Update on the show (direct from the Hope website):

College basketball fans have said the Hope-Calvin basketball rivalry is the most spirited in the nation. Next week we'll find out what ESPN thinks. As part of its Greatest College Basketball Honor Roll Series, ESPN will highlight the game's "Fiercest Rivalries". It will be aired on ESPN2 beginning at 6 a.m. ET.

An ESPN crew covered the Calvin at Hope game last February. ESPN also conducted an on-line "Fan Poll" where the Hope-Calvin rivalry received resounding support as America's best with more than 80% of the voters casting their ballot for the orange & blue/maroon & gold. The program will feature a Top Ten countdown.

It is amazing the percentage that the Hope/Calvin rivalry registered.  I wouldn't guess that people outside of Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and Wisconsin would know much about two small schools in western Michigan, let alone enough to vote ahead of the nationally known rivalries, such as Duke/NC.  That's quite impressive.

It was great to see the Calvin-Hope rivalry do so well on the ESPN web page, but I honestly think that people familiar with Calvin and Hope were the only people voting in the poll.  I know Calvin had a direct link to the poll and I suspect Hope did as well.  If you didn't have the link, it was impossible to find the poll.

Anyway, I hope ESPN does a good job with the rivalry.  I already have my VCR set.

Uh, but, yet, at the time, the article was new news.  By the time you read it, yes, there was information at the Hope site.  Perhaps you didn't mean to come of sounding snippy, but, well...

woa! no, didn't mean to come off as rude at all!  :-[

Tell me more about this TiVo, do I pronounce that Teeevo or Tivoooo,  or Tevooooooo.  Its not exactly a high-tech world around the Sac shack.

Should be an interesting show anyway...

There was no ballot stuffing, .....honest!    ;)

Not a problem -- sometimes the written word is hard to interpret, intentions-wise.  My apologies for reading into it incorrectly.   :P

I have to agree with Calvin grad, in that not too many people outside of the immediate area saw the poll.  I sure didn't and I'm not too far away.  Was there ballot stuffing? Most likely.  But, it's not like they were voting in the governor or president.  People in the area were probably encouraged to vote, a little campaigning if you would call it that, which in turn helped pad the stats.  I have a hard time believing it would beat Duke/NC in NATIONAL POLL that everybody knew about.  Even with that said,  I'm still glad they mopped up in the poll, regardless of how it was administered.  I'm always for the little guy, which in this case would be Hope and Calvin when comparing them to Duke and NC.  They get enough pub, let us small college folk get some every once in awhile.

You people know that the voting for this rivalry was as legitimate as Posednik getting voted into the MLB All-Star game this year. Matt Neal probably had his two rapscallions hitting the ESPN link over and over again on his home PC to make sure it was no. 1.

Looking forward to seeing the Spartans put up 60 pts tomorrow.

Actually, from watching the poll, at one point there were over 100,000 votes for the Hope/Calvin rivalry, which at the time was between 75 - 80 percent of the total.

ESPN then modified the poll (this is just my educated guess) to eliminate any repeat voters (probably based on IP address).  The votes for the Hope/Calvin rivalry were then below 20,000, but the percentage actually went up - indicating that the other schools were repeat voting more often.

I think there were a lot of people outside the Hope & Calvin families voting, thanks to Pat putting a link to the poll on the front page of D3Hoops!!

ESPN modified it because they were flabbergasted by the results!

Will Hope be No. 4 in Michigan in attendance next year?

Here are last year's #s. WMU isn't going anywhere, but EMU will be just as bad as last year, even with a new coach, and so will CMU, with half the team freshmen.

1. Michigan State: 14,759 per game
2. Michigan: 11,215
3. WMU: 3,999
4. EMU: 2,668
5. Hope: 2,462
6. Detroit: 2,449
7. CMU: 2,263
8. Calvin: 2,251
9. Oakland: 1,873
10. Michigan Tech: 1,834
