Through last year, the Select Bank Tournament was a "standard" tournament (winners play each other, loser play each other).  You are correct that last year was the first time these two teams had met in this tournament.   As of this year, this is now a Classic (the two MIAA teams play the two WHAC teams and then switch).

Hi everyone.  I have a few questions.  First, I noticed that there are a couple of preseason tournaments in which Calvin and Hope both play

[fist covers mouth]

Ahem.

[taps microphone twice]

Is this thing on? Thank you.

Your attention, please: The tournaments in question are not preseason tournaments. They are regular-season non-conference tournaments. The preseason ends when the regular season begins on November 16. These games will count towards the records of Calvin and Hope and the other teams that are participating.

Thank you for your time.

CCM, You did it!  :)

I've been trying to get GS here to do his pedantic duty for some time now, without success, but you come in and manage it first try! I'm humbled.  :'(

In college basketball the 'PRE-conference SEASON' tournaments are often referred to as pre-season trounaments.  It has become an accepted term in collegiate basketball.

Thank you, KnightSlappy, that is exactly how I was using the phrase.

Somehow she made it more of a pedantic pleasure for me than a pedantic duty. :D

Uh, no, it hasn't. Those games will take place during the regular season, therefore they're not preseason tournaments. Those games will count. Preseason games don't.

See, Dark Knight? I had fun pointing that out. Pleasure, not duty. :D

Okay, to make things "simpler," in the future, I will refer to these games as NCISGTDCTTTRs (Non-Conference In Season Games That Definately Count Toward The Team's Record).  Does Calvin have any "pre-season" (non-NCISGTDCTTR) games?

realist

At the risk of getting a pedantic response (either of the pleasure or duty variety)  :D CCM some of us lesser fans have used the terms exhibition games or scrimmages to cover the non-ncis..... type activities.  Yes, Calvin has played non-ncis.... type games in the past.

A simple search on ESPN.com for 'preseason tournamets' brings up many D-I pre-conference tournaments games.  So yes, it is an accepted term in college basketball.

CCM -- You have inadvertantly stepped in a pile of pooh that GS likes to remind us of each year.  Feel free to ignore it.  It's really not directed at you at all, and once you've been around for a few more years you'll grow fond of the annual reminder, however banal.   ;)

By that definition, so is "Boo-yeah!"

12 total references, over the course of two years. And these mostly refer to the exempt tournaments, such as the preseason NIT and Maui Classic and the like.

Not at all the same.

Even the exempt tournaments are very much the same.  To the best of my knowledge they count for your overall record but the tourament as a whole only counts as one game against your maximum games played count.
