gk68: "6: Calvin can't let Jesse Reimink beat them on Saturday."  Perhaps yes, and perhaps no.  Think about doing as HC pointed out.  Force Jesse to play defense by bringing the offense to him.  On the other end of the floor realize he is going to get his points, make him work for them, and at the same time force him to beat Calvin by himself.   Yes. I think Jesse is that critical to Hope's chances.  This is a great opportunity for him to prove his MVP credentials.

I don't really think Calvin should take too much at Jesse on defense becauase I am confident that Jesse can defend the ball.  I think Calvin has the advantage of balance on their side.  If Hope keys in on Caleb, Dustin could have a big game.  If they take Mantel (please, John, STAY DOWN LOW. They can't handle you.) out of the game then Caleb, Dustin, and Veltema could get a few open looks.

I don't know that Calvin needs to double team anyone, but at the same time they always need to know where Jesse is and have a guy in his shirt when he gets the ball.  I expect to see Danny draw the responsibility of guarding Jesse off the bat.  If Calvin can eliminate open looks for Reimink and Bunn, I like their chances.  I know Hope has other guys that can score, but Calvin needs to make them prove that the young kids can hit the shots in a big game.

I was impressed with the balance of the Calvin team and their stars did not disappoint, but I must say give Veldhouse an Emmy for his flop and pulling Asher on top of him at the end of the 1st half.  After seeing this John Stockton imitation for 7-8 years from him (he has been there that long hasn't he), it made me laugh that the officials of the MIAA still can't see that he always fall down in that situation and give him that call.

...perhaps "brushing up" on his "Immink flop" in preparation for Saturday??

As a freshmen, Caleb took a 300 level course in theatrics at the DeVos classroom building. ::)

Reimink hit every open look last night, and that was exactly the problem for the Hornets. They gave both he and Bunn too many open looks from 3 and it was the difference in the ball game.  Without Reimink Hope is not a team that could compete for a title. At least, that is what I saw last night.

I think if you take the best player off of any team they'll have difficulty contending for a title.

In response to the Adrian fan about my story embellishment, I stated the comment about the T's was directly from an Adrian Players mouth.  Knew it was an exageration but was trying to make a point.  I did hear the player in question curse, and he was put back in the game withing 3 gametime minutes.  If I cared enough, I would go back and figure out the exact moment.  transition layup by wolfe in the 1st half, etc... but I don't.

Sorry the Bulldogs couldn't rise to the situation at hand.  I believe everyone not in Maroon and Gold was rooting for you.

I felt that K-zoo played harder than hope for a majority of the game last night, not better, harder.  They have to feel pretty good about things despite the loss.  I have not seen the stats, but rebounding, other than Bowser and turnovers were an issue, and not a good one.

As far as saturdays game, right now my feelings are that the "stars" will cancel each other out and the game will be decided the the bench or an unsung hero of the day.  I know, way to out on a limb huh?    Someone, whether its  Tanis or Scheyders or Osburn, someone will leave their fingerprints on "The Rivalry".  Most importantly, I unfortunately feel that potential foul trouble will be the key contributor to the outcome.

Veltema will have no problem getting his shot off over Bowser.  Will is always slow in his rotations but my biggest concern is Matt in the post, which they do a lot more of this year.  he shoots it high and fades, so its tought to contest.  He may be wise to throw in a shot fake to get Bowser flying, and in foul trouble.  Osburn was defended well thus far, will Mantel make him work, or fade to the perimeter and take his chances, and take himself out of the game.

Dustin Smith could be that unsung hero on the Calvin side.  He's been lights out lately and you know he'd like to keep the dew crew quiet.

how about sticking to the facts, not making the story convenient for yourself???
Like acalum pointed out, what is a technical for a player that is labeled, is considered normal bantor between a ref and other players.  There are some players across the league that are given a free pass in what they tell a ref and then there are others that have the label of being a problem and get a T very quickly.  I think you have shown everyone your lack of credibility in the whole situation at this point.  First you said he swore at the coach, now he cursed.  this situation may have been simply a "bull@#%#&" about a call which anyone in the league could get at any time.  Even Veldhouse on any call vs him or last year VanderHyde could have gotten.  Nothing against either player, both are great players this is just the facts!

KS:  HC is capable of speaking for himself so I don't want to put words in his mouth.  The point I thought he was trying to make, and I definitely am making is force Mr. Riemink to play hard at both ends of the court.  I give him (JR) all the respect, and credit he is due. :)  However, I think he is mortal and constant pressure offensively & defensively is going to take a toll late in the game when I expect this rivalry game will be won or lost.
If the Calvin team that went to Adrian last night shows up I like their chances alot (I have them in the pick em contest).  If the team that played Trinity shows up it won't even be close.

Kalamazoo finished with 27 offensive rebounds, great stat................a mind blowing 20 of them came in the final 6 minutes after falling behind by 20, 9 of those in last 2 minutes

Kalamazoo took 70 shots to Hope's 64, another great stat............in the final 6 minutes Kzoo took 22 to Hope's 6.  Kzoo took 11 shots in final 2 minutes to Hope's 2

...this is what I mean by skewed the stats, the final box score is not indicative of the how the game was played for the majority of minutes.

The last 2 minutes was played with Jerome, Kirkwood, Clark, Carey, McCain against Jungling, Carroll, Osburn, Cox, Warren.

At the final exam time he collapsed on the floor and was taken away to the ER, so the prof. let him pass without taking the exam.  ;)

Realist: that's right. You want to wear him out, but also a lot of times if you make people work hard on the defensive end it becomes more difficult for them to transition to the offensive flow of the game. Jesse is Hope's best defender as well as their best offensive player, but he is going to hurt you more on the offensive end, which is why you force him to expend his energy on the defensive end.

I really am eager to see how Calvin's experience at the guard position matches up against Hope's size and quickness. I'm not sure who they will put on whom (I would like to see Krombeen on Smith and Bunn on Veldhouse), but they should be dandy matchups.
