I was just there last year and went to the particular spot that was apparently the place to be, and now I can't remember which one it was... Alright, with a bit of online research, I did confirm that Mac & Bob's is where I went last year that I'd been told about (not sure if there are competing local favorites recommended). Is that the one everyone usually hears about for Salem?

It wasn't at that place, but actually at the Fudruckers before the games that I managed to meet someone who was sporting a Hope sweatshirt at last year's Final Four. I asked him if he missed the memo about us having lost to Wash U., but he apparently has made the trip down from GR every year for several years regardless of the participants.

Thanks AndersDY. I look forward to meeting many of you at the games.

Mac and Bob's is the place in Salem. There are a couple in Roanoke as well, about 10 minutes' ride from the Civic Center and a couple of exits from the airport hotels.

All-Region teams are up. Congrats to Marcus Vanderheide for making 1st team all region! Also congrats to GVW for coach of the year! And as much as I do have a disliking for all things Calvin, it's good to see Caleb Veldhouse make 2nd team all region. He once again proved to be a good leader for Calvin this year, no matter what their record indicates.

For the question about the video streaming, it is indeed free -- you have to register but it's free.

This board is fertile soil for backhanded compliments..... :D (and I'm sure I'm as guilty as any in this dep't)

But seriously, I'm sorry to hear that you "have a disliking for all things Calvin", I would much rather it be "an intense desire to beat us when we face each other in athletic competition" and nothing more!

A couple years ago, in my favorite story about this rivalry, Don Overbeek had knee surgery and his surgeon was a Calvin grad.  Both said great things about each other in the GRPress article.  I always thought we had a great rivalry with tons of passion on the court/field/pool/track but when the game was over, we had to find a way to live together.  And for some families that has meant under one roof.

Of course, I could never do that...  Hence my uncle had a choice when I moved to Washington DC, renounce his alma matter or be completely disowned.  I see him every Sunday.  ;)

That's probably closer to what it is. I guess I probably misstated my own feelings! After all, I have many friends who go to or have gone to Calvin, and I respect it as a solid institution. And I did almost go there! :o :)

Also, I hope my compliment of Veldhouse wasn't seen as backhanded. It's unfortunate that their record wasn't as good this year as many people predicted, and I'm sure we have done a great job this year pointing out all of those things. I was just saying that through all of their troubles this year, Velhouse was a tremendous competitor every game and the kind of leader that every team wishes they could have. I hope this clears it up a little!

I'm sorry...I respect Caleb as a player, but I really didn't see in him during this particular year anything that I feel would make him worthy of second team all-region.  Am I off the mark here? ???

Calvin Guy and bbaum sound like they've been re-reading this old classic:

Of course around here, it's "You Will Suffer Humiliation When The Team From My Dutch Reformed Denomination Defeats The Team From Your Dutch Reformed Denomination..."

So has anyone actually come up with a specific place/time for a meet and greet for posters before or after the games on Friday?

I would say you are off the mark only in making a not-so-subtle jab at some personal issue on a public message board.

I apologize, and I edited it.  Could you edit it as well so that it doesn't offend anyone else?  Thanks.

I've removed my reference to your original quote.  Thanks CM.

And Go Hope this weekend, I hope you all enjoy this time.

I think again that we all need some BASKETBALL to talk about. On this board and every other board (NCAA Championship) people are getting quite emotional over things.
On the NCAA Champ board there were three pages in a row complaining about a front page article in the St. Louis paper about DIII Sectional.
HUGS ALL AROUND are needed.
Either way.....GO HOPE.
PS- Am I giving bad Karma to my Ducthmen since I only got the hotel for Friday night?
I am going to stay for all the games regardless....however I figured I would only need/want a room for Saturday night so I would have a place to crash after celebrating a (hush....Hope Championship). Otherwise, I will be taking the 5 hour drive back to Philly after the games Saturday night.

I could agree with those comments.

He had the stats to make second team all region, and that's probably what the voters can only look at.

Besides the Select Bank Tourney, he didn't really step up in the second half against other quality teams as much I would've liked to see him do so.

I've got my tickets, got transportation arranged, got the hotel booked. Can't wait!

Tniem, DCHN: I have a group of students going, but they're all set with rides. Haven't heard anything from the DC area alumni, but I might know more on Wednesday. Let me know what your travel plans are. We're leaving Reagan National around 9AM.

HopeConvert, my assumption is this was before the email you sent...  DCHN was going to talk to the guy by email and let him know our plans.  We are leaving at noon so work has our bodies in the morning (but not any attention).  Glad to know the semester students will be coming down.

We got our hotel rooms booked as well.  Getting hard to wait.

Any update on ticket sales back in Holland?  Would love to fill it...
About 5 or 6 of them, I think. I hope you guys can make a ride work with the other guy.

Is it appropriate to ask where people will be staying? We'll be at the Days Inn in Salem.

I forgot what is was called, but in 2005 I stayed in the one the players stayed at.   If anyone is staying there, you should like the place.  It has a nice little bar/restaurant right next to the indoor pool.  The only complaint I had is Wisconsin Steven Point fans were loud all night, so it was pretty hard to sleep.
