One sad note from last night -- senior Dan Holt has the virus that Klein had, and was not only not suited up last night, but was not in the building.  Hate to see that happen to a senior in their last opportunity to play in The Rivalry on their home court.  No, he wouldn't have seen a lot of minutes, but that's hardly the point.  I can't imagine how hard it must have been to have to watch the game from home.

Hey, don't jump too quickly. Calvin does like playing in Holland lately. The third time could be the charm against Albion in the semis.  ;)

My bad.  Meant regular season in my head, but didn't type it.  Or, I blocked the possibility from my mind.   :)

This post is going to appear in both the men's and women's site because... one of highlights of this season for me regarding both Hope teams is that neither team is dependant on one player. It has truly been a team effort. Historically the teams have turned to player "A" during those tight, tense moments and in the past you can just hear the words from people who are thinking, "Give it to "Player A", give it to "Player A." But this year, player "A" could be any starter or someone from the "Second wave." People have alluded to this thought in earlier posts, but it was once again apparent yesterday as I watched the ladies play against "K".  Coach Morehouse commented that this game was the best 40 minutes played by the "entire" team - which includes all "Three waves!" Reading the reports from the men's game, and looking at the stats, not as many players played in the game, but one of the bright spots of the evening was Brandon Bosch, a player who has been giving his all during the season, patiently waiting for his chance to help out the team. And yesterday, he did just that. So as the saying goes, there's no "I" in the word "Team!"

It was missed, but Tony Benford of Tri-State passed the 1000 career point mark back on Jan. 26 vs Albion.  Congrats to Tony.

With 1132 pts and scoring over 400 for the past 2 seasons he seems likely to reach a career point total north of 1500.

I didn't realize points scored in practice counted. ;)

Alright Hope/Calvin fans, let's play a game :)

Pretend you are your teams coach. You get to chose ONE player from the opposing team to ride the pine pony the next time you play your rival. Who would it be?

Assumptions:

They play one more time this year.
All current rostered players are eligible for choosing.

This may seem easy,  but it's more difficult than it seems :)

Caleb Veldhouse - we've proven we can shut down Griffin, and that Mantel can have a good/great game and Hope still wins (last game last year, and Wed).  Caleb seems to create more problems than anyone else.

If I were KVS I really would want my team to beat Hope with all it's players healthy and playing.  Why?  Just to prove to my players, and myself that we can beat the best they have. ;)

In your shoes, I would say the same thing.  Lack of team confidence seems to be a serious problem for the Knights.

But give us your pick anyway - just for fun

Realist: you're living up to your name.   ;)  Just for the sake of the game, who would you choose and why?  Enquiring minds want to know!   :)

My first thought was Veldhouse, for the reasons FDF stated.  Then I took the angle that maybe Caleb's game was only as good on Wednesday night as it was after Mantel and Engelsma proved they could score efficiently down low.  So, sit Mantel, right?  Not so fast...in my recollection, Engelsma had more athletic moves in the post than Mantel, and Mantel seemed to score best when there was another legit scoring threat in the post with him.

So for me it comes down to this:  Sit Engelsma, thereby limiting Mantel's effectiveness in the post, and allowing Hope's perimiter defenders to stay with their assignments, and occasionally offer help when the ball does go in to Mantel.
If there is one thing I've learned from this board it's this: There's more than one way to split a hair.

sorry fixed it, kinda late when I came across that one.

Okay.  MVH.  He is key to making many things happen for Hope.  Not the least of which is he requires lots of defensive attention from Calvin.  Not to mention he is one of the finalist for MVP this year.

Caleb Veldhouse also crossed the 1000 point mark, about 244 points ago.  That would have been on Jan 11 vs Adrian.  Congrats to Caleb.

Caleb has a shot at 4 straight 400 point seasons next year.

I think my choice would have to end up being Veldhouse when it comes down to it, but thought I should mention that just because we did a great job frustrating Griffin on Wednesday, he is not out of the running in this question.

Veldehouse for sure, nobody else on Calvin really scares me, he makes that team work because everything runs through him. Griffen can be stopped by a good defender playing a great game.
