While I'm confident Hope will re-load next year, Calvin sure has lots of weapons and "should" be a force to reckon with.

A bit disappointing season I'd say for the Knights, but much to look forward to next year. I'd have to say, Calvin will be the team to beat and probably ranked highly in the pre-season, nationally.

About Calvin....what has happened to Veldhouse this season?  He looked very average in all 3 Hope games.
Mantel will be ok but he is too slow to make decisions....and kills Calvin defensively against open offenses.
Who will replace what Griffin can do?  Veltema is a great kid and great shooter but he will not be able to penetrate and finish like DG.  (again, there is a speed issue with him.)

Derek Griffin - 1st Half - three 3's and three consecutive point of his finger  at the Dew Crew

Derek Griiffin - 2nd half - zero 3's and ZERO pointing of his finger at the Dew Crew.

You are ZERO class Griffin and good riddance!!!!!!!!

If a recognizable group of fans singles out a player, can they really gripe if the player singles them out in return?

I found your post to be ZERO class.

Sorry for you Mr. Ypsi!!!!!!

I forgot to mention the "finger" that Tyler Zoerhoef "gave" the Dew Crew during the game, I'm sure that made his Holland Christian and Calvin fans proud.

I heard alot of "directed" taunts to DVS and MVH, however, I did not see any recognition by either player of their taunts.

Calvin players point, and give the "Finger", now that is CLASS!

I have said it over and over about Griffin. Pride comes before the fall. It happens every single time he gets and inflated ego. It's unfortunate that he hasn't seen how far a little bit of humility will take him. Tonight's game was one of the most exciting I've seen in all the years I've watched these two teams play.

It was a great crowd at the DeVos and one of the biggest.

Well said!  Two nights in a row for Griffin, at least on Friday night the officials had the guts to call him on the carpet for it.  Even though Mr. Ypsi wants to give excuses and slack, last game vs Hope, being singled out, etc.  What was last night's excuse?  Thin skin I would say

After Griffin cooled down, it was time for the Dew Crew to taunt. Anyone hear the chant while he was shooting free throws?
"CC dropout! CC dropout!"
Funny. Clever.

It's intersting how you think that chant is "funny" and "clever" when Muskegon Communit College is a 2 year college, which Derek went to for 2 years, and then TRANSFERED to Calvin.  Am I missing something??

D1 dropouts, D1 dropouts, D1 dropouts.....directed for Marcus VanderHeide AND Derek VanSolkema who weren't even close to finishing their education there.  FUNNY and CLEVER!

No, you're missing nothing.  The very facts you pointed out are why everyone can laugh at the chant.  Chanting "CC dropout" at an actual CC dropout would be pretty tasteless.

You only have 2 posts total so I find it rather interesting that you've said it OVER and OVER.....

Seriously, I don't find any humor in it, but I guess that's just me.

Did you find the rogaine chant funny?  Both would be directed at someone personally.

Like I said there were many things that I thought lacked some class last night, from both sides and pretty minor incidents in the grand scheme.

I was asked afterwards when the last time Hope had a 3 game lead in the overall series.

Between the regular season games of the 1989 season, Hope held a 59-56 lead in the series.  By 1994 the series was Calvin 71-61, and of course only last year did Hope finaly get back into the series lead although briefly.

In 1990, 91, 92 and 93 Calvin ended Hope's season with wins over the Dutchmen, the first 3 in the NCAA tournaments, the last in the MIAA tournament.  I graduated in 92 so I lived through these as a student.

16 years later, Hope just ended Calvin's season in 2006, 2007, and 2008.......the first 2 in the NCAA tournament, the last in the MIAA tournament.

So yes I'm enjoying this........karma is good. ;)

No I didn't find that rogaine chant funny.  I don't like when student sections single out certain players and "taunt" them - I never have, and I never will.

Hopester

Centre loses to Millsaps. Looks like a good chance Hope will be number 1 in both men and women's polls. This could be a fun ride.
Its a great day to be a Dutchman!

Those of us who have been following MIAA BB for many years have seen team's fortunes ebb and flow.  Some years Hope fans have congratulated Calvin on its success, and this year we've seen the reverse.

For Hope fans yesterday's two games were about as good as it gets.  But it may get just a tad better in another day.  With the #1 (Amherst) and #2 (Centre) men's teams having both lost this weekend, there's at least a chance that the #1 ranked men's and women's teams may both be, at the regular season's end, Hope College.  Regardless of what happens in the tournament, that would be an exceptional achievement worth savoring.  With 400+ DIII men's and women's teams, the odds of that happening by chance are less than 1 in 160,000.

Are you saying that Griffin was being singled out?

You got me, Erm - I wasn't there.  But as a graduating senior, knowing it might well be his last rivalry game (or even last ANY game), I'll cut him some slack.  (Unlike section7.)

Several comments about Derek Griffin.

He has a history of taunting.  At last year's tournament I was sitting behind the Tri-State fans when Calvin was playing Tri-State in the semi-finals.  Griffin was burning the nets, and after he made his three's he would come by the Tri-State fan section and yell something to the crowd, although I could not make it out.

Last night the refs had enough after another verbal taunt, and they stopped the game to give him a warning, and presumedly a T if it reoccured.  He just rolled his eyeballs and smiled.

Tonight he shot and made three treys in the first half, and pointed to the Dew Crew each time.  He also did the same after at least one other shot.  The second half comes, then Griffin cools off.  What goes around, comes around.  When he started to miss his treys (before he finally left with a 3 for 11 performance from behind the arc), the Dew Crew starts to point at Griffin.  Van Wiren eventually sees it, and motions to them to put their hands down and stop the pointing.

I know much was made of Van Solkema talking to the Calvin fans earlier this season, but DVS looked like a choir boy compared to Griffin's antics.  I like to see a player let his performance do the talking.

It reminds me of the famous quote attributed to former Cowbows coach Tom Landry, who when asked what he thought of players celebrating a touchdown in the endzone, replied, "I never want my player to act like it's the first time he has been there."

Having said the above, Derek was an incredible performer for the past two years, a money player that you wanted to give the ball to in a clutch situation.  Hope fans will not forget his performance in last year's tournament.

At least Griffin can back it up when he talks. DVS just sucks.

AndersDY

Derek will happily continue sucking next weekend  ::)
