41-31 at the half.  Key has been AQ 22 rebounds Calvin 11.
Not a good sign.

37% shooting vs 57% hurts too.

this would be a real shocker if it holds.  I see Lierman is playing for AQ.

realist

Yes, they must have had a "laying on of hands" over at AQ.  I think Calvin just started flat, and did not respond well to the reality of the situation.

Aquinas 78 Calvin 73

John Lierman, 18 points, 7 rebs.......yes he makes that much of a difference for AQ.

Déjà vu (pronounced /ˈdeɪʒɑː ˈvuː/ (help·info); French /deʒa vy/ (help·info) "already seen"; also called paramnesia, from Greek παρα "para," "near" + μνήμη "mnēmē," "memory") or promnesia, is the experience of feeling sure that one has witnessed or experienced a new situation previously (an individual feels as though an event has already happened or has happened in the near past).

Halftime

Hope 42 Cornerstone 30

Pretty even game actually, Hope's advantage is from the stripe where they are smoking 16-18 to C'stone 4-7, thats the difference.  Hope went 0-4 from 3.  Hope also has half as many turnovers as the Eagles 13-7

Reimink 11,  Bunn 8, Bosch 6........10 different Dutchmen logged points.  Andy Venema made his first appearance of the season.

Kelvin DeVries with 14 off the C'stone bench

GVW seems to be doing everything just right.  I thought controlling Kingshott was the key, and with only 2 points Hope sure has done that.   It will be interesting to see if Hope can duplicate this effort in the 2nd half. :)

CU to their credit isn't giving up, and Hope has to be concerned with allowing a team to make a late run.   Much like I thought the home court serves Hope very well. Reimink with 27 is hard to beat.

Final

HOPE  82 Cornerstone 74

Reimink 29, Bunn 18, Tanis 8, Bosch 8

Big 3 from Peter Bunn with 1:30 to go, but it was Reimink's 11 points in the final 5 minutes that rescued them including 7 big FT's.  Hope won't/shouldn't be thrilled with the way they finished this one, almost blowing a 20 point lead.  C'stone never quits though, we saw that last year.

Dominic Allen with a big second half, 21 for the game, DeVries with 17

Hope went 27-29 from the stripe for the game.........booyah!

Cornerstone vs Calvin at 6pm
Aquinas vs Hope at 8pm

Simply amazing how well Hope and Calvin have done at avoiding each other in this tournament over the years. :-\

Sac:  I am showing 6 p.m., and 8 p.m on Sat. :)
Calvin didn't do what was necessary to win the game, and that was play 40 minutes like it really meant something.  Hope did what was necessary to beat a team they should beat.  Plenty of roomm for improvement on the part of all 4 teams that played tonight.

yeah I corrected it, I assumed and well, you know what happens. :-[

At this point I am picking Hope to win it tomorrow  About the only thing I am reasonably sure won't happen is both teams can't blow big leads in the 2nd half. ;)  Location, location, location.

Well, so much for all us experts saying the first game tonight would be an easy win for Calvin, and Hope might have a chance to squeak by C'Stone.  As sac said, Lierman makes that much of a difference for AQ.

Thoughts from the Hope game:

- Reimink will find a way to score.  Even with multiple in & out shots in the first half, he kept after it, fininshing 9-19 and 10-10 from the line.  Another outstanding performance

- Bunn really looked to feel comfortable with the team today, and his ability to score from anywhere on the floor was great.

- 3 guys off the bench really sparked the team with hustle

     - Bosch impressed with 8 points in 12 minutes, on a sore ankle

     - Venema played with fire, had 4 big rebounds, and played good D on Kingshot in 12 minutes of time.

     - Snikkers, somehow managed to get 4 rebounds and 2 points in just 2 mintues of play.

Here's to 2 more great games tomorrow.

I treated my 2-year-old grandson Charlie to his first Calvin basketball game tonight.  It was a classic good news/bad news scenario.

The good news:  Charlie sort of liked watching the players, but wondered why he wasn't able to play with them.  He met the man with the orange pants, and -- curiously ;) -- Charlie likes him even more than the man with the yellow hat.  Charlie also sampled the condiments at the DeVos, dipping every piece of hot dog and bun into a dollop of ketchup. :-*

The bad news:  The way the Knights defended -- or failed to defend -- might make it a challenge to get Charlie fired up about a Calvin game until he's 3 -- or until the Knights learn to defend the 3. ;)  Sorry, Charlie. :D
