DV, some of those CCIW endowments you listed from USN&WR are way off. I'm almost certain that the ones I cited are much more accurate.

Good research, though. This stuff is pretty interesting, especially the endowment list for MIAA schools. I was surprised at which schools appear to be haves and which ones appear to be have-nots. The list isn't what I would've predicted it to be.

I was surprised by the endowment list as well. So I did a little checking and the numbers for Albion are way off.  Although I did find the same numbers as Devossed did on the US News page, they just don't make sense when you look at the endowment per student compared to the total endowment.  This is particularly clear when you look at Hope's numbers in comparison to Albion's.

Albion's endowment was closer to 136.6 million as of last school year.  The numbers for endowment per student seem to be much more accurate (I'm assuming they are from Hope's website, which is where I found them) although they are from June of '03 and I'm not sure if there has been much change since then.

Thanks, I fixed the Wheaton one. Like I said, by no means was it an exhaustive list. But here's your info:

MIT      32,300         41,800      5,869,800,000
Tufts      32,621         42,018      771,793,379
Emory      30,794         40,546      4,085,830,573
Swarthmore   31,516         41,280      1,080,026,000

Albion's numbers don't look correct, but then I have no info to back that up.

Per Student basis is the way to go, using hoopaholic #'s it puts Albion and Kzoo 1 and 2 in the MIAA.  With Hope trailing rather significantly.

The GLCA #'s don't surprise me since I'm reminded of them every so often by a letter from President Bultman and/or my alumni rep.   In fact Hope's per student endowment is woefully low by comparison.

But then I'm not sure many schools have spent as much money to improve facilities like Hope has.  Since my Frosh year I think every academic buiding on campus has been refurbished or is brand new except Lubbers Hall and thats due to begin soon I think.

Since I graduated they've added the Haworth Inn & conference Center, Cook Hall, LARGE addition to the Science Building, the new Martha Miller Communication Building and now DeVoss Fieldhouse.  Thats a lot of mulah.

Pretty sure that money has all been raised to fund those specific plans but I'm sure it draws donations away from the endowment fund.

Good numbers DeVossed

Hoopaholic, I was surprised by the Albion numbers as well. I don't know a tremendous amount about the school, but I've been told by a couple of people familiar with the MIAA that a number of suits fairly high up the corporate ladder in Detroit's auto industry over the years have had Albion connections.

Mr. Ypsi

I would trust numbers from the Chronicle of Higher Education over US News - alas, I don't have that edition with me!  (My recollection of last year's numbers [for the CCIW] had Wheaton around a quarter of a billion, IWU a bit over half that, and no one else over 60 million, but I could be mistaken. :o)

Coach Haklin will be missed in Kzoo, but we are happy for him and wish him the best of luck in this new challenge ahead.

Good grief...The football season is half over, Hope only has 1 more win than Calvin, and no one has posted in the MIAA hoops room for a week!!!!   What is the matter??????  Seriously, anyone seen the Hope players working out?   any of the new faces making an impact yet?   How goes the curing of the new floor?  Are we still good for the opener vs Elmhurst (gosh be aware of that game - Elmhurst will be GOOD)....  And who can help me get tickets for the CCIW-MIAA doubleheaders?  Mrs Wylie?  Flying Dutch Fan? Coach Glen?   My daughter's wedding will be over and no better way to celebrate than a quick 8 hour drive through probable blizzards to watch a GREAT weekend of Basketball.

hopefan - The only thing I have witnessed for the Hope team has been Jeff Carlson who is playing for the Hope soccer team this year (ranked 24th in the nation and should be moving up after beating Calvin 2-1 on Saturday).  Jeff has been playing well, and this should really have him in great shape for hoops.  Jeff was a highly rated soccer player in high school, but this year (his senior year) is his first year playing for Hope.

The floor is supposedly done - and the word I heard is that they expect to be on that floor for their first practice - no need to worry about having to sit in the Civic for any games this year.

I'm not sure about getting tickets ahead of time for the MIAA-CCIW Challenge.  Your best bet would be to check the Hope website, or contact the ticket office.

:( :(  Hope1, FDF, don't worry about it - just found out my wife the Nurse is working that weekend, and that's a little too much travel for me to handle myself on the weekend - Maybe a conference Saturday game in January/February will work out better.  I'll catch it (hopefully) on the 'net.

hopefan - sorry you won't be able to make it for the challenge.  Ought to be some good games in a great atmosphere.

Some new pictures are available for DeVos - you can see the finished floor and the seats being installed.

WOW   does that look nice!!!!   Maybe 8 hours each way isn't too much!!!!!!!   I really like the HOPE COLLEGE at each end of the court!!   AAAAAHHHH I gotta get up there early!!!
You know, the Cardinals and Rams and Mizzou and the Blues and the Bilikins are all fun, but the allegiance to a place like Hope once you've been there for awhile just can't be beat.   And it's funny, because no small school down here approaches that allegiance, people just don't get it  --in fact, a Wash U or Maryville athletic program is generally ridiculed. :( :( :( :(

Doing a little digging around on websites today and found that two schools have what I guess you call preseason rosters.  Here are the links:

Alma: http://www.alma.edu/athletics/mens/basketball/roster

Looks like AJ is not leaving Alma for Northwood as someone earlier suggested.

Does the return of Jones force Glenn to give his preseason first place vote to Alma? Or does he give it to Calvin or Albion out of respect for their programs?

What's the word out of Holland on the starting five this year? I know they lost a lot to graduation, but they have Immink, Carlson, Phillips and Voison coming back. I would have thought Carlson was a lock to start, but I hear he's playing soccer this fall.
