/Hope tickets.

Anyway, HERE is an artcile from the Stevens Point Journal regarding their reasoning on a split session...

UW-Stevens Point athletic officials made a special request to the NCAA to approve the split session format due to heavy ticket demands from three of the four schools.
The proximity of Hope College, which has led Division III in attendance four straight years, and Carroll College of Waukesha to central Wisconsin is another reason for the change.
"This was done to help accomodate more of our fans," said O'Brien. "This is totally different than 2005 when the teams were from Texas, Washington and Indiana. We're expecting Hope and Carroll to bring very substantial followings."

O'Brien is asking fans with tickets to the second game to show up no earlier than 7:45 p.m. for the approximate 8:15 p.m. tip-off.

I understand their reasoning, but it doesn't sound like there will be a lot of fans from Hope and Carroll for the first game.  I called "my people" and they told me that Hope got 1200 tickets and they sold less than 300.  Carroll, on the other hand, got 400 tickets and with the deadline to buy tickets at noon today, they returned some 250.  I guess that's good news for Pointer fans that want to see the 1st game, and I encourage you to do so...it should be a heck of a game!

I know for sure that there wont be to many Hope students at the game.  :-[ This is because of Dance Marathon. It is a huge overnight fund raiser for children with cancer. A lot of the faithful Dew Crew members are involved with that so they wont be making it. At least they are missing it for a good cause. I know I projected earlier that there would be around 50 students making the bus ride...... I wasnt even close! There might be 20...... :'(

OH yeah I got my tickets for BOTH games!!!  ;D

Thanks for the quotes of GVW Sac: Personally I think GVW may have it right this time.  I also think this is a Hope team that is more focused, and ready than any Hope (men's) team in recent history.  I mentioned weeks ago that  Hope (07) has displayed a sense of urgency, and hunger like no other Hope team I recall going back to the late 80's.  No doubt the Carroll team is ready, and full of piss and vinegar, but I also remember the Hope and Calvin teams of the late 80's that followed a trail very similar to Carroll.  Calvin made the final 4 in 90, but didn't win it all.  I recall talking with Rochester's top player in 1992 after Calvin won it all.  This young man stated, as a matter of fact, Calvin was the best team in 92, and also in 90, but he said Calvin's lack experience at that level in 90 hurt them.  While the Hope players lack final 4 experience now I think they are as hungry as the Calvin guys were in 00.  It won't be easy, but this may just be Hope's year!!!! :)

p.s. FWIW I did a quick tally over the last 5 or 6 pages.  Hope poster's hold a slim 28 to 26 post lead over non-H or C posters (Old School, GS, Ripon Red etc.)  Calvin, while vanquished to a degree, comes in around 17.  As hard as it is for most Calvin fans to say this we really do want Hope to represent the MIAA well. :)

300 is maybe a little shy of what Hope took to Wittenberg last year, we'd love to have more students but you can't blame them for wanting to stay back in Holland and kick off the ol'klompen shoes and dance the night away for a great cause.

all i know is that we got 5 tickets for the 2nd game wating at the box office so that is good to watch another game to

Sac, your memory of the Calvin players from the early 90's is impressive, but I guess I shouldn't expect anything different.  Honderd and Knoester were definitely on 4 NCAA teams, in fact, Calvin went to the Sectional Finals all four years with Honderd having beaten Hope in round 2 in each of the first three years (90-92).  From your list, most of Calvin's players played on JV their Freshman year including LeFebre, Rottman and Broene.  However, Stevens played on varsity all four years and went to the NCAA's all four and Lodewyk was pulled up for the tournament run his freshman year in '90 on the first Calvin team to go to the Final Four after having played JV throughout the regular season.

I'll refrain from posting until the MIAA poster ratio gets back up to it's standard! lol.  :D

If I have anything else to say, I'll just "edit" the same post!  :) ;) ;D :P

Hope to run into some of the Hope faithful tomorrow.  As usual, I'll be wearing the NY Rangers jacket and Pointer hat (though, this time, I won't be the only one wearing one!)  In the picture, I'm the short one.  :o

Safe travels tomorrow.

I'm off to Stevens Point in the morning, good luck to the Dutchmen who face a difficult task in front of them and good luck to the Lady Knights in Mass.

Following my trip to Wisc, I'm off to Georgia for a week, hopefully I'll get a chance to post my thoughts Saturday or Sunday but this will be a quick turnaround heading South.

Best of luck, drive safe, see everyone in Wisconsin.

Darn, woke up here in St . Louis at 2:30 and adrenaline pumping so hard I might as well get up and start driving  -  will be meeting hof'rs Sac and Diehard up there at Stevens Point  -  I'm likely the only fan with two rooting interests with local Wash U and old favorite Hope.   Imagine what it will be like if I get an unexpected two wins on Friday!!!   Please get me one win so I have a team to cheer for Saturday!!!   I'll see everyone up there!!
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Don't forget to pack the clubs, sac, and don't spend too much time in the traps next week.

I know this is a little off-topic, but here goes.  For all of you travelers coming from the east to go to UWSP, I would suggest a little traffic research in order to facilitate a smooth journey.  The Illinois Department of Transportation began the second phase of the Dan Ryan (90/94) reconstruction.  What does this mean?  Well, it means that of the original 7 lanes that were available coming into Chicago last week, now there is only 4, and all of the local traffic has been diverted into the express traffic.  It's a nightmare, especially going into the weekends I'm sure.  You can check the IDOT website as well as www.avoidtheryan.com for information.

Personally, after living in Chicago for the last few years, I would suggest taking the I-294 Tri State north towards Wisconsin until you get to I90 west which will take you all the way to Madison.  From there, hit 51 North and you should be in stevens point before you know it.  That by the way is the route to my snowmobiling second home.

As somebody who has vacationed on the dunes by Little Pointe Sable/Silver Lake/Mac Woods Dune Rides one week every summer for twenty years and lives in Chicago, I will second these directions.  Stay away from the Skyway and Dan Ryan and stick with 80/94 and then 294.  There are a few oasis stops featuring Subway, Panda Express, McDonald's, as well as a pizza place with pizza by the slice and occasionally a Crispy Kreme for a delectable dessert option.  Safe travel to all.
