If one is confident they have the better team, and if one were Hope this day, one shouldn't care whether the game is home or away.  Yes, Calvin may very well play the game of the year, and it won't be an easy win, but Hope has to be favored.  Calvin beating Hope this year is an upset on either teams floor or a neutral site.

I think that we can all agree based on the end of the season that last year Calvin was the better team.  Yet, we all know what happened in the three games played last year.  Hope won at home.  Calvin won at home and at Albion.  I would have to say from an intensity/both teams in it, the game at Hope was closest.  Why do you think that is?  I think it has a lot to do with the closing of the Civic Center and the home crowd.  I think it is fair to say that home court had a lot to do with Hope's win against Calvin last year.  And I think it is fair to say that Calvin would have been the odds of favorite to win that one last year too.

So what do I mean?  If I was a betting man, which I am  ;D, in this type of rivalry game, I would basically put the record aside and give Calvin some extra points for it being at home.  I think in the end you are correct, Hope has to be favored, but I wouldn't bet much on this thing.  Its just too unpredictable and it would not be a large upset (if an upset at all) if the Knights win.  Keep in mind past shockers.

Special note, my Hope tie has gotten a lot of looks today!   ;D

Well before the comparisons to 95 get out of hand let me expound a little.

The 95 team played a different game than this Hope team, they ran people out of the gym.....they were much more likely to fast break teams to death.  If that wasn't working they pounded inside to Bosma and the Fr/So Muhlenberg.  06 Hope plays defense first.

That team beat a number of "good" squads in the non-con just like this Hope team has, but as that year played out those good squads suffered a lot more losses........see Elmhurst, Aquinas, John Carroll, Carthage from this year.  So you wondered a little about level of competition.

Then the 95 team hit the MIAA season and blew everyone off the floor.......much like this team has save for the Albion game.  As someone mentioned the 95 MIAA was pretty weak.

Those are the only comparisons I make..........but it is a little eery, esp since Bald Wally is ranked.

Also in 95 BW was the OAC tournament winner and wasn't the best team in the OAC that year.  But they got hot at the end of the year, beat Hope then Witt and I think they took unbeaten Manchester to the wire as well.

Most remember the legit 6-9 big fella for BW but the real reason they won was the two gaurds who couldn't miss from the parking lot across from the Dow that night.

.......I need a pill

On a happier note, the basketball gods have blessed me with a ticket to the big game tonight.  Come say hi, I'll be wearing Orange.    ;D

The key tonight for me is all about Calvin........shooting and rebounding two things they didn't do at DeVos.  If Calvin hangs with Hope on the boards and gets some bombs to fall, it'll be a tussle.  Wouldn't hurt if Hope played a great game as well which I think it might take.

Should be a great game and atmosphere, seems its been about 3 years since I've been in the cafeteria for a Hope game.

Sac - you sound just like GVW did at the Hoops club lunch on Monday - he said there were two things Hope has to do to beat Calvin - defend the 3 and rebound.

'95 BW loss...In addition to the big man and the two guards, the BW team shot like 90% from the charity stripe, at least it was in the game.  On the year they were 80% from the line.  That certainly hurt the Dutchmen when it came down to the wire and Hope had to foul them.

I think I lost a year off my life watching that game!

I hereby declare the Hope v BW game from 95 to be referred to as "the-game-that-shall-not-be-mentioned"

Can we red dot any future references to that game Pat?

...all right I'm done, good luck to the Hope and Calvin faithful, drive safe all that jazz and GO HOPE!

I ended my time at Hope at the endline (Rah, Rah) with that game and would have preferred to go to Salem that year. Fortunately, coaching for the next 8 years I was able to follow the team to VA, NE, and VA. A very sad day indeed!

On to tonight! Go Hope!

Is there a reason that all these god fearing RCA Hope fans decided to self flagellate themselves before the big game?  Trying not to get too excited, perhaps?

That's too long sac. I suggest an acronym like TGTSNBM.

7 point halftime lead for Hope.  Its great to hear that Hare is playing again, however, I am disappointed we haven't seen Richardson at all. He has played really well lately, especially on Saturday against Crawford. I hope GVW doesn't drop Richardson back to the bench just because Hare is around. I am not convinced that Hare is any better. Thoughts?

Hope leads 31-24 as we head to halftime.

Only getting to read the live updates and not listen to the radio tonight so not many points to add.

Hope had a 20 to 11 lead before Calvin made a run to make it 23-18.  Over the final 6 minutes and 47 seconds they combined for the final 14 points.

I'm getting FUR but not HTC, anyone else having that problem? I like "Dougy Fresh" and all, but wanted to listen to the halftime stuff with our guys.

Nevermind... can't have both up at the same time... Darn technology!  :D

Not sure about whose better but I got to believe that after Richardson's Saturday he deserves some time tonight.  Then again, perhaps coach just liked the matchup with him versus Crawford.  Not the same personnel tonight.
