Couple other odds and ends about the  HofF Tournament.

----Hope enters this tournament with a game under its belt for the first time in 3 seasons,  06-07 and 07-08 saw Hope open the season with this tournament.  in the 06 tournament that didn't seem to bother them as they rolled to the trophy.  In 07, it was painfully obvious who had played 4 games and who had not.

----If I'm not mistaken, Hope and Calvin will be playing games #36 and #37 with each other in the same gym since 2005.  Either watching or playing.
With a trip to Wheaton to come, and 2 reg. season games that number will at least reach 40.........then the post-season starts.

----Aquinas lost a couple more games over the past weekend, which puts them at a disappointing 0-5 on the year.  If John Lierman isn't suited up and 100% healthy, I don't expect AQ to get a win this weekend, maybe not even if he plays.  AQ has a tough schedule remaining before their WHAC season begins, unless they get a drastic turnaround they're looking at 10 losses by conference play.  James Telman can't suit up fast enough for them.  Not a pushover opponent, but I'd still be surprised if AQ won a game this weekend.

----Cornerstone comes in 6-2, a more veteran team than last year for sure.  They beat Trinity Christian by 13 @ TC while Hope beat TC by 5 at home.  C'stone will present a tough challenge Friday night.

Wow, I was just noticing the Karma/posts ratio that "Oldknight" has! He/she must be one of the most complementary posters on here. Does anyone have a higher percentage(27% positive)?   Just bored and curious I guess.

Okay, I just looked back abit and Goodknight(26%)and Knightslappy(39%) are up there as well. Do I see a pattern here with Knight fans?

I, for one, don't think so.

Sorry guys but without a JV board or a Hope hater board, your just going to have to tough it out and discuss your gitters together with everyone watching.

Anyone else going to the Calvin game Friday?  I'll be in town to see the folks for the holiday and my dad already got some tickets.  AQ is looking weak so far.  Hopefully Calvin has no trouble with them this year.

Now that is funny! I think you are actually proud to have the only negative karma of regular posters on here.  ;D

Maybe it would help if you changed your board name to wizknight. ;) :D

Sac:  Thanks for compiling the numbers on the HOF games.  Hard to draw any real conclusions considering the numbers are stacked somewhat by avoiding conference matchups in the first round.  Perhaps Calvin has benefitted by getting the weaker opponent in the first round leading to more championsip appearances.  At this time I would say that it appears Calvin has gotten the easier draw, but only because of injuries etc. at AQ for this years HOF.
I think Hope is really going to have their hands full with a CU team that is showing 4 guys averaging in double figures, and lots of depth looking at how the minutes are distributed.  If Kingshott has the hot hand inside it might make the difference, but I never would discount the home court advantage that Hope enjoys at the De Vos.  In some respects I think this game may well be a better indicator how the Hope team is doing, and may do this season than a matchup versus Calvin should that occur.  Hope will score lots of points this season, but the inexperience on defense may be to much to overcome.
Any Calvin/Hope game has a dynamic all of it's own, and if that should happen I think Calvin is in the position to possibly notch another win at the De Vos.  This is especially true if CU plays them tough the night before.

Since Veldhouse is averaging almost 20 points a game, maybe coach VanWieren should consider following Loyola's Jimmy Patsos's example (http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recap?gid=200811250156&prov=ap) should Calvin/Hope meet on Saturday. Of course, Hope fans could wish for VandeStreek doing the same against Reimink (who I think is averaging more than 20 points a game). I hope Hope beat CU (assuming Calvin beats AQ) as I think this would make a much more exciting final regardless of which coaching strategy is used.

I read that article as well, and coach Patsos's is well, not a very bright coach, IMHO.  It's one thing to employ an extremely unique strategy, but when that fails, why would you not try something else.  It's not as if this was a good learning experience for his team.
