It has gotten them to the last four post-seasons,

With a mostly veteran team coming back and an early season win over Wash U., I thought the 8-year cycle might have a good chance to continue, but it doesn't look good.

I know KVS has a NC and has consistently gotten to the post-season, but I haven't been impressed with Calvin on either side of the ball this year, particularly on offense.

At the beginning to the season I predicted Calvin would win the MIAA. I thought Hope might give them a run but in my opinion Calvin was the early and strong favorite. After they beat Wash U. I was sure they could have incredible season and then...?

I can't explain it but I agree with thealmascots. The post game interview "we just didn't come to play" has to be getting old this year. I am really surprised we haven't seen anyone step up and take hold up on the East Beltline.

Hey, maybe there's a silver lining somewhere:

Calvin-59

Hope – 35

(Tonight's score minus the points of the seniors from both teams)

If Hope isn't allowed to replace those seniors on the floor next year and has has to play with less than five, I am guaranteeing a Calvin sweep in 08-09!

And if Reimink gets sick at the game next year and can't play, the score is Calvin 59, Hope 10, setting a new Rivalry record for futility!

A couple of observations from last night:

-+-veragrace mentioned to me during introductions that Hope looked serious--like they had their minds set on the jobs they needed to do last night.  That didn't seem to be there in the Calvin players's countenance.

-+-There were times during the game that I looked over at KVS and then at GVW.  Every time KVS was sitting hunched over like he was constipated I mean contemplative, while GVW was up pacing the sidelines, directing the players on the court or discussing something with someone on the bench.

Hope, as a whole team,  has had the kind of passion and determination this year to maximize its talents and come through the season (with one more to go) ahead of our expectations.  Calvin has lacked the same, and it shows in its results.

He has to pace the sidelines...b/c there aren't any seats left on the bench.

:D :D :D

Last night there should have been one--no Holt.  But my comment was to say that he looked more engaged in the action than his counterpart.  Or maybe that his counterpart looked somewhat disengaged.

Or constipated... that's what you said right?  ;D Maybe he needed to ... eh... "engage"

Easy guys.

I'm sure Calvin prepared for alot of things for last nights games.........I'm pretty sure being down 14, 7 minutes in and down 28 at halftime was not on the list.

Sorry...we kind of went off on a tangent there.  Just a wordplay thing.  No offense.  I don't want to be disingenuous.

Bulldogalum -

Interesting stat and observation.

Unfortunately, I don't think the Bulldogs have "several weeks" or "several games" left in them.

trying to be optimistic here.  Several games certainly isn't a stretch, since they'd only have to win next wednesday to guarantee a third game.  Several weeks?  If they get hot, who knows.  They can compete with anyone in this league.

The really strange thing is Calvin had it all together for the Wash U game, and for the most part it just hasn't shown up either in the players or coaches much since than.  Calvin just hasn't handled adversity well this year.

I also understand it was a record crowd at the DeVos tonight: 3603.

My information packet on the Dick says it was designed to seat 3,400 for athletic events.  How did they get 3,603 in there?  Are they counting the coaching staff in those numbers now?

I thought last nights game was full but not THAT full. It seemed like the game against Albion a couple years ago had a higher attendance than last night. I remember there were a few rows of students standing behind the student section. That game Hope avenged its earlier loss to them by winning  74-55. I really think that game had more people at it. but I guess the numbers dont lie.... Dick knows best

Dutch_Man, you would be correct.  There were more people at the Albion game a couple of years ago --we had the same conversation last night with someone who would actually, verifiably know.  Seems there was, um, ah, um, a slight miscalculation in last night's numbers, for unknown reasons.  Not sure what happened, but I have it on good authority that there were not quite that many people there.  Typo perhaps.

One sad note from last night -- senior Dan Holt has the virus that Klein had, and was not only not suited up last night, but was not in the building.  Hate to see that happen to a senior in their last opportunity to play in The Rivalry on their home court.  No, he wouldn't have seen a lot of minutes, but that's hardly the point.  I can't imagine how hard it must have been to have to watch the game from home.

Hey, don't jump too quickly. Calvin does like playing in Holland lately. The third time could be the charm against Albion in the semis.  ;)
