Some other observations

***Calvin really, very badly needs to get their student section organized.  The students should lift the team not the other way around.

***I actually enjoyed the tight, hot confines of the Fieldhouse, its everything D3 should be.  Don't get me wrong I love DeVos but its too comfortable.  I'm just going to guess most Hope fans were overdressed for this one, including myself. ;)

***Caleb Veldhouse------Sr. skills in a  Freshman body, KVS should be giddy with the thought of getting Caleb in the weight room.

***Has anyone seen Josh Meckes?  I seem to remember a jackrabbit of a player for the Knights, but I haven't seen him this year.

***This is one of the worst inside finishing teams from Hope in years.  I  am simply baffled at the number of bunnies this team misses.  Combine that with the globetrotter like shots of Cramer and Phillips (see early 1st half highlites) and its just down right frustrating.

***The coaching chess match at the end was a thing to see.

KVS--going with Smith and Veldhouse on the floor at the same time........gave Hope a tough matchup

GVW--using the foul to give with 10 to go on Caleb's first move for the game winner  Brilliant and not used enough in my opinion.

KVS--going against the coaching adage "play for the tie at home"  I too was surprised Veldhouse went for the win.......however booo to Hope for again not learning a thing from the first attempt.

........and finally

Hope lost this one in the last 10 minutes for the same reason they lost at Albion..........they spent too much time worrying about officials and not playing........they took themselves out of the game.

now I'm just sayin'..........if you look up Hope's two losing boxscores and scroll to the bottom you will notice 3 names that appear on both.  They are not players or coaches.

I'm just sayin'  ;D

Not to make any excuses for Hope because poor officiating or not, they should have won that game. But the call being refered to as the baseline call, which was actually a baseline no call was awful. I was sitting straight up from that baseline and Meckes was honestly, no exaggeration 3-4 feet out of bounds when he threw that ball back in. from there Calvin goes on to hit the GW 3. If the officials make the correct call there, Hope is pretty much handed the win. Oh well thats the breaks, Hope didn't hit when they needed to in the final minute. Hopefully we can get some help from the Brits and bring that conference tourney to Devos where it should be played anyways.

There's something fishy about those stats. They show Veldhouse and Meckes with 19 minutes of PT and Snoeyink with only 13. That isn't right is it?

No the stats are incorrect.  Pearcy did not play.

Oops, forgot to post the stats if anyone is interested.

Well considering Tyler Zoerhoff's hard luck with foul trouble I have serious doubts he saw 23 minutes of action.

I also have serious doubts on the accuracy of the assists after watching Draayer take five droubles and the passer get credited with an assist by the p.a.

Why does this forum always come down to complaining about the refs?

IBoth teams commited a lot of turnovers in the game, it's just Calvin had fewer in the last 5 minutes.

Incorrect, Calvin only had 8 which might be the #1 reason they won this one compared to the game in Holland.

human nature, but I think I've dished out enough compliments to Calvin's steller play to more than cover any ill feelings I have for those 3.

like I said..........Calvin hits an 85 footer to win if Hope gets the ball there anyway.  Its just karma.

I've been wondering who those Technical Fouls, Attendance and Score by Periods guys are!

The turnover stats can't be right. The Knights had at least 8 TO's in the first half. I clearly remember DeVries having 2 of his passes stolen early in the game and the box shows he had 0 for the game. The more I look at the stat sheet the more worthless it appears to be.

wasn't picking on you sac

liked most of your commentary

Veldhouse rightly is getting praise for the GW shot, but Snoeyink also played a key role for Calvin tonight with 13 points and 8 boards -- and Draayer played some really serious defense this time around.
It really is about TEAM at Calvin, and I think that showed at the most critical moments in the big barn tonight.
Great, great coaching job by KVS to bring down a hugely talented foe.
I didn't believe Calvin's young team could do it, but I am delighted to have been dead wrong.

As a neutral observer, if there's a questionable play at the bitter end of a great game, it's better as a non-call.  I hate to see a great game come down to a call that the refs can't be certain of and the fans will never agree about.  I'd rather see the players decide it than the refs.

Now, many of you will recognize me as a Wooster fan, and some of you will immediately think back to last March in Kresge, but I'll say this: I wish the foul call at the end of Woo/Albion had not been made, and my feelings about that would not be different in the least if the roles had been reversed (i.e., foul on Alb. giving Woo a chance to win at the line).  It's just not how a great game should end IMHO.

Congratulations to Calvin on a great -- and in my view, completely non-tainted -- victory.

Why's that?

Didn't realize the TO numbers was that low, sac.  I guess I just figured it was high because so many times in the first half, Calvin was just not grabbing some of the rebounds and holding onto the ball without it getting knocked out by a Hope player.

GoKnights68

Don't know why those stats aren't right.  Maybe tomorrow they'll be the right ones.

It's just difficult to watch something like that happen to your team. Every single Knight fan here would be doing the same thing if the situation had been reversed.

But you are right, it came down to the players and they were the ones that finished it.

It's also hard to watch a Calvin freshman school a Hope (5th yr.) Senior to hit the game-winning shot.

Did anyone catch the interview with KVS after the game? I was suprised with his comments, and I want to see if anyone else on here noticed them...
