Carl, with all due respect ( and I saw you play your last game at Tiger stadium)  I think its reasonable for me to call out a poor performance when I see it.  I dont know about you, but my job is based on performance, like many others.  If I dont do my job well, my butt is to the curb.

I am not blaming the refs on the Hornets loss. K had their chances to take that game and couldn't hit a big shot when needed. They were down three  with about 3 to go, and KK missed a trey that would have been huge. It was all they could do to be in the game based on what happened, and they fought their tails off to give them a chance to win. I give them all the credit in the world for what they did.

That being said, Geerlings was atrocious and should not be allowed to continue this BS.  Not sure if you were there or not, but , I believe you would agree how horrible he was.  If I was Mr. Cooper i would be down right embarrased.

Im sure if you talk with Mr. Turner or Coach May they would tell you how bad the officiating was. If they dont, their lying through their teeth.

Oh yeah,  and 27-4.

Is Albion the new Hope? Geerlings the new Cryer?

I think that a big part of Albion's numbers is that students only returned to campus this week.

Additionally, and I don't include Hope and Calvin in this, I don't put much trust in the accuracy of the attendance numbers.  I know that Albion's are often wrong, as there are so many people who don't have tickets for most games.   With the exception of Hope and Calvin, that seems to be the case for most MIAA schools.

I look for the numbers at Albion (or at least the actual number of people in the seats) to pick up over the next couple of games as students get settled back in to campus.

mascot19, I have a question.  Will there be Albion "security men" standing in front of both student sections again staring at them the whole game like last year?  Just curious.

Glad you are such a die-hard!  Good luck tomorrow....

I definitely think attendance at Albion games will improve with the campus back to full swing.  All I remember was an absolutely electric environment for the MIAA tournament and NCAA tournament games that Albion hosted last year.  I think we can expect similar environs going forward.

As for the actual reported attendance numbers, I have never put much stock in them.  I don't think anyone is actually counting.  As official as the stat sheet is, I think that is the one number that's guestimated at best.

Civic Minded: I dont understand you, you picked Albion to beat Calvin this weekend, but then you say go Calvin, beat Albion?   That comment doesnt make any sense to me at all.  Anyway last year I have to agree, the involvement during the NCAA Tournament was amazing.  I saw some great games at least year's Tournament.  I think part of the reason I guess you could say is that this extended break threw all of us of.  Most students missed about 4 conference games over break, however some still decided to catch them over break.  I know there are other people that do feel strongly about the Britons, but they havent come out in the big numbers.  I also agree that the numbers seem to be terribly misrepresented, I dont know how the average can be so low.  I know they dont record the people without tickets (students with ID's) into the total crowd.  Visually thought I can still tell there has be less amount of students going to games, which is unfortunate.   However there are some loyal fans and I am glad they have stuck with Albion all the way through.  Our President, for one you can see him at most of the games, and a lot of the faculty, and other people from the community.  Though the numbers may be down, the spirit will never die.  I love the MIAA :)

Albinomascot,  I'll be coming down for the game with my brother and another Calvin buddy.  Don't know of other students making the trip so we should be easy to spot.

albinomascot19

Well if you are coming down dont be afraid to say hey, I always like seeing other MIAA fans......I will be the guy with the purple face paint and purple Albion shirt!

All the best, and have a safe drive here!

I'm making the trip to represent for the Knights.  Remeber the last two times Calvin played at Albion?  The Knights cut down the nets both times.

Last time I saw Calvin play against Albion, I saw some guy leading the Calvin crowd, who was he.....is it superman....:P

Makes perfect sense to me - CM expects that Albion will beat Calvin, but being a Hope fan, needs Albion to lose a game to even up the race.

Having graduated from Hope and being a rabid basketball fan I thought I might add something to the attendance/non-attendance discussion.  I knew numerous people at Hope that actually could care less about the basketball team.  Some actually hated all of the press the team got.  They didn't even care when Hope played for the National title a few times, yes Calvin fans no banner.  But it seems that there were enough rabid fans like me who would get up at 6:00 am to stand in line for Hope/Calvin tickets that went on sale at 8:00 am.

Does Albion promote their teams on campus?  I know that, at Hope, there were a certain number of rallies at the beginning of the season, with giveaways, such as an autographed Shaq jersey.

Yeah, what fdf said, mascot19.  Hope fans want Albion to lose obviously since they are in first currently, outright.  If Calvin wins, there's a 3-way tie for first.

I know for Albion, the students just walk in and no one buys a ticket... so the students most likely are not counted because of free admission. I dont know if faculty is also getting in for free. But by no means does that put Albion much higher on the list, but i bet a few hundred are not getting counted.

I attended a high school BB game last night for my first ever inside look at the DeVos and all I can say is . . . WOW, what a spectacular venue for basketball. Knollcrest Fieldhouse suddenly looks 25 years older to me. DeVos is unbelievably fan friendly and its size makes it a cozy place to play and watch a game. It has all the amenites of modern arenas but without the aloofness that often comes with the very large stadiums that some major college and professional teams inhabit.  I understand that for practical reasons Hope wanted the west end zone bleacher seating to be movable but from a fan's perspective it would have been preferable to have extended the full arena effect around the stadium much like you see at a place like the Breslin.  Doing that not only would have enhanced the look but would have added a few extra seats. I think 3800 would have been about the right size for the DeVos.

The DeVos sure is nice but i'm not really jealous at all.  I like the feel of the Fieldhouse and I think it can get a lot louder.
