Curiously, I haven't heard a word of promotion of the Wednesday inaugural game at the Van Noord. (Or, even less, the actual first game on Monday.) There's really not much opportunity for promotion, either, as Wednesday is the first day of classes for Interim.

I wonder if any students will be there?  :-[

I would not expect the College to do a great deal of promotion of such a game.  They have done a bit with the general media, as noted above.
If my daughter's level of interest in any indication, the students will be there for the Varsity games on Wednesday.

Kalamazoo 66 Skidmore 59

Kzoo's last few posessions in the final 3:12 went:  Up by 6  at the time

Turnover
Turnover
Missed Jump shot
Turnover
Turnover

Skidmore scored 2 points during this stretch.  Then Kzoo went to the FT line ........a lot.   7-10 in the final 37 seconds.  Maybe a little fortunate to hold off the Thoroughbreads.......down the stretch.

I've been to Saratoga Springs, NY and I am fully aware of why Skidmore's nickname is the Thoroughbreads.  ;)

I would update Adrian/Mt. St. Joseph but if you follow the livestats link all I get is a white screen.............maybe its snowing hard.

Mt. St. Joseph 61 Adrian 58.........another close loss for Adrian.  That makes 5 losses by 3 points or less.

Catholic 78-80
Marietta 65-66
Wentworth Tech 61-62
Albright 83-84
Mt. St. Joseph 58-61
-----------------------------------------------

With that result we close out the non-conference season for the MIAA.  A strong three days after the holiday break where the MIAA went 7-2 salvaged (a bit) what was looking like a disaster.

As a league the MIAA went 35-47, here's where that matches up with past years.

2009  35-47  .427  *counts Kzoo forfeit as loss
2008  34-45  .430
2007  27-50  .351
2006  52-35  .598

This still isn't great and puts the league at the low end of D3, maybe more towards the middle.

Back in December I posted I'd hope to see 40 wins this year.  Adrian alone could have pushed us over that mark by winning those close losses.  There were 3 other losses by 3 or less and two more OT losses.  Also 5 wins by 3 or less, and a couple OT wins.

In case following this thread is not enough for you, there is a fairly heated debate comparing the talent levels of DIII with Juco's, often mentioning MIAA schools and players.  I can't cut and paste the link for some reason, but it is on Mlive, Boys high school basketball, North Central link.  Look for TCbasketball and Noodlethis and their ongoing arguement.   :D

Well, I am now at a different computer 10 hours later and I have gone back to Mlive and have notice that the moderator has removed all comments by "Noodlethis". I guess folks were not overly enamored by his comments.   :o  There are still plenty of comparisons of Juco talent to DIII though.

Here's what Calvin Athletic Director, Jim Timmer, had to say about the brand spanking new VanNoord Arena.
"This is the finest complex in (NCAA) Division III, and I can make the argument it's the finest facility in all of small-college athletics," men's athletic director Jim Timmer Jr. said.

Its a beautiful place but Timmer's job pretty much obligates him to make that statement. Plus I haven't seen a single picture including a delectable condiment selection at VanNoord... ;D

They were close to putting a royal spanking on the Bulldogs.  The Boxscore shows a 19 point lead with a little over 10 minutes to go, and GB led for almost the entire game.

FSU hadn't played in 20 days, but surely a lowly bible team that has played Hope and Calvin regularly should never beat a D2 right?   They have no talent right? ...........right? ::)

I think his quote is about more than the arena.  The "complex" includes the arena, pool, indooor track and tennis facility, and the soon to be remodeled Knollcrest fieldhouse for intramurals in the fall.  There maybe finer individual facilities at a small college somewhere, but collectively, it is very impressive.

I  think his statement was one of conviction not obligation.
