Interestinng tidbit that the Hope radio guys brought up this week:

Albion @ Hope February 4

Wooster @ Wittenberg February 4

What's Pat going to do with that Saturday?

Barring intervening defeats, that's a pretty easy call.  Witt-Woo would be #1 vs #2; this week Hope will be #3 or #4, I'll project Albion as #6-#8 - a heckuva game, but NOT #1 vs #2!

I'll make it even easier:
Albion at Hope is at 3pm
Wooster at Wittenberg is at 7:30pm

All Pat will need is a chartered plane and clearance for a Holland-Springfield flight plan at about 5pm!  ;)

Hmmm.  Holland-Springfield.  That't the name of the Toledo-area high school that my siblings went to.  Small world!  :D

Crap. Promised my daughter a trip that weekend to colonial Williamsburg and was going to use the trip to see Randolph-Macon at Virginia Wesleyan.

Promises to daughters out-rank even #1 vs #2 - that oughta be a pretty good game too!  :)

Not only will Caleb TURN INTO the best PG in the MIAA, he may be the best by the end of THIS YEAR.  There isn't a PG in the conference that has a decided advantage over him.  He handles the ball well, shows great poise, has good size (I always thought he had size advantage not disadvantage he is 6-2 most in the MIAA are 5-9 to 6-0) and shoots very very well.  His defense is suspect at times but KVS stays on his case about it and he has improved considerably throughout the year.

Perhaps my wife didn't tell her what weekend we'd be taking said day trip. :)

I just looked at the player of the week nominations and I didn't see Mr. Crawford's name.  It looks like all you have to do is play a little defense.

Play a little defense, and hope the refs give you the calls down the stretch, and then you are golden.   Have a question for everyone on this board:  Since the officiating is so terrible in the MIAA, is there any way that there could be new refs brought in?  Each and every game I have been to, the refs have just done a horrific job.  I am not trying to make excuses as to why a team lost, but it has an affect on a game (the final outcome).  Isn't there such thing as officiating school, where referees learn how to call games.  Certain aspects play a part in a game, for instance, when to call a foul, and when not to call a foul, and also who to award the possession to, and who not to (E.g. the ball goes off a defender, however the other team is awarded possession).  Each extra possession a team gets Can be a chance for another score.  I know no game can be played over, but I just think its outrageous when year after year there are terrible calls being made.

ziggy

calls down the stretch?  Perhaps you were oblivious to the foul advantage Albion, and particularly their big men, had all game.

Stinger,

Sorry for the delay in replying to your post. I was laughing so hard at your last one my chair fell backwards and I smashed my head on the file cabinet. I needed 7 staples to close the wound.

You must be proud of yourself having a job where performance is necessary. I have often heard of jobs like that, but like Bigfoot I have yet to actually see one.  ;)

Saying that someone performed badly, and calling for someone to be fired are two different things. I have no problem with pointing out bad performances, but calling for people to be fired is a different matter.

That is 3 wins in a row for Calvin over Albion, and I believe all 3 have been at Kresge.

Better go to Vegas and bet on the Tigers winning the World Series. They just signed the top free agent Juan Gonzalez. Look for him to challenge the HR record in the brand new ballpark. He is a tough player who will play through any injury no matter how serious it is. This should be a great year for the Tigers.

First, the MIAA has gone through a terrific amount of turnover in the officiating department the last couple years.  Some of those guys I don't recognize.

Second, I don't remember too many complaints about the officiating from you after Albion beat Hope.  :-\  Ask FDF about the moving screen calls.

Wasn't it a stubbed toe that kept him out of a few games?

On the note of officiating, this past Saturday Hope/Alma got one of the all-time classic calls.  Charge/block in the lane and thats exactly how they called it.......one guy calls charge, the other block simultaneously, after a brief moment of staring at each other........the guy with the worst view over rules.  It was a beauty.

Actually in general I've thought the refs have been good this year, they've let the kids play and thats all you want really.

......of course Hope is 16-1, that'll make any officiating look good. ;D

That takes some guts to make a complaint like that.  Yeah Albion lost but they had the foul numbers in their favor, even after having to foul in the late game situation.  Just own up to getting beat.  Hope fans did it, Calvin fans did it, Albion fan is not.

Well I'll tell  ya ziggy, the last few games since the Albion/Hope have opened my eyes to just how well  Albion played that night.

Motivation and confidence can go a long way.  Hope never had a chance that night.

Question, did Calvin have trouble gaurding Bailey or did they keep him under wraps?  Bailey torched Hope with the dribble drive and dish.

ziggy

Bailey was much more effective in the first half than in the second.  Bailey did most of his damage with his shot, which was failing early.  Albion looked strong early on the dribble drive kick out and the backdoor cut but seemed to move away from.  Calvin did a better job in the second half with their on the ball defense as the Albion point guards faced pressure as soon as they crossed center court.

KnightSlappy

Bailey was under wraps all game long.  He had a few threes I think but he never seemed like a huge threat.  I think the Calvin defense frustrated him, as he turned the ball over 5 times.

Here is your stat for the game:

Calvin bench points: 26
Albion bench points: 7
