I can't imagine even the NCAA would send everyone out to Spokane. Wheaton would seem most likely if it's not Hope - close to an airport, more centrally located. Raymond had 36 tonight and is carrying the Thunder right now. With Wiele back, they won't be an easy victory, first meeting notwithstanding. Of course, we have to get by a hot OWU team first.

Quite the difference in the 4 teams in the men's regional versus the women's

Men
#1 plus 3 unranked teams

Women
#1, #2, #19, #22
2016, 2020, 2022 MIAA Pick 'Em Champion

They did it in 2004 with Stevens Point, Lawrence and Sul Ross State.  They all went to Puget Sound.

Not only that, but 2 of the 3 had to win conference tournaments to get in and the 4th everyone thought was out.

Hope and OWU's only other NCAA tournament meeting (1988):

Ohio Wesleyan 110, Hope 107 (2 OT)

Looks like that was a heckuva game, and in the Sweet Sixteen, too. Toughest game OWU encountered on its path to the national championship that season.

Yeah, some of the older Hope fans will be looking hard to see if Scott Teder suits up for the Bishops next Friday.

Mr. Ypsi

I think the women will go to Texas, and the men will host.  Regardless of the women's seeds, it gives the NCAA a chance for a belated payback to Texas teams that have often been screwed by geography.  It also avoids letting the Hope women have home court advantage the entire rest of the tourney.  And it solves the problem with the men - they are not going to fly three teams to Spokane if they can possibly avoid it, but Wheaton was (probably) the last C selected and OWU was not even in contention for a C.  The men in Holland is the obvious solution.

[Therefore, it probably won't happen. 8)]

In terms of the whole men/women both having a serious possibility to host, doesn't the NCAA take both geographic and seeding into account fairly equally? So if that's the case, then the men hold both of the tiebreakers in the criteria. It's a wash for the women, and in that case, then Howard Payne seems like the more likely candidate to host. I just don't see the NCAA making Hope drive 3 hours to Wheaton or 5 hours to Delaware (OWU) to go play at much lower and less deserving seeds.

Its all very complicated when both the men and women are involved.

In even years, the women have priority for Sectional hosting.  Should they chose Holland, then the men have to be on the road.  Should they chose anyone but Hope, there's no reason the men's sectional should be anywhere but Holland.

(Insert the "Clapping Song"!!)  Hope Wins!!!

Some highlights from tonight's game:

*  Arriving in Holland, the picture couldn't have been any prettier. Blue sky, the Hope Flag and the NCAA Flag bustling in the wind outside of the DeVos, but both of them strong enough to bear the fiesty winds. Was this foretelling of more to come...

* Someone had mentioned that Capital had found the weight room. I think they ate the weight room.  That or many of the players went out for football, but the basketball coach pulled them aside and had them switch sports.   I was waiting for the men in stripes to start throwing flags instead of blow their whistle!!

*  Interesting to watch the change of Capital's starting five to their subs. Those who started have quite the size (a few of them could be a part of the Hulk Hogan crew) and then you lose about a foot per person for the subs.

*  Accolades to Capital player #25, Nate Stahl, one VERY IMPRESSIVE and CLASSY player. He has the shot, the skill, the defense, but not the attitude. He definitely lived up to his stats, but he was very cool headed and a pleasure to watch.

* Many people have already mentioned the Brandon Bosch block in the first half. My seatmate immediately asked, "How tall is he???????!!!!!"  At 6' 3'' he put on a little NBA flare for the folks at the DeVos!

*  Accolades to the Dew Crew for the "Countdown" cheer while the Capital Players were at the free-throw line.  Priceless!  And... it worked!!

*  Did you also notice that Marcus Vanderheide began the first half with a 3 pointer, and then began the 2nd half with a 3 pointer?  It took him 3 more seconds to achieve his shot in the second half though!

*  The Medal of Courage Award goes to Ryan Klein. As many have already mentioned, Holy Defense Batman!  Ryan, once again stepped up for the team and covered the player from the other team that was a threat. This time it was Nate Stahl, and Ryan did an outstanding job on D!  Accolades to Jessie Reimink and Marcus Vanderheide for their scoring efforts tonight too!

Blue skies.  I like blue skies.

If it doesn't matter where the women play because there are multiple teams that are deserving of hosting, then it seems like it would be common sense to note that it would be unwise to have the men go anywhere but Hope. Of course, maybe I'm asking for the NCAA to take too many things into account and use a little common sense!

You hit the nail on the head when you put "NCAA" and "Common Sense" in the same sentence. They really are an oxymoron!  ;D

Ryan Klein's Defense

MIAA Semi-Final vs Adrian
Desmond Young-16 first half points-Enter Klein-4 points in next 10 minutes, 4 points in final 10 minutes

MIAA Championship vs Calvin
Derek Griffin-15 first half points-Enter Klein-2 points in next 10 minutes, 6 points in final 10 minutes

NCAA Second Round
Nate Stahl-16 first half point-Enter Klein-2 points in next 10 minutes, 5 points in final 10 minutes

(The assumption being that sometime around the 10 minute mark, these games were decided).

Yeoman's work being done by Klein.

Other than having to give up his "Master of Halftime Adjustments" title, is there a reason why GVW doesn't just assign Klein to the opponent's best scorer for the whole game?

Its for those teams that ONLY view the 1st half of the game tapes!!   ;D
