IMHO  If I were voting in the poll the fact Hope struggled to beat a 9-6 Calvin team makes it easier for me to move someone ahead of them.  Perhaps staying number 5 is the most realistic expectation. :)  Calvin beating Wash U in an early season game is at most an interesting fact, but not overly relevant.
Thinking about Home games in the NCAA tournament is getting way ahead of thingss.  How many people predicted Hope would go 14-0 in the MIAA?  How many people feel it will happen now? :)
I know beating Calvin is a heady wine, but the last several weeks have exposed some potential problems that Hope might face playing higher quality opponents. ;)

NOT LOOKING AHEAD...please folks...I'm not.
JUST ASKING
How will it work if the Hope women and men finish at the top of their Regions and hosting?
Has the rules changed about both being allowed to host...etc?
I know the women's final four is at Hope this year.
Just want to know what would happen.
Sac, any help would be appreciated?

What Sac posted earlier is still true -- men get priority in even round years for the first weekend, women for the second weekend.

Hypothetically, of course.  ;)
If there is one thing I've learned from this board it's this: There's more than one way to split a hair.

1. Rochester- one loss in OT on the road, they kept the number two team last week after a close loss, mght happen again this week.

2. Wash U.- Well played game Sunday against a quality opponent moves them ahead of...

3. Amherst- Florida Memorial loss keeps them out of 2.

4. Mass-Dartmouth- undefeated, deserve this minimally.

5. Hope- We didn't watch the fifth best team in the country Saturday, but when they play to their potential (Wheaton) they can beat anybody.

I have no problem leaving Hope at 5 - but I also think that if the Calvin team that played Hope on Saturday had showed up for the rest of their games, they wouldn't be 9-7

Nothing like a good ole Hope vs. Calvin basketball game to get this board a bit more spirited!  :)

Do you know how long it has taken me to go through the many pages just to catch up after being out of town for a few days??

Welcome back everyone!

This is really a big week for Adrian.  If they play two solid games, they could get some momentum going into the second half of the conference schedule.  These are two winnable games, and the schedule gets tough after that, but many of the tough second half games are at home.  They know they can beat anyone in the league, but it's also clear that if they don't show up, anyone can beat them.  It's a great opportunity, and they'd be well advised to seize it.

Even as a Calvin fan, I think it was very appropriate for the Hope fans to storm the court following their victory this past Saturday.  Anytime you can defeat a more talented team, a rushing of the floor is in order.

Already looking forward to February 20.  Even more so, looking forward to March 1.  You ain't seen nothin yet!

Why so confident?  Because there were two distinct things I observed about Hope.
1) positive...MVH was awesome and is a force to be reckoned with!
2) negative...your guards are too slow!
It will be easier for Calvin to learn to defend MVH than it will be for your guards to get quicker.

Like last year, Hope hosts MIAA tournament and Calvin (a team that plays it's best in February) wins it.

It seems as though wizardry is aptly named, as he's working some magic with the facts right now.

I'll throw my hat in with the wizard. I think Calvin takes the game on Saturday if they play better in the last 2 minutes. That was a pretty poor sequence of events for Calvin (with the exception of the Mantel dunk play), which surprised me coming from a KVS team. You can rest assured that there will be more than a little bit of practice time getting spent getting better at that in the near future. The Klein steal and allowing two Wolfe layups (as described by the box score) inside of 2:30 were unexcusable. Wolfe is a good free throw shooter, but make him earn it. There's a fair chance he only gets 3 points instead of 4 with the two lay-ups, and that's a different ball game with 12 seconds left if you're down 2 instead of 3. Also, the last play was semi-ridiculous in my opinion. You can get a lot better with 12 seconds left after inbounding the ball. Let's leave magical junk 3-pointers to Winkle.

I'm not necessarily siding with the whole guard quickness argument as quickness is not all that makes a guard, but I will say I like Calvin's chances in the MIAA tournament now seeing this first clash.

Also, I actually feel more relaxed now then I did going into the game - the pressure is off. My (insert synonym for h*pe here) is that the Knights feel the same way too - they can loosen up and play better now that the colossal expectations of winning the league and beating the arch-rival are all out of the way. Hope on the other hand gets to shoulder all that pressure and try to handle it game in and game out all the way to the Dance, along with any BW's on the way.
