Looking ahead to tomorrows game with Albion there just isn't much margin for error for Calvin.  Play a game like they did vs. Olivet at home, and you get the same results.  Albion outrebounds opponents, does a great job protecting the ball, and plays lots of guys.  Calvin will need to maintain their edge on the boards, and has to stop the turnovers.  Yes, Calvin has found a way to win several games they probably deserved to lose, but relying on that happening again is folly.
Even with the apparent lack of respect to the entire MIAA this year (by the pollsters) I doubt there are very many coaches that would make Hope, Albion or Calvin their "dream" first round matchup. :)

Word has it that Nystrom is thinking about staying in Sweden next year. If true, that is too bad as he is a very athletic, pure scorer that maybe would have made up for his shortcomings on D.  Must be tough to be away from your family for this long of a period.

As Jon Bon Jovi would say, "No man is an island".

Or John Donne.  ::)

Didn't know the poet was a hard rock fan. ;)

Either way, A great movie

You know, those philosophers Simon and Garfunkel would disagree:

A winter's day
In a deep and dark December;
I am alone,
Gazing from my window to the streets below
On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

Great point!

Before this turns into another long drawn out bruhaha.......can everybody just chill with interpreting stuff.

That's the difficulty with language, especially written language.  It always has to be interpreted by someone else.  It's hard enough, at times, to understand what someone means when they are talking to you and you can hear their tone and see their facial expressions.  Now take away all sense of tone, meter, and expression and you have this.  I think the chilling out should be done with those who have been mis-interpreted.  If they calmly said that there is a misunderstanding and tried to re-state what they meant, there would be fewer "disagreements".

Stick with talking about your own teams and everybody will be just fine. :)

I am very anxious for the Calvin vs. Opponent game this Wednesday.  The opponent played very very tough against another MIAA team a few weeks ago and will probably be very charged up for this game. ;) ;D :D  (How many smiley faces are required to signify that I am "kidding, with no disrespect"?)

The move is a stiff-armed "clothesline" across the throat of the opposing player, and in no way seems "accidental."

Written, spoken, or delivered with smoke signals, there is only one interpretation of that statement.

And if that statement were made on its own, then you would be right.  It was, however, part of a longer post, so assessing that one statement alone is wrong.

[Your original quote uses the phrase "in no way seems "accidental."  I didn't interpret that statement as you being "careful to say it was not something done out of an intent to harm."

"You didn't interpret" - those are your words and they indicate the way you understood the meaning of the post.  Surely you don't think your way to intepret is the only way?

I'm sure it's not an accident.  I'm also sure John has no ill intentions in mind.  Maybe it looks bad since John is usually the taller player.  I remember playing some hoops against a friend of mine, who was 4-6 inches taller than me.  My attempts to block his shots often ended up catching him in the face.

The move is similar to many other hooking moves done by offensive post players.  They are rarely called for fouls even though the should be.  The offensive players are simply taking what the officials give them.

Personally, I take a lot more offense with Veltema, who routinely throws elbows on the perimeter when he pivots.  Those look a lot more malicious than Mantel simply trying to get to the hoop.

"Veltema" and "malicious" in the same paragraph. That's a first. Over the last three years I can't tell you how many Calvin fans I've heard complain about how "soft" and "nice" this group of kids really is--all to the detriment of the team according to these complainers. Now that we know the baby Knights have learned to clothesline and throw elbows with abandon, I guess Calvin fans can stop their moaning.

Ohhhhh, al....let me help.  I do think he's putting his arm there intentionally (I do not think it just happened as a result of positioning to get the ball, etc.).  I do not think he is trying to hurt anyone, but to stop them.  I am concerned, however, that it may result in someone getting hurt.

I agree with scottiedawg that it probably is an issue of his height.  At the risk of further misinterpretation, I'll let it go.  I'm sorry this seems so complicated or evilly intended.  I guess I forgot what to expect.  Silly me.

The new mascot at Calvin should be named "Suge" Knight

He could always transfer to NPU, which is home away from home if you're a Swede. ;)

i hope a lot of fans comes out to the devoss to see hope last regular seasson home game to see the seniors  go out with a win  jesse zack andbosher there are great people let us salute them wed night and the jv that not lost a game in the league there last game wed night  then there seasson is all done  and  always go hope and dan coxx  he is going to graduate in 3 years  pretty smart kid

Careful with your phrasing there.  I'm sure you only mean to root for a Hope victory for the seniors, but it sounds an awful lot like you're assuming victory.  A bold assumption considering how the first Hope/Adrian game went this year!
