Not many Albion tickets have been sold for tonight, which seems weird.  Some big event in Albion tonight that is keeping folks at home?

I think the thought process is, why travel all the way to Holland to watch the Brits lose?  After all, I think all of us on this board know how hard it is to beat a team three times in a season  ;)

I don't believe that information is available pre-game.  They do this for the same reason the president's schedule is kept secret - to avoid snipers.

He'd call a foul before anyone could get the shot off anyway.

Can anyone explain why the names of officials are made public?  I don't see any good coming from publishing them.  You cant really quantify much from the game stats about the officials (don't get any idea Sac or any of the other stat obsessed posters.  ;D )

It only leads to people like us whining about.

Interesting question SKOT.  I would guess that their names are included as part of the official stats, since they are officially part of the game.  (sorry for the really bad double pun - I swear it was totally unintentional)

I was just posing the question on behalf of Calvin's equipment manager because if Geerlings is officiating then there won't be any reason for him to bring Mantel's uniform along and have him suit up tonight.  Last time those two were on the floor together Geerlings called 4 quick fouls on Mantel and virtually kept  him out of the contest.

I remember about a year ago or so somebody came on here and gave every ref in the MIAA a letter grade.  I have no clue how the heck that person knew so much about each ref's quality of reffing, but I found it quite funny that the poster did this.

When you've watched enough games, you begin to get a pretty accurate feel for the individual refs and what they are most likely to call.  One likes to call a charge, and that's about all he'll call (regardless of what's actually happening).  One is obsessed with traveling, etc.  It can be funny, or just frustrating.  Some are actually good (well, comparatively not bad, maybe?).  We have our favorites and those we loathe.   ;D  Ah well, playing above them is still the best option. 8)

If Albion wins tonight...and then they lose to Hope or Adrian in the final....what percentage are their chances to get a Pool C?
I hope this isn't ALSO off topic and need to be in the Pool C board...b/c I'd like to know what MIAA fans think?
I personally think that if they get past Calvin and then lose to Hope in a "close enough game" they will get in. Obviously if they win tonight and then lose to Adrian there is no shot b/c it would be ADRIAN "AC" and Hope getting the Pool C.
We all agree that Calvin needs the "AC" I'm assuming.

Actually, I don't see anything wrong with it.  We all realize that officials are human and that any of them (including those of us who might officiate in some sport) make mistakes and miss calls or make calls that cause fans to whine, complain and/or just plain disagree with.  And all of us as fans have "gone overboard" at some time or another in the latter aspects with respect to officials.  That's just the way it is.  However, I personally feel that officials still have to be held accountable, for example, in making wrong calls or not making calls that pertain to safety issues (severe, rough play with anger and intent to hurt, not enforcing equipment rules, etc., etc.) and this has indeed happened in recent years in MIAA sports although perhaps pertains more to football and hockey.  So I see nothing wrong with having officials' names being made public in the box score, or legit discussion as to which officiating crews are better than others, etc.  The intent is to hopefully make sure that the best officials are chosen for whatever sport is being played.  One of the problematic factors as I see it is two fold 1) in recent years, we haven't had enough young people coming into the field and to gain the experience to be good/great officials at the upper levels - at least not in the #'s of people who joined in years "way back when" and 2) apathy among officials for not enforcing rules they should or perhaps taking a rather "cavalier" attitude about their own officiating.  Then, of course, you have the officials who have their tendencies as goknights68 has said, and sometimes the more that fans start hounding them/complaining, the more they are going to make such calls.  Certainly, we want our officials to do the right thing, however.

Yet, I agree with goknights68 when he says "the best option being...playing above that" :) ;D.  Sometimes, though, it is hard - but we all need to remember that..."it's just a game" ;D

GO BRITS!

I think Albion has to win tonight to have any chance at a Pool C bid. Pabegg's last posting had Albion as the 16th Pool C bid. They fall behind Penn State-Behrend in the official GL rankings and I think it is rather universally felt on the Pool C board that PSU-Behrend has no chance a Pool C should it lose in the AMCC tourney. So if that is right then Albion is in real trouble.

It all depends on what happens elsewhere but if the teams above them in the GL region win their conference tourneys except the loser of Heidelberg and Capital in the OAC then they are the second team on the GL board and I think they sneak in.

Winning tonight is critical though.
