I hate point this out and go against the grain here, but I wasn't terribly impressed with Marcus' play down low.  I think he was over matched by the Olivet defense and certainly the rest of the Hope team wasn't rebounding well.  I believe they played terribly in the low post and Olivet certainly played an excellent second half.

Congratulations to GVW

Did anyone else think that Olivet's #22, Jay Cooper I believe, need to play with Shoulder pads and a helmet?  He wasn't exactly playing a clean game he was pretty rough with his fouls.

He definitely is a physical player - in fact someone said to me during the game that maybe he belonged on the wrestling team.

Stinger:  Thanks for the info on the K win over Albion.  As Sac pointed out it just isn't an everyday thing when you can score like that on one of Turner's teams.  Great win for the Hornets.  (cost me 2 points).
I am surprised some of you "veteran Hope posters"  let Stinger punch your buttons so easily.  :P

This video appeard on Sportscenter last night, not sure if its on today.  Its from Paradise, MI and Whitefish Township one of my favorite places in the State and somewhere I've made a point to visit every year at least once for several years now.  If you've been to Tahquemenon, you've likely been to Paradise.  Next time I go, I'm takeing a sack of cans.

Hope is very physical.  If you don't respond Hope will bury you.

I find it interesting that number of posts about this topic has more than doubled thanks to Stinger's post.  Sometimes is best to just ignore the ignorant  :P  :-*

I think that's a pretty acurate statement.  This team has to be one of the more physical Hope teams in quite a few years.

Marcus struggled early on especially. It seemed as though he got kind of heady after a couple missed shots and a few missed free throws. He really let it get to his head. Maybe half way threw the first he was finally able to shake it off. I thought that Olivet played him very tough and they did not give him many easy baskets. I would say that I am impressed by Marcus' perseverance by continuing to work the inside and over coming some early struggles. MVH could have easily had over 20 in this game. It was kind of a sloppy game for him but I think he worked very hard. I am sure he will have another challenge come wednesday night!

I thought it was a nice story, I've always wondered how some of those schools survive up there.  If you look closely at the video you can see 2 unique things about the gym. 1) the first is obviously how small it is, with the FT circles touching the midcourt circle, and 2) if you look close you can see the folding chairs on the sidelines are actually so close the feet of the fans are actually on the playing court itself.

I read an online article in the Free Press last fall and it mentioned the team is a co-ed team, not something I remember them mentioning in the video.

One of the things that stood out in person at the Olivet game was how hard the Comets crashed the glass, especially on the offensive end.  For large portions of the game it looked like Hope was getting killed on the boards.

Yet the boxscore has the rebounding 37-36 to Olivet with both teams getting almost an equal number of offensive boards 15-12.  Either Hope turned it around in the 2nd half which went unnoticed or the rebounding edge to Olivet was nowhere near as bad as it seemed in person.  I'm going to assume since Olivet shot 60% there weren't many offensive boards for the Comets in the 2nd half.

That was the first thing that surprised me when I saw the boxscore, almost as much as the relatively small number of turnovers from Wed's first half with Albion, where both teams looked like they had 15 turnovers apiece.  Strange.

Also something that wasn't mentioned, this was only Hope's 2nd road game of the season on their opponents floor.  Cornerstone was the other and that could hardly be called a hostile place.  Olivet wasn't either but it was tougher than it usually is.  I think the road in the MIAA is just going to be tough.

Looks like Paradise will be prepared if they ever have to play at Hickory High School

Nice roundup of the NCAA convention doings in the DailyDose today.  Good read about a couple key D3 issues.

If a quarter of the consumers had just donated their beer money directly to the school they could have raised 20x that amount...

Good story though.
