Quite a telling survey question on the front page right now. "Someone else" is kicking butt against the individual high ranked selections for the winner of the men's tourney.

Hello from smelly Hong Kong! I mean wow. I used to think the Heinz plant was bad in Holland. This is a whole new level of interesting smells each and every morning.

So its officially Hope-Capital as Capital beat Bethany 92-70. I wonder if GVW made the trip to Columbus to take in the game tonight or another coach at least. ???

GO HOPE! I really need Hope to get to Salem this year as its the last year I will be conveniently close to Salem.

Stat of the Second:

Ben Gunn of Capital has more blocks (70) than the entire teams of Hope (62) and Bethany (64)

Edit: Added block stats from correct Bethany College (WV) and removed stat from Bethany University (CA)

Wow - 2.5 block per game - but he only averages 15.4 minutes per game, despite being a starter.  Maybe that's in part due to the fact that he comitted 73 fouls or 2.6 per game in those limited mintues.  That would be 6.8 fouls per 40 minutes - another wow.

As a point of reference, Jesse Reimink has the most fouls for Hope (77 in 27 games, and he averages 25.6 minutes per game).  That would be 4.5 fouls per 40 minutes.

Gunn does get blocks...but that's about all he does.  He's best when he can camp underneath the hoop and go for blocks/rebounds- most any D-III forward or guard would be able to blow past him off the dribble, as he is often caught flat-footed if he's trying to defend away from the basket.

Gunn is hardly an offensive threat.  Bethany (and most opponents) allow him to take any shot he wants as long as he's 12+ feet from the basket.

So Capital it is...

Safe travels to those of you heading to Cleveland for the women on Friday and back to Holland for the men on Saturday - they're calling for some nasty weather in Ohio this weekend.

Well, sure -- we can only fit eight answers and the other 52 teams all have fans. :)

I don't like being nit picky, but Baldwin-Wallace is in Berea.

You western Michiganders (former and present) ... always trying to SLIP Gerald R. Ford into the discussion. ::)

;)

Perhaps it's just because I did not live during the Ford years, but I don't follow the Win Button being a reference to Ford. Sure he won some games in Ann Arbor back in the day, but as we are occasionally reminded, he never won an election (well, as VP, but not as the #1).

I'm sure Gerald would appreciate some of those fine DeVos nachos even though he can't watch any football there.

Hey, not to be a stickler and get entirely off topic, but Ford can't even claim a victory to the White House as VP on a ticket. I also did not follow the reference, though it's pretty clever now that I understand. I suppose we could use a little bit of Ford's luck through this tournament though!

Don't feel bad about having the Gerald R. Ford reference sail over your head. Two days ago, one of the posters on the WIAC board was griping about the term "pod" being used in conjunction with this weekend's first- and second-round games, and this was my response:

Pod. Can anyone identify the person responsible for calling these games pods?

Donald Sutherland can identify him!

What response did I get?

From now on, I'm saving all of my 'A' material for you folks. ;)

I've never heard of Baldwin-Wallace or Berea.  Have any of our men's teams ever played them?  Please fill me in with a little history.  Thanks.

All of you Hope fans should know more than what you should about Baldwin-Wallace. Most recently, Olivet was the last MIAA to play the Yellow Jackets and that was in Nov. 2006.

Eventually you'll learn to just ignore wiz and his lame attempts at humor   :D

The weather is much more promising down here today,  a little burst of snow this afternoon mixed with rain they're calling for an inch or 2 of accumulation.  The heavier stuff isn't supposed to arrive untill well after midnight.

Capital is a big strong team, like every other OAC team I've ever seen.  Tough to judge on one game, but it should be a tough one Saturday night.

Hope fans can appreciate good ballplayers and I think they'll be impressed with Stahl if he's on like he was last.  But by no means is he Cap's only threat.  This should be a good tough matchup.

sac - we've been waiting to hear your assessment of last night.  Watching the second half on-line (with the game already decided) it was pretty hard to learn much.

Also glad to hear the updated weather report - we're heading out to Berea shortly - and should make it in record time thanks to OC_SIDs directions.

I suppose this isn't the time to mention that I golfed yesterday in short sleeves.  ;D Hey, I can't make it to the game tomorrow night because I'm stuck here in the nation's capital, so there has to be some compensation.
