AlwaysHope, wizardry, oldknight.......thanks for sharing thats good stuff.

I second Sac's comment.  I only mentioned Bill De Horn because he was the only player I saw that even came close to keeping up with Floyd Brady.  Thanks OK for filling in the details of that Hope/Calvin game.  I remember we won, but details are sort of hazy.  I did recall Bill being a head case.  The criteria I was using for a top 5 player all-time in the MIAA would be MVP for 2 years.

Congrats Aaron Winkle for the d3hoops all decade team. Yes it's only the honorable mention team but still in the top 25 players in all of d3 for the past decade.  Quite an honor and well deserved for the two time MIAA MVP and the unquestionable leader of the MIAA's only nat'l title team in the last decade.

I love KVS's quote that Winkle was "Almost a little 'Dennis Rodman' like".  I'm just glad this only refers to his rebounding sense!

What time is the MIAA championship game usually at?  3? 7?

The schedule has "TBA" next to the semis and finals dates, but usually it's around 7:30 pm.

There seems to be alot of talk here about how Hope will handle hosting both the men's and women's MIAA tourney games (and NCAA tourney games, but I won't touch on that now).  When I got to the women's game on Saturday, there were even forms for the season tix holders and parents to fill out requesting MIAA tourney tix--all the way thru Saturday, March 1.  While I'm sure the women will be hosting games thru the conf. finals (does anyone honestly think they won't win at least 2 of the last 4 games?), it's not a done deal for the men.

One scenario:

If Hope (Heaven forbid) loses to Calvin and Calvin loses to Albion--and those 3 win their other remaining games--Hope and Albion will be tied for 1st and Calvin will be in 3rd.  The tie breaker will go to Albion based on the 2 team's records against the 3rd place team.  Albion hosts Friday and Saturday.

There's alot that's good about planning ahead, so I don't think it's out of line for Hope's ticket sales staff to take the steps they have.  But I'd warn the Dutch faithful not to put all of our eggs in one basket, or count our chickens, or some other poultry cliche'.  There is still work to be done.

This Wednesday, Hope travels to Adrian.  I actually have had a change of heart about this game.  I was a bit apprehensive, but I've gained some confidence in Hope's chances in this road game.  Adrian recently has lost at home to 4th place TriState, and lost at Calvin in a game featuring a 2nd half performance by Calvin that KVS called "listless".  IMHO, Hope needs to do what they've been doing this season and just avoid the kind of poor shooting that plagued them at Albion.

The wildcard will be Ryan Klein.  If he's back to full strength by gametime, he may have the drive to prove it, and turn in another performance like he had against Adrian last month.  If not, I'm sure another starter or two will step up and dominate the scoring.  (I love it that I can leave that open to any of the 5 starters.  :) ).

As for the starters logging so many minutes...fine.  So be it.  Whatever wins the game.  In the end, it makes the starters tougher by having to play thru pain and fatigue.  They're young and in shape, and can bounce back better than most of us can even remember being able to.  The bench will get their minutes when their coach feels it's appropriate, and we've seen some very nice individual performances from some of them lately.  The kids are alright.

One other scenario would be for Calvin to beat Albion and Hope leaving a tie between Hope and Calvin.........then we get to dust off the magic Semi-Final hosting coin. ::)

At current there are no tie-breakers Hope could win vs Albion or Calvin......unless we get some sort of 2 week free for all and a bunch of teams start beating each other.  As it is its very peculiar to have the conference leader holding no tie-breakers.

This scenario was running thru my mind, but I really didn't want to go there.  I didn't figure it out all the way thru, but that would be a very peculiar situation for Hope to find themselves in.  Part of me is saying thanks for figuring it out the rest of the way, and part is saying, "ignorance was bilss, man!"   :)

Indeed -- I hope that "only" honorable mention is not really seen as that way. In fact, I toyed with calling it Fifth Team instead but I wasn't sure that would be better.

If(big if) Calvin won out, and tied with Hope for the MIAA first place with two losses, I thought it first goes by head to head, and then since that would be a tie, it goes by margin of victory against each other, meaning Calvin would have to beat Hope by more than 3 to have the tourney in GR.  Maybe I'm wrong...

I don't know if this is the "famous" shot, I seem to recall more defenders there, but I cannot recall to many 3 point shooters with that much elevation.

Probably one of my most vivid memories of Aaron was his near miss game winner in Holland as a Freshman in the 1997 MIAA Championship game.  It was about a 16 foot jumper just off to the side of the lane and it looked good all the way right up untill it rimmed out.  I happened to be sitting on the stage that day and had front row seats to the mad scramble for the rebound and the 2 or 3 tip attempts that followed.

That was probably the best MIAA Championship game I can recall, although 2007 certainly should be in that conversation.

Yep, that is that shot.

So the viewer can't see how off balance to the left he was, and cannot see the ball bank off the glass and roll around the rim and in.   :-\

Was there a video clip of that shot online once upon a time? I seem to remember seeing it, but not sure how I would have.

Care to give a few more words of explanation on which shot/what the significance of this shot was?  I'm not clued into MIAA history to get the reference. Thanks!

It was a last second 3 at the end of regulation, that tied the 2000 Hope/Calvin game played at Calvin that the Knights ended up winning in overtime  82-80.

Other than Michael Thomas' shot I still haven't seen to beat John Carroll, its probably the most ridiculous shot I've seen go in, let alone in a last second shot kind of way.
