It's probably that I am new, but did I miss something or is it mandatory to post about off-topic, historical and sometimes untrue quips about random basketball things? I don't understand... someone fill in the new guy, please.

It's strictly voluntary, MI2A. ;)
This riff is reprised from a season or two ago, when a few clever Albion students captured the imagination of this board -- and the vigilant attention of the D3Hoops.com moderator.  Although many of those postings were highly amusing and invariably entertaining, some of them flirted with -- how shall we say it? -- vulgarity, which led to the banishment of the one-who-cannot-be-named.
For my part, I think itt's good to have some Brit students/alums back in the mix. Most of my Calvin counterparts seem to be in a rebuilding season themselves, and it's gotten awfully orange and blue in here.

This thread is so orange and blue that I am physically ill.  The Dutch are highly ranked and are preparing for a solid season only to bow out of the tournament again without a national title (the runner up banners hanging in the DeVos are cute though).  The Knights are nothing to get excited about but a 3-4 place in the MIAA would be pretty good for a team so young.  I think we can all agree that the Knights only will get better.

I am physically ill.   :P

That indeed is an understatement!

If it is so bad that it makes you sick, feel free to go away for a while... Get some R and R!

LOL!   :D

Don't blame us Orange and Blue ones -- get your (insert favorite team name here) friends to chat a bit more about your team.  Heck, we Hopesters are interested in hearing about (insert team name here).  Lots of interesting conversation could happen.  We're not stopping anything -- we just are enthusiastic about Hope basketball -- national title or no.  That's not a sin (I've checked).   ;D

It was mentioned in an earlier post about Albion not starting back until the 20th. Seems like an awefully long break to me.

A former Albion administrator mentioned to me last week Albion took a longer break to save money on heating costs.  Then they have the warmest week of the winter.  Oh well.

I have no idea if this is true or if he was trying to be funny.

sac:

The heating cost story from Albion could well be legit. My son goes to WMU and they announced in the fall that January classes would start one week later (and extend one week longer in the spring) because of the expected rise in fuel costs.

Couple interesting statistical facts.

Field Goal Percentage leaders
1.Brandon Crawford-ALB- 40-49  .816

How many of those 49 shots weren't layups?  81% thats insane.

3 point shooting leaders
1.Eric Voisin-HOP........ SR 4- 6  .667

Is this a good or bad thing?

Assist/Turnover Ratio leaders
1.Eric Voisin-HOP........    2.40

This is a good thing

Those stats are amazing, crazy and I'm-not-so-sure-what-to-think... in that order.

If Voisin isn't careful, he's going to start looking like a pretty good gaurd on paper.

And thanks for the explanation about the Albion folk  ;)

See you at the game tonight! Good luck to all teams  ;D

81.6% that has to be some sort of record or at least close to it.  Does anyone know the NCAA D-III season FG%?

Just checked the NCAA individual stats and Brandon Crawford is currently:
7th in the nation in rebounding
9th in the nation in points per game
5th in the nation in field goal percentage at 70.7% for the year.

His league average shooting percentage would put him first in the nation. The current leader is shooting 74.2%.

I was sort of surprised that he did not make D3Hoops' team of the week this week after Albion's big win over Hope and his great numbers in the Alma game.  Shooting 20-24 for the week and scoring 51 points, is really amazing.

Pat, no need to defend the players who are recognized this week.  I am sure that they all had great weeks.  He just continues to have such monster performances every week.

You mean there are others out there better than BC?  (shudder)  :-[

As to Voisin's 3-pt and assist stats, it's a good thing.  He's come through in the clutch on more than one occasion.  I know Dren disagrees, but I don't have a problem with him not being an "Overbeek."  Don't forget, he was a forward in another life...

I wonder if perhaps he wasn't nominated?  Regardless, he's got lots of honors coming to hang on the wall of his den (like MIAA POY and All-American, and who know--maybe national champion?) so I doubt he'll end up missing this one very much.  :D

Halftime score:  Hope 45 Adrian 15

Obviously, Hope is dominating in all facets of the game, but especially so on the offensive boards.  Adrian continues too turn the ball over too much--in the double digits in the first half when last announced, and continues to shoot poorly from the floor (25ish percent).  Sounds like the Bulldogs are having all sorts of trouble getting good shots against the Hope defense, as many shots have come very late in the shot clock.

On a side note, I just threw up in my mouth.  Congrats to the Dutch on a fine game.
