Can you explain to me how publicizing names of officials will hold them more accountable?  I just can't follow your logic.  Accountability comes from Referee Assessors and Heads of Officiating, not from public scrutiny.

I used to officiate soccer and I couldn't have cared less when spectators thought I made a bad call.  But, when one of the referee assessors came up to me after a game, I broke took his opinion and tried to incorporate it into how I managed a game.

You bring up a good point though.  I do believe that the MIAA sees many of the atrocious officiating jobs that happen each year, but it doesn't seem like they have anyone to replace the poorer officials with.

On the official issue: Does anyone know if the MIAA is able to review games via video? I imagine most of the teams tape games for coaching use. Can the coaches forward those tapes to the league office in case of a particularly horrific game in their opinion or are they limited to written accounts?

SKOT:

By your logic then, why should coaching staffs and other team support personel be publicized in the programs, etc.?  I understand where you are coming from with regard to believing in the calls you make are the right ones and could care less what the fans think - I'm sure most of us do who have participated in that job.  However, on the other hand, fans and team officials/support persons and coaches all do have the right to expect appropriate officiating and in that vein, knowing who the officials are in a particular contest is legit.  If I see that some official is truly not doing their job - and again, I am using the safety issues aspects in calls, or rather non-calls I might add - that I have personally witnessed the past 2-3 years and particularly this year, why should I not have the opportunity to inquire to the officiating board of the league as to that official's blatent disregard for rules and/or poor officiating when it comes to making bad calls with respect to some of these safety issues, especially when certain officials repeatedly do this game after game after game?

As you well know, officials, coaches, everyone is in a public forum in the sport and as such, there is no reason for "secrecy".  I agree with you wholeheartedly that the final decision on selecting and grading of officials is the responsibility and duty of the league officiating director(s), however, public input - IF it is legimate - from team personel, coaches and yes, even fans who have legimately and seriously followed such is appropriate IMO.

Not many Albion tickets have been sold for tonight, which seems weird.  Some big event in Albion tonight that is keeping folks at home?

I hear it's Dollar PBR night at the Moose Lodge

If you're not in Holland tonight you should really check out the video feeds from the OAC and NCAC. The NCAC particularly has the best quality live internet feed I've ever seen from D3. Its absolutely great.

Calvin certainly is playing with a lot more energy than in last week. We'll see what the future holds for them and if Albion's shooting improves at all in the second half.

He doesn't get t's too often, but it happens to even the most mild mannered coaches from time to time.  Will wait to hear from someone there.
