First off, I'd like to say it was great seeing Albion's number 1 fan at the game last night.  Fox 17 news anchor, Amy Turner.

Can you tell me a little more about this? Sorry if I'm retreading the obvious for the regulars here but this is not something I've seen talked about before.

She is the daughter of Coach Turner.  She attended almost every game of Albions' while her dad was the coach there.  She is a very vocal fan when she is in attendance!  And like someone already said, she is the anchor for the local news here in GR.

As mentioned already, Amy Turner is Mike Turner's daughter but she is no longer news anchor at Channel 17. She left the broadcast news business, I believe about a year ago, to take a job as Communications Director for Early Childhood Commission.

As an attorney who wishes he had been Ring Lardner, oldknight keeps close tabs on the local media biz.  Amy Turner certainly was a vocal fan, but I'm under the impression she has a sister who was even more demonstrative in the bleachers.
It was just a little weird watching the Calvin-Albion game last night with Coach T sitting eight rows up in the visitor's section.
Not that the officials didn't hear enough from both coaching boxes.

I say going 13-1 in the league-play against some competitive teams that I mentioned is quite an accomplishment.  I was really hoping these seniors, after winning an outright title their freshmen year, would get to do that at least one more time, and they did so, by winning their second title in four years.

Here's to finishing the year strong, Calvin!  Hopefully a lot of basketball left to be played!

GK68: 13-1 WOULD be quite an accomplishment, but there's another game to play this Saturday in Kalamazoo.

First off congrats to the calvin team...2nd before i go on a little rant there is not a team in the league that the albion players respect more then calvin now or for the last ten years (thats as far as i go back)Dear Calvin fans please be happy with the win... Crying about the officials and posting pictures of Albion players holding makes me want to vomet. I was there last night and was there  three weeks ago when calvin came in and shot 35 fts to albions 15 on albions home court. PLEASE STOP CRYING. You absolutely know when you are playing a KVS team it is going to be an absolute slug fest. I didnt hear anyone come in here crying about poor johnie boy when he shot 21 fts at Kresge.  PLEASE STOP THIS!!! Your team was the best team in the MIAA this year. Winnging an out right MIAA championship and going 4-0 against albion and hope is unreal.

Congrats to KVS see everyone in the tournament... Hopefully Tommie Brey is
reffing the semi finals so all the hope people can come cry about him too.

Rule britania I hope whoever you are you bring back the days of Greg Ashabi... this board needs some fresh air

No Crying!  I thought the picture was more of a compliment--that is what you get when you play Albion.  Be ready for a fight, holds, anyhting--it is going to be physical.  That is what Albion is known for.  If they get caught, too bad for them.  If they do not get caught, too bad for the opponent.

The picture was posted in reference to the physical style of defense Albion is known for, not the officiating.  I don't think anyone has anything but respect for Albion's style of play.

Ahh, the days of Ashabi -- the George Carlin of D3hoops.com!  Bless him, and bleep him.

As an attorney who wishes he had been Ring Lardner,

Not really. After having my respect for Albion's style of play totally misunderstood, I'd prefer not to suffer the indignities of an investigation by the House Un-MIAA Activities Committee.

I don't think that anyone was trying to complain that the officiating was bad against the Knights, or that the Britons had an advantage.  I think we were trying to say that it was bad all around and that none of the players, Knights and Britons, knew how the game was being called.  It was spotty at best for both teams.

The family is going to make a trip south for the weekend of Feb. 27-28 and am hoping to catch a couple games for the first visit to Van Noord Arena.  Does anyone know if tickets for Friday nights MIAA semi's will be reserved seating or are all tickets for semi's and finals on saturday general admission sit anywhere you want.

Thanks for any replies

I've been to one game at the new arena and so I'll give my experience.  It was a regular season game vs. Adrian and all the tickets in the upper deck are reserved seating - no general admission.  Not sure about the lower bowl where the students sit.

I had taken someone's advice and gotten my tickets ahead of time because I had been warned that the walk-up lines get really long in the new arena.  Instead of just giving you general admission tickets, they now ask you where you want to sit, look it up oin the computer, etc.etc.  Sure enough - when we got there, the walk-up ticket line was long.  Friends of ours who waited in line didn't get into the arena until 10 minutes into the first half.

My guess is that they will be reserved seats and I would advise not waiting until the walk-up ticket line right before the first game to get tickets.  Maybe try to get tickets earlier in the day on that Friday, either at the gym or maybe the FAC.

Stay posted.
