2008 All-MIAA Teams have been posted on the MIAA home page.

Interesting that after 15 years they changed the number of 1st and 2nd teamers to 6 instead of 8.  Really no argueing with any of those selections.

Congrats to Marcus, he really stepped up big this year and provided some great on court leadership.

And with the drop from 8 players on the first team to 6, both Derek Griffin and Derek VanSolkema are 2nd team after being first team last year.

However, even if there were 8 players selected this year, I am not sure that DVS would have made the first team anyway.  In my opinion he was solid but not outstanding this year.

Also ironic that Hope's MVH and Wolfe are first team for the first time as seniors.  And they are the only seniors on the team this year.  Of course, Wolfe did not even start last year.  A lot of great first and second team MIAA players coming back next year; too bad none of them wear orange and blue!

Special congratulations to both Marcus VanderHeide for being named MVP, and Caleb Veldhouse, the only player on the first team who has been on the first team for every year that he has played.

Desmond Young became the 5th different Adrian player to lead the MIAA in scoreing in the last 11 seasons.

Marcus Vanderheide is the 4th Hope MVP in 6 seasons, and becomes Hope's 20th different player to win the MVP award.  Its the 26th time a Hope player has been named MVP.

Next years MVP race should start out as a four/ maybe 5 horse race between Desmond Young, Tony Benford, Caleb Veldhouse, Brandon McClary and maybe Jesse Reimink.  I'd expect Caleb to come out on top.

If you enjoy basketball stats, go to mmia.org and see the team and individual stats of the 2007-8 season.  The stats are for the entire season, not just the MIAA action.

Maybe. If you could choose one of those guys to be on your team, would he be your pick? He wouldn't be mine, even though I respect his game.

Hey, leave the DeVos banner jokes to us so we can have at least a little fun these days.....

In the D3hoops.com poll era, its the first time both the men and women from 1 school have been ranked #1 at the end of the regular season. 8)

Maybe Dave Collinge knows, but I think I remember UW Stevens Point and maybe Washington U having both teams ranked #1 at some point.  But I sure could be wrong.

Assuming no upsets it would stand at Whitewater Centre Occidental and Hope. No obvious geographic placement there.

I would think Whitewater is the obvious geographic choice.  Also, if the women are around for the second weekend, by NCAA rules, they have priority over the men for hosting sectionals.  Who knows though, perhaps the NCAA will be stupid and prevent the women from hosting because they are hosting the final four.

Why is Whitewater more obvious than Holland or Danville?

Whitewater, WI <--> Danville, KY = approx. 485 miles
Whitewater, WI <--> Holland, MI = approx. 252 miles
Holland, MI <--> Danville, KY = approx. 430 miles

Hope is actually an easier trip from UWW and Centre than either of the other two schools are to the other two first-weekend hosts.

In addition, Hope is the only team in this section that drew a bye. That leads me to believe that the Dutch are the section's top seed, and thus the likely choice to host if the Dutch make it to the Sweet Sixteen. The bigger concern, aside from the obvious fact that Hope actually has to earn that trip on the floor against either the Crusaders or the Bison, is the fact that their women might get in the way. As scottiedawg said, the Hope women's team gets hosting priority on the second weekend if both Hope teams make it that far.

It is only an extra day, and I think it keeps the team fresh. It allows us to sit back and watch our opponents play. We get more time to prepare for them, and don't have to have our starters play 30 minutes the night before.

Except for that whole no live scouting rule. :-\

I assume that means "paid employee" scout  ;) ;)

I'll be in Bexley. I accept cash, check or cookies.  PM me for address information.  ;D

Are you gonna change your screen name to "Belichick"? ;)

If you check out a later post of mine, I actually think Hope is a better choice than Whitewater.  As the 3rd seed or lower, I don't think Centre has any chance of hosting.  Also, their average attendance at home was 550, with the most highly attended game being 1500.  That leads me to believe their gym is less than ideal.
Plus, even though the women have priority, do you think the NCAA would allow them to play rounds 3-6 at home?  I have a sneaking suspicion they wouldn't.

Yes, but as we've already covered here, and on the women's page, while Hope's women may have priority over Hope's men, Howard Payne's women have priority over Hope's women.  The women's bracket shapes up to have Howard Payne host down in Texas (assuming they win on Sat).
