I would just advise all my fellow posters.  Don't dish it out if you are not ready to receive it when the shoe is on the other foot. :)

I couldn't agree more.  So, I too will be rooting for Hope tomorrow!

Change of heart so soon Wiz?

No change of heart.  As you may have read in an earlier post, I encouraged Hope to represent the MIAA well.  They can still salvage some respect for our league by winning tomorrow.

True, I was also referencing several earlier posts where you pointed out that Calvin beat the Wash-U team with Sean Wallis.  The change from that post to cheering for Hope is where I see the change of heart.  Not that a little extra cheering for Hope will hurt.  :D

FINAL: 89-74.

The third place game is really hard to get up for, but I'm proud that IWU has 3 thirds and no fourths.  Hope by a bunch tomorrow.

As a Calvin fan I remember the 1990 final4 like it was yesterday.  It is hard to get up for the consolation game, but I just don't see this Hope team leaving Salem with 2 losses. :)

One team will....

But, nevertheless, congratulations to Hope on a great season.  I really thought this team had what it takes to go all the way.  Next season should be real interesting.  How will Hope react to losing so many senoirs?  Will Calvin gel next year?

How long until practice starts    >:(

Three brief thoughts on why Hope lost.

1) For about a 10 minute period from 15 to 5 minutes in the second half Wash U was just unconscious shooting from the field. They made some open shots earlier but then started hitting shots with hands in their face off of dribble creation. There were a couple where Hope could have not done anything better to stop them.

2) FT!!! I realize DVS missed three in a row but overall he played a great game and the FT misses went well beyond that. 11-18 won't cut it when the other team is 23-27.

3) The balding official in the first half was atrocious. There were a couple swing plays where stuff was let go against Hope and this guy would call terrible fouls on the other end. Including blowing the whistle before any contact occurred at least twice when he merely was anticipating what might happen next. I am not saying this is why Hope lost but this guy was atrocious and it did create foul problems for Hope all game.

Pleasant surprise was how well Zach Osburn played. His play has really improved all year long.

That is how most teams felt about Hope all year!

Honest question, though.  Will Hope hang a final four banner up?  Just wondering....

Sometimes I wish Calvin would to make it look more like a d1 feel.

All other things being equal, 18 of 18 won't cut it when the other team makes 23 of whatever.

It is obvious by the number of negative comments from Calvin supportors that many are grinning from ear to ear at Hope's loss. But I am sure that across the board that any Hope fan would much rather be playing for 3rd in the nation than sitting home these past two weeks grumbling at Hope's success and at Calvin's underachieving this year!

How bout the nice color of "Northern Michigan" in my new profile pic ;D

What?!  A review of the recent posts is nearly all positive and supportive posts to the Dutchmen.  I hope you do not take a little needling about who has prettier girls as negative about the Hope basketball team.  Who's grumbling now?  Though I suppose I am grumbling about your grumbling about our alleged negativity.  Whatever.  Hope had a great year, just came up a little shorter than we had come to BELIEVE they could have.  Every trip by any MIAA team to Salem raises the stock of the whole league, so my hat's off to the Dutchmen.

True?

My point is not that that the discrepancy would have made up for the difference in the score but that you can't shoot fewer free throws than your opponent and shoot them poorly and except to win many games against quality competition.

I think Calvin fans have been predominantly supportive. I think a few of us were taken aback by the negative comments from just a couple Calvin posters though because that is historically not the way this board operates once we have reached this point in the season.

And I am sorry but Hope girls are WAY cuter than Calvin girls. However, all West Michigan girls are cuter than DC girls ;)

Congratulations to Hope on an outstanding season!  Getting to the Final Four is a huge accomplishment and a great representation of the MIAA.  And congrats to Marcus Vanderheide for being named All-American.  We have always thoroughly enjoyed Marcus and we are glad he had such a shining senior season.
