Why are Hope's games against Wheaton and Carthage listed as "in region" games while the same games for Calvin are not?

About two miles  :'(

Calvin is out of the 200 mile radius for both, which would have made an out-of-region team (Midwest vs Great Lakes region) in in-region team. It misses Calvin-Wheaton by a very very small margin. We are still working on the whole shifting of the earth's crust issue, to make it a little shorter.  ;)

Carthage has to be real close to not counting for Hope. A zip code to zip code on map quest has them at 213+.

Yeah... I can't figure out how that works??? when I put in the mail addresses for both it went out to 217. Maybe it is from arena to arena?

April, do you know why it works?

It's worth noting that Wednesday night's Calvin win was the 200th for Coach Kevin VandeStreek, whose record now stands at 200-72 as he moves through his 10th season as the head coach for the Knights.
Congrats to KVS, who joins his predecessor Ed Douma as the only Calvin coaches in the 200 win club.  VandeStreek is a fine man and a remarkable coach -- and the results he's gotten in the past couple of years are nothing short of astonishing when you compare Calvin's talent and depth to, say, the school to the West.
Also of note: Andy Draayer hit four three-pointers  tonight and becomes the all-time Calvin leader in long-distance sharpshooting.  He passed Chris Knoester tonight and now has 189 three-pointers in his Calvin career.

The NCAA uses the Microsoft mapping software (Streets and Trips?), not Mapquest, like everyone else in the world!  Calvin is 202 to Wheaton by that calculation (though about 198 according to everyone who has actually driven it!).

I thought that Hope-Carthage was out of region by any measure; an error perhaps?

Well, it has to do with the shortest possible distace... Pat posted the exact route earlier this year, so it's probably in the posts, way, way back in December. The route is something that no one would ever take, and the free mapping systems would never give, cause they're usually based on time, but, it IS shorter, and that's what the NCAA chooses to goes by.

Whats silly is, if I get a tall ladder I can practically see Carthage on a clear day.

Nice job Dutchmen, question for anyone in attendance.......why did Marcus VanderHeide only play 18 minutes?

Earlier this week the conversation was about good/bad officiating.  Its a tough gig and I wouldn't want to do it.  Anyone who thinks its any better at the D1 level need only take a look of two things......1) the boxscore from UM/MSU where UM shoots 24 more FT's than MSU  2) a replay of the "foul" on Graham Brown for whiffing at Paul Davis from 2 feet away while Davis falls all over himself.  It ain't any better anywhere else either, just gotta play through it.

Also want to say it was a great night in Crisler and restored a little of my faith in D1 basketball.  Great game, awesome crowd......it actually had a nice small college atmosphere about it.  Very special night for my brother and I.

D1 is certainly much smoother in many ways and of course the athletes are incredible.  But players are very lazy with the ball and defenders take few chances and play pretty much straight up.  I felt like I was watching the same team at both ends of the floor, they both run the same  stuff.

If you ever get the chance you have to stand inside Michigan Stadium at night with almost no one around.  Very few things will make you feel small and give you chills like that.

Maybe the NCAA should incorporate the Muskegon-Milwaukee ferry into Streets & Trips? I'm sure the lake isn't *that* frozen yet...

Two quick fouls in the first half, followed by an early 3rd one in the beginning of the second half limited him. He really lit it up upon his return midway through the second half, and was the main reason the Dutchmen extended the lead to over 20 (with two "and 1's" and a 3pointer on consecutive shot attempts).

Also, Steve Cramer had a monster game. He seemed to declare early on that it was his night, and he'd do all he could to man the helm when Marcus wasn't around. And apparently, he had a baseline dunk in halfcourt offense (not on a breakaway!) Gotta see the replay at the Hoops luncheon on Monday!

I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it. If there was a Warm Fuzzy wing to the Supersweetness Hall, this would no doubt be a featured attraction!

Nice fan support last night at Tri-State.  Fans were solid for much of the game, even when Hope had pulled away.  Good win for the Dutch and Dutchmen!  Like the saying goes, live by the three or die by the three, so Tri-State goes.  They had little inside penetration and were forced much of the night to shoot from behind the arc.

Sac, Did you go down onto the field, and perhaps up into the tunnel?  In the past, they haven't had much of a problem with folks doing that.  It's an awesome experience, walking down the tunnel from where the locker rooms are.  Standing at the locker rooms, you can hardly see the field, and it's a steep descent to field level.  Then, you get down to field level, and come to the end of the tunnel, and the view of the stadium is absolutely breathtaking.  I can't imagine how it would be with 110,000 in there.

For displays to be added to the SuperSweetness Hall of Fame, all board members must be in favor of adding it. I know of one particular board member who would certainly veto anything involving Michigan Stadium.

Standing at midfield or anywhere on the field, it really isn't that big. Sure they cram a lot of people in there, but it doesn't get that loud either.

Devossed, The SuperSweetness Hall of Fame does have  a picture of one KresgeKrazy  having his picture taken on the sidelines while getting the phone number of a Michigan Cheerleader about 20 minutes before Kickoff. That was the only thing SuperSweet about that day. That picture is blown up and framed on one of the walls in the board room.

As long as she wasn't a heifer, I'm OK with that display.

Good win for the Baby Knights.  I would like to pat myself on the back for being 4-0 on last nights games.
