.....and it only took an exhibition game for you to take a swipe at Derek.

So, who's in midseason form.

hoopdreams

for those that attended the hope game last night, you saw firsthand the main difference between D1 and D3 hoops- raw athletic ability.  U-D won because they were quicker (with the ball, running down loose ones, they jumped higher even the few times hope attempted to box out, they broke the token pressure like they were on the court by themselves, and they were able to beat their defender off the dribble whenever they wanted)  In the second half, they extended the D taking away any clean looks, and hope players were not able to shoot or take it to the rack and get a shot off (carter one time with the horrendous offensive foul call, DVS getting his shot blocked, and tanis got into the paint twice-one turn around jumper off the glass, and one trip to the foul line).  My guess is that they only got 5-7 clean looks at the hoops the entire evening.  That is quickness not to be seen again, at least not in conference play.

I thought for the most most, hope played well.  Rebounding was a major problem (although I saw several players making an attempt to box), and recovering loose balls/potential turnovers.  There was absolutely no flow to the game, typical first game.

I don't think it's right to take shots at a kid, who by all acounts played hard, and was talking to the frosh-positively all night.  I know the baggage the family brings, but that shouldn't be held against the player.  He's got an edge to him, but for someone who really should be playing off guard and spotting up....

Very true about the hornets Academy. What a lot of people don't know is Kellogg for his first three years had a bad breathing/respiratory problem where he would get tired very, very quick...he couldn't play for more than three minutes without looking like Snoop Dogg running on a treadmill. Good news is he got the problem cleared up and his conditioning is like old days when he played soccer in high school. Your right thought if he gets in foul trouble, could be interesting.

I plan on making it to Hillsdale, I believe its this coming Monday. It will be nice to get a good glimpse of this years team in action and see how we look. Additionally, there is a chance I may be in Chicago next weekend so if thats the case I can imagine I will meet up with some alumni and watch some K basketball.

ok everyone...i'm out like drinking isn't allowed and I just got caught taking empty cans back

Hey Hope1.  I probably should know this, but I'm not always sure which team different posters are with--which team are you referring to when you say "your team can't compete with the hope teams?"

That is a nice story about Hope. Thanks for pointing it out. I love that MVH made a joke about how teary eyed GVW can get over the team and Hope. ;D Good memories from class with GVW.

Nice find, al; interesting article. Just one quibble. Does anyone believe--as GVW was quoted as saying--that every one of Hope's varsity players could have taken a full-ride scholarship to play somewhere else? Either Glenn was not quoted accurately  :o or he got caught up in his own hyperbole.  :o :o

In the words of his probable starter Jesse Reimink (quoted in the Holland Sentinal)...

"My dad, Ron, played for coach Glenn Van Wieren the first year Van Wieren coached. A bunch of other members of my family went to Hope, so I came here, too," Jesse said. "I didn't really want to go to Hope when I was in elementary school, but Hope was pretty much the only school that recruited me for basketball."
