Also congrats to Trine University for winning ther first ever MIAA Championship by winning a share of the Softball title up in Alma.

I believe this will also be Trine's first athletic team to compete in an NCAA tournament.

Cool

Which school is this year's all sport champion?

Well, if someone keeps very close tabs on their karma and the list of names at the top of the page that lists who is reading the page, they could put two and two together.
I suppose that's a possibility.  But, that could probably lead to some incorrect assumptions.

Perhaps. But the software keeps a log that I have access to.

Calvin scored better (or will)  than Hope in 5 of the 6 spring sports.  But it looks like Hope will still hold on to their lead.  Hope's 4 place advantage on Calvin in softball looks to be the decider.....at least if things hold as they are right now.

If I did this right..........Calvin's men will gain 4 points, Hope's women will gain 2.  So overall Calvin gains 2 on Hope.

Standings after winter season
Commissioner's Cup Standings: 1. Hope 134, 2. Calvin 126, 3. Albion 99, 4. Olivet 85, 5. Kalamazoo 62, 6. Tri-State 61, 7. Alma 56, 8. Adrian 51.

Men's All-Sports Standings: 1. Hope 67, 2. Calvin 50, 3. Olivet 48, 4. Albion 44, 5. Tri-State 35, 6. Alma 30, 7. Kalamazoo 27, 8. Adrian 18.

Women's All-Sports Standings: 1. Calvin 76, 2. Hope 67, 3. Albion 55, 4. Saint Mary's 48, 5. Olivet 37, 6. Kalamazoo 35, 7. Adrian 33, 8. Alma 26, 8. Tri-State 26.

As always, Calvin's football team really let them down again this year......(groan) ;) ::)

Nate King 6-3 F Utica Ford---Hope  (I'm going with F, since he wore #55)

A quick and brief search has him on the Detroit Free Press's all-metro East second team.  Other than that not alot of info, I'll try later.

Not much else out there, .........interesting he's supposedly the 2nd player to "commit" to Hope in a week with the common thread being their High School coaches both played for Hope.       Kyle VanderWall (Grandville), Mark Bray (Utica Ford II)

Just try convincing google your not looking for Nat King. :D

i saw nate once over the holidays when i was visiting some family in port huron (distant relative plays JV)...he really impressed me with his athleticism and hustle. he's probably closer to the 6'5 that Inside Prep Sports lists him (see below), but he has long limbs that make him seem taller. i figured that he and another fellow wingman from mr. bray's team (kyle hunt) would eventually have done well at a GLIAC or MIAA school. i think he flew under the radar a lot and will be a real good pickup for the dutchmen.

plus, and here's the real shocker for the dutch faithful, hope may have turned the corner in its battle with diversity. between kelvin carter and now nate, they have 2 minority student-athletes enrolled. that may not go unnoticed by others in the future.

A couple of schools have their schedules posted for 08-09.  So far no one from the MIAA, but I did find a few that have games with MIAA opponents:

Manchester (IN) @ Alma – Nov. 15
Domincan (IL)@ Tri-State – Nov 15
Baldwin-Wallace (OH) @ Calvin Tournament - Nov 21-22
Grace Bible (MI) @ Calvin Tournament - Nov 21-22
Adrian @ Manchester (IN) – Nov 30
Calvin & Hope vs Wheaton & Carthage @ Wheaton - Dec 5 - 6
Grace Bible @ Hope College Tournament - Dec 12 - 13
2016, 2020, 2022 MIAA Pick 'Em Champion

While I don't have dates for these contests yet, North Park will be facing Alma (not sure yet on which side of the lake the game will take place) and will take part in Trine's tournament as well. Besides Trine and NPU, that tournament will include Case Western Reserve and one of the NAIA Indiana or Purdue branch campuses -- I'm not sure which one.

The Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame will be packing up the displays and trucking them over to Holland next season for the annual Hall of Fame Classic between Hope, Calvin, Aquinas and Cornerstone.  That could be a really interesting early season tournament again.

If I'm guessing right the pairings this year would be Aquinas vs Calvin; Cornerstone vs Hope............Thanksgiving weekend I assume.

Thats true, it just seems next year 3 of the 4 should be really good, and the 4th will be the host..........and thats not much different from last years tournament is it. :D

I don't think Hope's schedule is public yet, but here's some tidbits from it

Hope opens with Trinity Christian at DeVos on Nov 22.

Hall of Fame Classic : Hope v C'stone/Aquinas v Calvin
MIAA/CCIW:  Hope v Carthage Fri; Hope v Wheaton Sat

The Holland Community Tournament is an abysmal set of opponents.
The Russ DeVette Tournament is not much better.

Calvin at Hope........Saturday January 17 at 7:30 PM
Hope at Calvin........Wednesday February 11 7:30 PM

Hope will be the first MIAA opponent to play in Olivets new Cutler Gymnasium on January 7.

Hope will play 2 Home Saturday night games in MIAA play the second being Olivet's return trip.  These dates are Women's/Men's double headers.  HopeW v Olivet; HopeM v Calvin on Jan 17.  HopeW v St. Mary's; HopeM v Olivet on Jan 31

Hope will finish the MIAA season on the road at Trine in another Saturday night game.

Its also kind of nice that Hope's longest road trip to Adrian comes on a Saturday this year, as does Alma.

Hope will get Albion and Calvin at home in the first half of MIAA play, and will be on the road to both in the 2nd half.

MIAA Tournament February 25-28

There is a third Men's/Womens' double-header.......which is actually the first.  Hope's women will be hosting their tip off tournament the same day, Nov 22. the men tip off their season.

I'm embarrassed to even post this but Hope's Holland Community Tournament will have 3 teams that combined for a 27-68 record in 2008..........19 of those wins belong to Grace Bible.  The other two teams were 5-26 and 3-23......5 of those 8 wins came vs bible schools.
